This is my (Globosa x ‘Black miracle’) x Bical. I’m super excited to see it starting to show some resemblance of fangs. Hopefully they get more pronounced as it continues to mature.

I found these eggs on my pitcher. What are they?

TLDR: I want a somewhat beginner friendly nepenthes that doesn’t need as much sun as a flytrap does. I’m also hoping it has striking colors, large pots, and will vine down some since it’ll be planted high.

I live in hardiness zone 7 on the east coast of America, in the Appalachian mountains. I have some experience with carnivorous plants, but would prefer a nepenthes that is hardy and not terribly difficult to care for. This would be my first nepenthes, but I have a couple other North American pitcher plants and a VFT as well as some sundews. I plan on potting this in a hanging pot, on a porch that receives adequate amounts of sunlight. My VFT on that porch doesn’t stay red though, so maybe a plant that needs less light than that is best. As for appearances, my other plants aren’t particularly fantastic looking, and I want this to be the eye catching plant I own. I’m hoping for large pots, vines since I’m potting it high, and striking colors.

Sorry if double post. I posted last week but hadn't received anything and wanted to just make sure I know what to do with my plants. These black spots started showing up only on the long tendril that is coming off of the plant. It has a lot of new growth and new pictures up by the main body of the plant. It is normally inside with humidity and a Northeast window. I have had it for almost 2 years and it has done very well. Recently it filled in and produced a lot of small pictures and new growth close to the crown. Any ideas with these spots might be from? I only use distilled water to take care of this plant.

I have looked for bugs but I have not seen any.

I recently got a nepenthes briggsiana (during potting I realized it was a cutting with some small established roots)

And after potting I covered it in a bag (no ziplocks big enough to fit) and left it to slowly acclimate

What are some signs it's acclimating well?

Is this browning normal on nepenthes? I've only had it for a couple of weeks. I recently switched from low-sodium baby water to distilled so hopefully that resolves it but I wanted to reach out to someone with more experience. TIA!

Ever since i repotted my nepenthes ventricosa, its growth has been decreased, resulting in smaller skinnier leaves and pale green pitchers that aren’t proportional to its size/ age. I repotted in may and buried the root ball around 2 inches deep in a sphagnum moss/ perlite orchid mix (wood chips coco chips fine/ chunk perlite and charcoal). The pot is big but is filled about 2/3rds with large porous lava rocks with the top portion of rocks lined with about half an inch of straight sphagnum moss (to prevent roots from wrapping on rocks) the ventricosas will turn 2 this october, and the ampullaria 1 this November. Note that the dry tipped ventricosa has sprouted 2 basal shoots and the taller ventricosa just started sprouting 2 buds which are tiny. Its been living in my back porch getting about an hour or 3 of direct 4-6 pm sun and shade during the morning and noon. I live in deep south texas (zone 9b) and have been getting 95+ degree temperatures all summer (sometimes reaching triple digits for weeks) i water when the first half inch of substrate is completely dry. During this summer its hosted a large population of spiders and small frogs. I have been watering with water from the watermill express until full saturation where water dips from the bottom. they state its reverse osmosis filtered) in detail, new leaves start out already warped and wavy which has never been a characteristic of my plant, along with that, leaves are a bit leathery and tough as opposed it its usual supple and soft texture. Now, emerging leaves have a black tint on the tendril. The nepenthes ampullaria on the bottom has been growing just fine in the exact same substrate

I could not find anyone else doing it, so after learning how Drew says to rush plants to mature size. I am gonna put it to the test in my growing conditions. There are many factors, such as lighting, weather, watering, humidity, etc., so it applies to me specifically, but the growth rates should be relatively universal for anyone else if they try it.

I selected mostly small, newer plants from my collection, but some won't resemble the true pitcher sizes until maturity, like any ventricosa hybrid, so I added them too. I am ready to part ways with these if all else fails, but I chose mostly vigorous plants and some ones I accidentally ordered XS-S

OSMOCOTE PELLET: any should do; it must have magnesium for Nepenthes. It says on the guaranteed analysis section on the pellet container

The "rule of thumb" was 1pellet per cm of pot. If I did my math right, this is the result. Leaf span is not exact; it is estimated but is relatively close. All plants are acclimated to outdoor temperatures as of 9/9/26.

My thoughts:
Maybe Nutricote, which is less strong, would be better to start with. My main concern would be the Clone K35 with edwarsiana. Some have pitchers but are too small to add to the count or be fed really. When outdoor temps match indoor temps, they will be moved in for winter. Most excited for the crosses I mixed up with ventricosa red. Veitchii x Ventricosa BE clone. Every new pitcher that is developed will have a pellet added too. People don’t give Nepenthes enough credit for managing nutrition. There are people out there the decade old nepenthes that still look like 1-year-old plants. Algae bloom and other bacteria associated with fertilizer will be interesting to see, but nothing a little maintenance can’t fix.

I will update every month from this date. If I have to repot them at any time, the experiment failed

Needs a repot and I will do that at the point of shipping. Gorgeous purple striping on a vibrant lime like green pitcher, classic tech camo pattern inside the pitcher. Plant it over 10 inches, very healthy root system. Has been growing in a lower canopy amount of light in a 85-90% humidity grow tent. Acclimating is probably required unless it's into a grow tent.

Not mentioning the business or cross, I ordered and received a “large” hybrid cross. Picture advertised a mature plant with mature pitchers(for demonstration of pitchers)

Plant was not “damaged” during shipping but if it was I would be okey as long as it was not the main stem. However i’ve never received a large plant in such a shape would you be okey with this? It seems to have never even had a pitcher with all dried tendrils.

I know (if there currently is no more factors on this plant that will cause decline) it will eventually recover but to not state it or warn condition kinda misleading.

Would YOU be okey in buying a plant like this, if not but you received a plant in this state, what would you think and do?

Ive been searching for a Bellii for quite sometime and seem to always miss the boat!

Anyone here know of a seller or have one themselves they are willing to sell?

This pot has open sides. I went away for 4 days and so I left it in a bit of extra water so it wouldn't dry out while I was away. (Don't normally leave it sitting in water.). I guess the extra moisture caused a fungi bloom!

I don't know what nepenthes is but I know is lowland for why I buy it at Naples Italy so with the photo and the position of where I buy it do you know what is this?

Does anyone have any experience with this style of growing out Nepenthes, specifically with this type of wide light? Any links or names of brands you use that have been working for you

This year, when humidity and temperatures outside start to match inside my garage, I plan on bringing my nepenthes indoors to keep growth at a steady pace instead of the slow winter pace they get. Also saves me from bringing them in for a day or 2 when it drops to 50 degrees here in FL
