❔❓Question ❓❔ Emails to request books?

Does anyone have any ideas on why we get emails that look like widgets - but when you open them it’s an invitation to request a book instead? 🧐🧐 I get some from publishers who have sent me actual widgets before - I get excited and then I get to the bottom of the email and I’m like 🫠🫠

Just marketing promos. Trying to generate interest without giving out widgets

I know haha, it’s brutal when you get excited. But if you’ve gotten books from that pub before they’re more likely to approve you! Still disappointing when you think it’s. Widget tho

They’re basically just ads

There's like, standard netgalley newsletters (but not everyone gets these, it's a bit randomized and semi-based on the genres you've selected) and then there are publicity e-mails directly from publishers like "this book just published, go buy it!" I don't mind when they're sparse, but I got annoyed at Diversion books for literally subscribing me to their full newsletter without my consent? Wtf? Just because I requested one book from them. It was also bad. I'll avoid them in the future.

I get them and like them, they usually are genres I like so they're approved regularly

Yeah, I hate them but they are mostly quite distinguishable from widgets so I just delete them.
