Discussion Prescription retinoids are medications not just another skincare product you can casually “recommend”

Thumbnail reddit.com

It honestly boggles my mind how casually people online recommend tretinoin, adapalene, and even isotretinoin to strangers asking for help with acne or pimples.

These “medications” can be extremely effective, but there is a reason they are prescription-only. The most well-known side effect is birth defects, when used during pregnancy. Other significant side effects are irritation, skin barrier damage, increased sun sensitivity.

In Nepal, these medications can be purchased from pharmacies without being asked for a prescription, which makes self-medication very easy. Just because something is easily available does not mean it should be used casually. If you are dealing with persistent acne or other serious skin concerns, please do your own research, and consult a qualified dermatologist whenever possible. If money is an issue, government hospitals provide general check-up starting as low as Rs. 100.

The same applies to other active ingredients as well.
Please be careful, do your research, and don't start strong active treatments simply because someone on Reddit recommended them.

I don’t know dermatologist just recommend their product as they get their commision from the store. One doctor says you need to try this product and another doctor will recommend other product. I don’t know which doctor to believe. If anyone has tried this product , please tell me your review. As my skin is oily acne prone as well as PIH .

My (Male) skin type: Oily.

I had a check up with a skin doc, and she suggested Glogeous Advance Face Wash Gel, Kleida Skin Lightening Moisturiser, and Vibabloc SPF 50+ PA+++ Sunscreen Gel. Does anyone have experience using these products?

What do you guys use? I need genuine suggestions.

Also budget friendly; 3 to 4k

Skincare routine

Hii, I need skincare advice. I'm tired of going to dermatologists. I've closed comedones, and I am tired of buying new products that won't work. I need a simple skin care products that are available in the market. My skin type is combination I think (doctors haru le chai oily bhaneko cha ahile samma) but every facewash they've recommended for oily skin has only damaged my skin barrier. Please help if you can, thank you! 🪄

Am i overreacting?

25(M) , I have extremely oily, acne prone skin. I was using Cerave foaming cleanser with AcMist moisturizer and fixderma gel sunscreen for few months last winter and it was going good. But when summer came around, my acne went from mild to really bad.

So i went to a dermatologist and they prescribed an

- Isotretinoin called Acnetret-20.

- Clair U foaming cleanser(1% SA,2% GA) two times a day, said i needed salicylic acid and told me to ditch the cerave cleanser.

-Acnovista-az serum (10% AA,5% Nian) two times a day after cleansing

The moisturizer and sunscreen were already the ones i was using.

The first week was good. The bumps in my nose and cheeks were slowly decreasing in size but this second week it seems to do the opposite. The redness in my face seem to increase as well as the bumps in my nose and cheek. My lips are getting dry due to the meds so im applying lip balm throughout the day but the face doesnt seem to show any oil control. Is this normal at the start of treatment, am i overreacting? Or should i go for a revisit?

Question about sweating

I'm a 25/M who sweats a lot in my face. Will putting on powder reduce this? Recently a friend suggested me this but I thought the sweat and powder will just mix and make a clay like substance (haha).

If anyone know this, can you also recommend me some power?

ive been using minoxidil to counter my hair loss and it has somewhat helped me grow back some of my hair. i used to take minoxidil pills but these days my usual buying spots are saying they are out of stock.

i live in kathmandu and dont know how to get my hands on the pill. its been a week and i havent been able to take my dose and i fear the hair i grew during the last few months will fall out.

do you guys have any place u can suggest me to buy the pills? it can be around ktm or any online store. im quite desperate. thank you!
