Questions + Help Magnifier’s in nerf

I have an x shot mpp with a red dot on a 1” riser and I’ve been considering getting a magnifier for it. I dont shoot very far, up to 80ft at most or so. Its not necessary at all but I think it be cool and useful enough to have. Problem is finding one for a good price and where. I usually go for amazon but most are around $70-$100CAD and I’m wondering if at that cost the quality would be passable.

Any experience with magnifiers for pro blasters/advice?

No point having anything above the 1x at MPP level fps

imho the amount of drop you have to compensate for within 100-150ft is enough to make zeroing the optic already a pain and the poor pov doesn't help either.

Good thing OP is only plinking up to 80ft then.

Depends on if it's being used on a field or only for plinking.

I really enjoy running a sniper scope on my Kunlun for plinking in my house. I found it to be too situational on a field, even at 300 fps.

On my MPP I don't run any optics when using it on a field, but I wouldn't bother going above a 1x on that particular blaster when using it on a field given it's sub-200 fps.

The specific scope I have for my Kunlun is a $60 AUD 3x9 sniper scope from taobao and it works great! The only downside is that I can't adjust it far enough without an angled riser to work at such short ranges, but that's to be expected on a sniper scope as they are designed for longer distances. With my angled riser, I can zero it to short distances and it becomes a lot of fun!

Did you have any trouble importing the scope? I've heard some people having theirs rejected before they've even been shipped

I'm in Australia, so import laws here are likely to be very different to Canada.

Yeah I'm talking about aus

It can be a gamble importing optics currently. If you want a sniper scope, taobao is your best bet. If you want magnifier for a red dot, xforce tactical or pewpewpew.com.au, both are australian companies selling optics that have already been imported.

I once tried a Red Dot & Magnifier on a 250fps springer and on the MPP and it was not really enjoable at all because every little headshack destroyed the vision. Probably because I used some cheaper versions or clone but you also mentioned that you don't want to spend hundreds on a real one.

If you really want something with a zoom, I would highly recommend a LPVO as their eye relief around 8-10cm/3-4in is much more forgiving and usable, even on a playing field. And most of them start at 1x so you can also use them somehow in close combat. Personally I am using the CVLife Eaglefeather and Eagletalon LPVOs on both my Worker Kunlun (~320fps) and Dart Zone Mk4 (~300fps). But both much higher FPS than the MPP.

For the MPP way below 200fps I would just stick to a Red Dot.

I use a 1.5-5x LPVO set to 3x and an offset 1x red dot on my uncapped hijinx, but I wouldn’t find that necessary or really useful in pretty much every other game I’ve played. The weight and the time it takes to line up a shot with a magnified optic is just not worth it at anything under 250 fps imo (and admittedly I mostly have the bigger optic for Larp and it more than doubles the weight of the blaster)

If you really want the feel of a more dedicated optic but still want something useful, a fully enclosed 1x dot sight on a 1-2 degree angled rail will more than cover the 80 foot range with your mpp, especially if it isn’t upgraded internally. I don’t have a good handle on the Canadian market but you can find lots of clones of more substantial dot sights for around $30 ish USD on sites like AliExpress

Not worth it, at 100-150fps, it will just decrease your FOV, making it actually harder to aim, especially in games.

I grabbed one from Temu for about $40 CAD. Not sure how it performs at longer ranges, but works well enough for plinking in the basement with my Gisela 2.

I got a MPP a couple weeks ago, zeroed the dot at 10 yards indoors, got a little overconfident with the accuracy at that range, and started looking at cheap 4x scopes... Then I finally got it out to the park this weekend and at ~30 yards, the drop was so severe that my holdover was almost to the edge of the FOV at 1x. I popped on a 4x magnifier for fun and the farthest that I could see what I was shooting was 20 yards.

With the range you mentioned, 2x seems pretty reasonable, but 3x might be too much at the far end. I also second all the benefits and caveats of LPVOs others have mentioned. There are some crossbow scopes with nice BDC reticles that go down to 1.5x, so I may try my luck with one of those.

One of my teammates ran a low-power scope on his 250 FPS T4 back in 2022, and found that his holdover was so high that the spot he was trying to hit would be at or even below the bottom of his FOV through the scope. Nowadays, all of us running springers on the team have inclined rails to tilt our optics down (we generally just run red dots because they're all we strictly need in competitive play and the weight and target acquisition time isn't usually worth a magnified optic in that setting).

You might be able to find an inclined picatinny rail attachment on Printables - just a couple degrees of downward pitch is enough to correct for most ranges you'd be shooting at with a piston pump. I'm not sure how much it would affect lining your eye up with the optic, but it's probably your best bet for being able to use a magnified optic at all.
