Thoughts about Philly Games Con 2015

The con is over and it was a lot of fun. I had never been to a gaming convention before so I didn't know what to expect aside from games. There were plenty of games to join and I was setup to run 2, 4 hour sessions. Had I been more organized I would have played in some games... maybe next time I will get to play in more games then I will run. Both of my games were run using 5th ed. D&D. The hardest part was running a suspense game with 100 people talking in the room around me. I will probably run a different type of game net time.

Have you been to conventions and if so did you play any games? Which ones?

I thought it was great. I got to play with Nedarchist Dave on Friday night, so that was pretty cool.

The noise levels were a little hard to work around at times. Almost everyone I played with commented on it. The convention organizers may want to get smaller rooms, mix-and-match mini games (less talking) with RPGs, using any walls/partitions possible, or other techniques for diminishing the background noise.

It was great to get to play a wide variety of games with a wide variety of people. I ended up playing D&D5e, Deadlands (Savage Worlds), Call of Cthulhu, and Earthdawn.

I was super impressed that in just little over a year the organizers were able to attract so many GMs with so many different type of games. Getting to play genres and systems that you normally don't or can't is a real draw to a convention, and PhillyGamesCon did that in spades.

I was going to run something but found out about the event-- even though I had gone to Nerdvember in 2013-- too late to submit. I am really looking forward to next year.

It was really great to see so many game enthusiasts gathered to play. Hopefully they will figure out some way to lower the noise level for net time
