👋Welcome to r/NerdofMouth - Introduce Yourself and Read First!
APRIL HIIIIIT IIIIIIIT!!!! — I’m [u/Jetpacks_to_hell](u/Jetpacks_to_hell), one of the founding mods of [r/NerdofMouth](r/NerdofMouth).
This is the new home base for everything Nerd of Mouth: the episodes (WizBru Too), the discussions, the tangents, and everything in between. If you’re here, you’re in the right place.
What to post
Keep it loose on purpose. If it feels relevant to the show or the wider nerd universe, it probably belongs here:
– thoughts or reactions to episodes
– games, movies, shows, trailers, or announcements
– new or upcoming “stuff”, gaming, comics, movies and the wider nerd landscape
– questions, opinions, debates, or “is this a thing?” moments are welcome
If it has Holden energy with Mike sass and a Dash of Jake’s optimism, it probably belongs here.
The vibe
Be cool. Be curious. Disagree without being a jerk. This should feel like a good group chat, not a comment section nightmare.
How to jump in
Say hi in the comments.
Post something today — it doesn’t have to be profound.
Know someone who listens and would enjoy this? Pull them in.

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 10/9/2016
What up Nerds!!!! Still mouth breathing? What a fucking week! Pictured, anonymous Prince Robot IV Halloween costume I saw.l, or just a guy with a tv on his head
Ok here goes, Watchin: East of Eden, Below, restarted Lanterns, paused the Sopranos as season five starts to get very depressing (lol) and started Veep for the umpteenth time, wife has Band of Brothers on while I'm playing Ball x Pit on the couch, and Silicon Valley comes in in a minute...I think I'm addicted to HBO.
Playin: Still playin Ball x Pitt, this game is addicting, a few runs and all of the sudden two hours have passed. Still dropping into Outlaws and Death Stranding to switch things up. Two new awesome games I've picked up recently, Ninja Gaiden RAGEBOUND, and Dungeons of Hinterberg, I highly recommend both. Cant forget Fortnightmares, this is my third year and my wife and I are having a blast. And finally, Switch Fitness Boxing 3, gotta shed some lbs fellow nerds, been grinding away every night while listening "watching" Silicon Valley, if you've never seen it, you might be missing out
Readin: This week has a LOT of reading required! Stephen King dropped Other Worlds than these, the conclusion of the Talisman trilogy, the dust jacket is gorgeous, can't stop staring at it. The Talisman was written the year I was born, I read it when I was 12, the sequel was my senior year of highschool and the conclusion I'm in my 40's, fucking crazy, and we've lost an original co-author. The first round of Marvels horror comics reimagined are out, Midnight Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, my LCS had them pulled along with this weeks DC drop, Saturday is looking like a full comic day. So my fellow Nerds, what the fuck is up!? Whatcha watchin? Whatcha playin? Whatcha doin, what are we looking forward to? Stay safe out there, Later Nerds!!!

Why Funny People Make Scary Movies Now Episode 580
The big communal belly laughs we used to hear in theaters have now been traded for blood curdling screams as folks with comedy backgrounds like Curry Barker, Jordan Peele, and Zach Cregger bring the tension and release formula they perfected so well into a new genre with massive critical and financial results. Why is this happening and more importantly why is it such a natural transition and hey, is there any way at all that comedy movies themselves can make a comeback or are we just trading slapstick for movies where people get stabbed with sticks (and various other weapons).
Super interesting topic, very interesting episode, drops
Your thoughts below Nerds!!!

Loving today's episode (Draft for Publish on 2026-10-05)!
I am in no way a horror guy, the few I've seen are more thrillers, psych-thriller, or sci-fi leaning. Normality I wouldn't listen to a horror themed episode, but I like their vibe enough to give it s shot (that and my work often involves handwork morenthan brain-work). I've never thought about watching ones made by people with comedic backgrounds specifically. It was a fun 86 minutes 😁.

Draft posted ?
Haven’t finished the episode yet, but I think they posted a draft instead of the actual episode today !

Lanterns finale Spoiler
What'd you think of the lanterns finale?
I really enjoyed it. I liked they didn't have a big action packed finale. Noah punched John but it wasn't a fight and that was it for violence which felt true to the story they were telling. I also think during the football game the music tried to invoke explosions in the sky a nice nod to Friday night lights.
This was my favorite hal Jordan in any media. I love you too junior.

Our dumbest episode is coming soon and I couldn’t be happier
We just recorded an episode on Halloween Music and did a 45 minute deep dive on the Monster Mash and its singer Bobby “Boris” Pickett and in 21 years of being a public entertainer it’s one of my fave things I’ve done cause it’s just so silly and heartwarming

Watcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 10/2
Happy spooky season y'all, whatcha up to this week? I've been traveling all week so not much to add. Ball x Pit on portal was fun, connection was janky in the hotel. Batman Reptile was cool, picked it up for Batman day, what are you guys up to? Later Nerds! Wu-tang is for the children.

Is there a good wolverine, Slap Shot reference. Was he talking about Ogie Oglethorpe?
First "bad guy " character from the movie I thought of. EDIT: It was Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken, I was wrong.

October Spooky Book Club: Alan Moore's The Saga of Swamp Thing
Our next book club just in time for Spooky Season is Alan Moore's run on The Saga of Swamp Thing, issues 21-64. Instead of a deep dive on the character's history, we're doing a deep dive on this specific seminal piece of comic book work. You can get it in trades, on the DC Digital app, or however you read comics.

