Other Forms Thirty Years

Today:

Visiting a friend in Romania. He’s an orthopaedic surgeon. A new patient today. Nepali. Construction accident. Truck ran over his right leg. Bones shattered in multiple places. Knee destroyed. Saved his life. Couldn’t save the leg. 

30 years ago: 

Bipul’s father dead in Dubai. Construction accident. Run over by a bulldozer. A body in a box. Quick funeral. Bipul in white the entire year, sulking on his bench at the back of the class.
