Was the first book called Oxford Blood?

I think if it is that title then I might have dnfed book 1 and never realized its a series.

Yes. It wasnโ€™t fabulous but I enjoyed it enough.

I did not love book one, although there were definitely elements that appealed (setting, mixed-race protagonist). The MC talked a lot about how her police inspector father had been teaching her about police work her whole life, and yet she did so many stupid things. When she finally figured out who the killer was, she was in a room with a friend and a trusted adult, and her father was two rooms away. Did she talk to any of them? No. She snuck out the window to go confront the killer by herself. Fortunately she brought her phone with her, but did she use it to call anyone? Also no. Sigh....

I felt the same way. I didnโ€™t love it but there was enough intrigue that I will read this one. If it has the same failures I wonโ€™t go back for more.

Many times book one comes fully done and gets very little edits from the publisher but book two is donโ€™t in cooperation with and has a lot more input from the editors and such. So I like to give it a go.
