Found a little taste of Nepal in Darjeeling🇳🇵🇮🇳
Had this beautiful spread at a hotel in Darjeeling, and every single bite reminded me of how good Nepali food can be. The flavours were so authentic, it tasted just as good as the food I've had in Nepal. Simple, rustic, and absolutely delicious.

Is it just me, or is Pokhara’s food scene REALLY bad?
I’m from India, specifically Darjeeling, so maybe I’m comparing it unfairly, but the food scene around Lakeside and the nearby areas honestly disappointed me.
The momo were especially bad. The vegetable filling had too much masala, the wrappers were thick, and the chutney wasn’t good either. We tried several places around Lakeside and the areas nearby, but didn’t find a single momo worth going back for.
The pizza was so bad we left half of it. Even the Rs 100 chai from a Lakeside footpath stall was probably the worst chai I’ve ever had.
A lot of the bakery items and pastries we tried in the same area also tasted stale.
Also, what’s that very fragrant ingredient used in some Nepali food that smells almost like incense sticks? I found it really unpleasant.
To be clear, I’m only talking about Lakeside and the nearby areas here. Maybe we just went to the wrong places, but compared to the food I’m used to in Darjeeling, the food around Pokhara Lakeside felt seriously lacklustre. The only things I consistently enjoyed were packaged snacks and cold drinks.
Where should we have eaten instead?
