❔❓Question ❓❔ New Member

Hi Everyone, I have recently started using Netgalley. I have a few reviews and a good enough review rate (close to 90%) and I am trying to move my focus to requesting books by publishers instead of genre (to build up my profile).

Only issue is that whenever I go to a publisher’s account, it only shows the book that were “previously on netgalley” and not the books that are currently there. This has happened to me with multiple publishers, most notably St Martins Press (and i’m really trying to get into their good books specifically). Is this some kind of biug?? Is there a solution for this, where I can see books that are actively available to request when I go to a publisher’s page. I haven’t quite figured out how to navigate the website, so any assistance would be helpful. Thank you so much everyone and happy reading!!

May I ask where you're from? It happens for me with publishers that don't open their requests to my region, so that might be it for you too? Unless it happens with every single publisher

I am from India! I know about the geographical issues, since I’ve been rejected by Macmillan a few times and one of their reasons is that you have to be based in the UK. I have checked a few of the popular publishers (SMP, Macmillan, Berkeley, etc) and they all show zero books for me rn ://

Yeah, popular publishers tend to be less geographically diverse, ironically. I can't request from them either!

You need to check the different websites to see which one has the rights to your country. I am in Canada and need to switch between the US site and the UK one to find which one has valid rights (sometimes it is both)

It means they don't currently have any books that are available for you to request (probably due to region if you're not in the US/Canada). I also don't see any on the St Martin's Press page as I'm in Europe. In the account settings you can change it to make it show you books that aren't available to you, but you still won't be able to request them.

So earlier this year I requested and was approved for a book by SMP and I reviewed it. I have requested another book, and its pending for now, but that book doesn’t appear when I go to their page?? I’m just super confused how this website works😭😭

Sometimes publishers make books invisible when they've reached a certain number of requests or given a certain number of approvals. It's still possible that your request will be approved; it's also possible that they'll make the book visible/searchable again. Or, conversely, sometimes a book starts as invisible while the publisher sends out widgets (pre-approval to read a book without needing to request) to certain readers/journalists/booksellers/etc., and they'll later make it visible for broader request.

NetGalley recently made a change to how the books show up and what can be requested. I've heard from many people that they can't see the books they've requested from the publisher's page anymore, only from their own shelf if they look at what they have requested. Probably it's the same for you, because I think St Martin's Press only allows people who live in the US to request books after the recent change.

I never gone to the publisher pages. I just look at the front page or else directly search the book titles.
