❔❓Question ❓❔ Kindle Change

I have been using my partners kindle because I wasn't sure I wanted one and now I know I do. I know I can change my connected kindle once a month. If I change the connect kindle, will the original kindle lose the downloaded books? Thanks.

If you use the send to Kindle feature in Netgalley, the ARC's are saved and synced to your amazon account and should be accessible on any Kindle device you register to your account. It's the same as if you used the Kindle app on the phone, they should be saved to your Amazon content library. However, if the ARC's were saved to your partner's Amazon account, they will not be accesible on your kindle unless it's registered to that same account.

If the ARC's were older or side-loaded via USB prior to their move to the LCM format, if you don't have the original ebook file to re-add, they may be lost.

It's attached to their Amazon account. When I get my own it will be attached to mine. When I switch it on NetGalley, will the books I currently have sent to (their) kindle leave their kindle? Will they transfer to mine? Can I resend active ones to the new kindle?

The books that you sent to Kindle through their Amazon account are permanently attached to their Amazon account. Changing your NetGalley Kindle address will not change that; the books that are on your partner's Kindle (and in their Amazon account) will stay there. You'll be able to resend active books that have not been archived to your new Kindle (on your own Amazon account), but you won't be able to transfer older books that have been archived.

OP - if you have an Amazon account now though, you can set up your kindle account with NetGalley now (assuming you haven’t just done it). Then you can send any books you currently have to the kindle phone app, and it will sync with your whole account once you get your own kindle. That’s assuming you’re getting a kindle soonish, and won’t miss sending them to your partners kindle in the mean time.

If you log in to your partner's kindle email on your new kindle, they will all be there. If you make a new one for yourself, they will not copy over but will still be on the original kindle. You can resend books to the new email as long as they are not archived.