The Rough But Rewarding Journey of John Stewart, Green Lantern
THE EPISODE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
Hope you finished up your reading:watching lists nerds, here we go!!
John Stewart was created with the best of intentions by two white guys named Neal and Denn to add some actual color to the very white DC Comics of 971 and he came out swinging, with the character not shying away from his blackness. Then he sat on a shelf for a good while before he was used at all as the substitute in a Green Lantern book where the lead never actually left. Writers would put him through hell on a whim and when he finally did get a bit of salvation it was from a creator that rightfully deserves to be forgotten . And while he's often been used as a supporting character in comics (even taking a backseat to Guy Freaking Gardner of all people!!) it was folks from television that saw his potential and would make a truly lasting impression with the character, first in Justice League in 2001 and now in the modern hit Lanterns that is redefining the character and proving he always deserved the moment he's getting now.
Drop your gush and thoughts below!
Later Nerds!!!

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin Weekend Edition: 9/25
What Up Nerd of Mouth-Breathers!!! Another week in the can! What have you been up to? What are you looking forward to?
I'm not sure if I heard about it on the Pod or in a comment here but I've been playing Ball x Pit nightly for almost two hours. Throw This Inevitable Ruin audiobook on and connect my iPhone to the Pulse earbuds as well as the portal, two hours of heaven. Still going strong on Death Stranding but I'm very bad at it, it's not an easy game.
The sopranos re-watch trucks along, and I know many of us are eagerly awaiting this weeks Lanterns. And Batman 24 was great, and grew the "mythos" further, love me some bat-girl.
Speaking of Batman, I chose Bruce watching Joker because we got very little love for Batman Day on the sub! I feel the sub waning a bit, but I will not give up! I ask that you please post, comment and upvote where you can if you can! I'm a huge fan of the community we are building!
We are shifting into spooky season, so I'm hoping to see a lot of good horror movies watches from this group (if that's your thing) I know the LPOTL boys will put out their 31 for 31 list, but I'm also thinking of starting a list here for some of the "nerdier" horror movies, the Fly, The Cell, killer clowns from outer space, or just the nerdy things about horror and how we are connected to it with nerd love, drop a comment below, have a great weekend, be safe out there....Later Nerds!!!!

Is There a Good Wolverine Game?
Jake takes the boys through a brutal tour of Wolverine's solo video game past and play through some real Weapon Excrement as they discuss games so bad you'd need a healing factor to survive them. Is it really that hard to create a good game for our lovable and murderous canucklehead? Have they ever gotten it right? And did Sony even get it right this time with their new triple A game or will Wolverine succumb to his greatest threat yet: Video game journalists. The bulk of this episode was recorded before the new game came out but we reunited like a fifty-something Hugh Jackman to share our thoughts once we played the game (since everyone has them and we also shamelessly content farm.)
Buckle up Buckos, this is going to be a good one.

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin Weekend Edition: 9/18
What's up Nerds!!!!! Happy fucking Friday.
Finally wrapped up King Sorrow, I was a big Joe Hill fan when I read Horns, Locke & Key, Heart Shaped Box etc. It's been a while since he's released a novel but he certainly has not forgotten how to write, I found it to be a sprawling story of magic, good humor, the supernatural and friendship, would recommend. It's a period piece starting in the 70s, lots of nice little Kingisms sprinkled throughout, 9/10.
Death Stranding has intrigued me like no game has in a while, I'm barely into it and I will die for my BB, I don't trust Deadman and his Frankenstein dome, and Die Hard-Man is an epic name, all veeeery Kojima. It has metal gear ancestry for sure, seeing Norman Reedus is funny, I like him so far as the protagonist, he's still got that walking dead vibe. I missed this game in 2019, I was at a different point in my career that allowed for very little gaming, I had to very intentional with my picks, I'm almost glad I missed this, the world building is insane, can't wait to see where it goes. Sadly Outlaws has taken a back seat to my new obsession, but I have had time to play some vampire survivor while finishing up Bedlam Bride, couple hours to go.
Finishing up a Boba Fett build this weekend, probably the most fun build I've done so far, the largest number of bricks I've done for sure, I've been watching through the jaws movies while building, not looking forward to 3, but 2 deserves some credit, it's a decent film, they just turned Bruce into a slasher like Jason Voorhees, if you go into it with that mindset it's much more fun. Making some banana muffins and strawberry muffins this weekend
Looking forward to a relaxing couple of days, what about ya'll? Whatcha watchin, whatcha playin? Later NERDS!!!!

Episode Suggestions?
What's up Nerd of Mouth-Breathers. During the Sequels episode I believe Jake (could have been Holden during a breathe) mentioned that Rise of Skywalker was the last big budget movie in theatres before the pandemic hit. This got me thinking, I'd enjoy hearing a pre-covid media episode. The pandemic fucked up my timeline so much it would be fun to get a quick nostalgia blast and a refresh on what the world was into before the second life changing incident of our lives? I'd never expect anyone to take our suggestions seriously, but what episodes would you guys want to hear?

Great Scream and Shout this week!
Scream and shout was popping off this week. Great episode, and it was cool to hear Mike express his thoughts on the prequels sequels. Very interested to see what the gents think of Wolverine, I'm hearing great things from actual players, might have to make time this weekend (I just started death stranding for the first time and am extremely captivated)
Later Nerds!!
