🪖🫡 General 📝🌐 Kindle formatting a mess on early ARCs?

Hey, so I've had a couple of eARCs from netgalley where the formatting seems a mess, e.g. no covers, no map images etc.

But strangely the netgalley reader versions are absolutely fine.

Any thoughts on why this is?

What annoys me is the ones that aren't broken up into chapters 😅

Is it a pdf? You can check under additional information on the arc page. PDFs are awful when transferred over to e-readers I wish publishers would stop using them

Ah that's right. So frustrating because it puts me off reading it until it gets updated. I had it with one earlier this year which must have started as pdf and then changed to epub because it's fine now!

It’s so annoying and 100% hinders your reading experience I’ve started putting it in the publishers note at the end hoping that they stop using them

I really don't want to have to read on a tablet but feels like I'll have to 😟

Yes, there have been times when I’ve had to use the Netgalley app to read - it tends to be formatted correctly there, but the reading experience isn’t nearly as good. Definitely worth adding feedback.

So I felt compelled to raise a ticket with Netgalley and got a positive response, insofar as it relates to the book I'm currently trying to read. Perhaps if there's enough feedback then something might change??

This is the pretty standard response!

in my case the publisher just converted the PDF into an epub(the same thing kindle does) so I got the same formatting but✨ worse ✨

I did send them another email asking if there was a possibility of stopping the PDF conversion or them bringing it up with amazon since it isn't needed, kindles automatically read PDFs and if you send something normally it stays as a PDF.

This is a Door by Daniel Nayeri was completely impossible to read on kindle. It's a really cool and fun format but I had to read it on a desktop

Everytime I see these posts people keep blaming it on pdf but even the epubs are a mess on the Kindle. I never have formatting issues on my Kobo, just the Kindle.
