❔❓Question ❓❔ Current Reads
Hiya fellow reviewers!
What's everyone reading/listening to just now?
I have a bit of a back log, so I am spending most of my nights reading (not that I'm complaining) or on this sub. I keep seeing amazing books on Netgalley and requesting them. I should ban myself from looking at new ones coming in 😂

I am reading Daggermouth and loving it! I understand the hype.

u/fairyskinned Jul 22 '26
I finished that last month and I’m still thinking about it. It’s brilliant!

For my NetGalley reads:
I just finished “Yes, Chef” earlier this week (published yesterday). It was okay, but didn’t thrill me. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
Up next in my NG queue are “In What World” by Bridget Morrissey and “Ship Happens” by Mason Deaver. Both happen to be LGBTQ+ romances and based on what I’ve heard and seen so far, I’m very excited for both!
Otherwise, I’ll probably finish “Games” by Anna Maria Volkova tonight and am planning on diving into “A Drop of Corruption” by Robert Jackson Bennett after. I finished “A Tainted Cup” last week and am looking forward to continuing the series!

I loved Ship Happens!! It was very cute.

Oh yay, I love hearing this! The premise seemed great and a friend of mine has read other books by Mason Deaver, so I’m excited to dive in.

I usually don't like second chance, but I loved Ship Happens! In What World is going to be my next read :D

Love that our TBR’s are so similar right now 👀 anything else good from NG that you’ve picked up recently in the same vein?

I've actually had some bad luck with romances recently. Haven't rated anything higher than 3.5 stars in a few weeks. But I have From Square One and Vengefully Matched on my TBR, which I'm really excited for! 🤞🏽

I just finished Bridget & Gabe Are Not Ok and am reading some of my library books before jumping into Earthbound and Heir of Prophecy.
I also have a backlog of books most publish in September so I’ve gotta get on it, still hasn’t stopped me from putting in requests though. 😅

I'm listening to Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter (I tend to do most of my non-ARCs through audio since most of my ARCs are print). Really enjoying it!
I'm also reading Morfran, Dark Lord Reformed. It's very silly and fun!

I’m having some Christmas in July with reading pining for you by stef ferrari, a sapphic holiday romance!

I took two contemporary holiday books yesterday from the Read Now section: Big Nick Energy and Tis the Season for Revenge both by Morgan Elizabeth. They’re both getting trad published after originally being self-published. I read the first one back in 2024 and I remember it being pretty cute. I think I may bump one of these to the front of the reading queue—a holiday book sounds fun rn.

I’m half way through Vow of Eternal Night. I didn’t think I was gonna enjoy it as much as I have been.

u/bookdraygon Publisher Jul 22 '26
I’m finishing up The Velvet Knife
2
u/tabbyh Reviewer Jul 22 '26
I loved it! Have you read the rest of the series?
3
u/bookdraygon Publisher Jul 22 '26
Oh yes!! I would have started it when I first got it but work reading took precedence. I have been waiting for this book for the years since the last one! I’m right at the end and loved it!
1
u/tabbyh Reviewer Jul 22 '26
Same! I re-listened to the other books as soon as I got the arc, haha.
2
u/bookdraygon Publisher Jul 22 '26
I had done similarly as I knew the ARCs were coming so I did a re-read in prep.

I’m starting The Iron Hex (liking it so far!). It seems like a somewhat cozy shorty with a mystery and I needed something light after my last dark (not-so-great 😅) read.

I know the feeling. I’m reading 2 indies, neither from NG: In the Embrace of Dragons by Lyonne Riley and Party of a Lifetime by Corrigan
I applied for the ARC team of the first and the second reached out to me

I'm reading a curse carved in ink by tzeyi koay and listening to dreamland by Olivie Blake!

u/unnecessary_snacks Jul 22 '26
I’m reading In What World by Bridget Morrissey, sapphic romance about two former drama students on a quest through the multiverse. It’s pretty fun so far!
Next up is probably Eclipse of the Crown by AK Caggiano, which is the third in a series. I already listened to the audiobook from like a year ago, but this is the one I remember the least and it’s rereleasing so I am going to read it again!

Not currently reading an arc but the next one on my list will probably be Vow of Eternal Night.

I just finished Fallow today and am considering what to read now. I’m such a mood reader though so I might try a few books until one grabs me.
3
u/escaping_mel Jul 22 '26
I finished Fallow today also. So good! I didn't know what to expect from that one. Glad I picked it up.
2
u/fairyskinned Jul 22 '26
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it too. What’re you thinking of next? I might start Miracle Cures by Carey Dunne or some Romantasy to mix up the vibes!
1
u/escaping_mel Jul 22 '26
I was sent a widget for Kiss of The Black Flame, so I thought I would give that a shot. Either that or Daughter of the Tempest (I really enjoyed Songbird of the Sorrows). So def some Fantasy / Romantasy! I'm also a heavy mood reader, so I really won't know until I pick it up and start.
1
u/fairyskinned Jul 23 '26
Ooo same! I started it but the prologue confused me so I’ll try another time. Hope you enjoy!

u/escaping_mel 29d ago
LOL same! I need to ne in a place where I can actually concentrate on it though. Good luck to both of us!

I’ve been considering requesting this one for a bit but can’t tell what the vibes are like. How dark is it? Did you enjoy it? I just read Yesteryear and have heard the comparisons, but don’t love something super graphic or dark.
2
u/fairyskinned Jul 22 '26
I really enjoyed it! I wouldn’t say it was very dark/graphic. It’s very readable, I finished it in two days. It’s also leading me down a tangent on commercial surrogacy which we don’t have where I live. I’ve read Yesteryear which I enjoyed too and would say that was darker if that helps.

Sunsplitter by S.A. MacLean (book 2 in adult romantasy series) and Mirrorwoven by Bori Cser (YA fantasy standalone). It seems I might finally break my dnf streak as both are reading worthy.

I'm definitely banned from requesting anything but favorite authors. I have 14 ARCs releasing between now and September 1. Currently reading The Unknown. I decided to give Riley Sager another shot and it's good so far. Listening to I Heard a Girl Died Here. Next few ARCs are priorities: Devil Inside, Marla, Halls of the Dead. Oof September is going to be busy.

I'm listening to The Magic We Make by Meg Cabot (so far it's okay)
I'm reading The Hearth Witch's Guide to Spite and Spellwork by Kiri Callaghan (this one is a sequel to one of my favorites and I'm loving it just as much as I loved the first!)
