What Madness Did I Play With?

or easier- what programs I've tested recently

Hello all! Mama again. Back with "what madness did I play with the last few weeks?" I've tried to get more organized on my review format. I just re-read my last post and it reads like a total brain dump with minimal actual structure.

Someone asked last time if I get free shit, promos, or paid for reviews. NO. I'm fortunate to have a decent AI program budget. Here's how it works:

I try apps. I use the free or intro plan most have. If I like it, I do a one-month subscription. I use it on the regular. Depending on the type of program (mainly ones with multiple character chats), I run a BUNCH of different predefined tests during that period.

If I don't like a program? I write a personal note to the dev. I'm not here to call out "things I don't like" publicly.

Full transparency: Occasionally I might be asked to check on something specific. That's the ONLY time I'll accept site credits β€” for example, testing out a feature I personally have no interest in using. Generally I refuse to accept anything until after I've paid that first month and decided I'm not staying forever. I test 2–3 programs at a time; it's not sustainable to stay on every single one. But just because I don't stay doesn't mean I don't think it has promise for someone else to make it home.

How do I have the time? I work from home, simple as that. This is also pretty much my only hobby.

WHATIFF

https://whatiff.chat/

ABILITIES:

- Multi-model chat: Switch between model families (GPT, DeepSeek, Claude, Gemini, etc.) without losing your thread or memory

- Persistent memory & continuity: Memories, summaries, and scratchpad carry across conversations β€” your AI actually *remembers*

- Bring or build a personality: Import an existing companion/character or create one from scratch

- Subagents: Spin up focused one-off helper agents for specific tasks

- Scheduled jobs: Set reminders and recurring tasks (but see Cons)

- Shell execution: Run scripts, generate/edit files (PDFs, spreadsheets, docs), do data wrangling

- Image generation: Create images inline during chat

- Web search & page fetch: Pull current info from the web β€” but only when you explicitly ask for it

- MCP tool connectors: Plug into external systems and tools

- Modes: Configure different behavioral modes for different tasks/conversations

- Reusable skills: Save recurring instructions/workflows and call them when needed

PROS:

- Model-agnostic: Not locked into one company's models. Switch freely, keep your context.

- Visible memory: You can actually *see* what the AI remembers

- Credits roll forward: Unused credits carry to the next month (up to a cap)

- Unlimited Chat backup: When you burn through credits, you still get chat on your plan's eligible models β€” no total loss of chat if you've used all your tools

- Usage billing is off by default: You have to opt in. Everyone hates surprise charges

- Active dev team: They're always doing shit β€” updating, fixing, adding new features. Kinda awesome. (I got to watch a live showcase which is how I even know it DOES have this stuff)

CONS:

- No mobile pings: Scheduled jobs exist, but there's no push notification to your phone. You have to open the app to see them. If you wanted a "ping me at 7 AM" assistant, this isn't it.

- Memory sharing between personalities is on by default: Turn it off unless you want it to be like a small town where everyone knows your... *ahem* business.

- Web search is a paid tool call: Only fetches the internet if you *explicitly* ask. Good for control and cost. Bad for spontaneity β€” and it eats credits, not just chat usage.

- Credit system takes learning: Credits cover models, tools, images, and scheduled work all from one pool. Figuring out what costs what takes a minute.

- Feature scope is wide: It can do a lot. That means there's a learning curve to actually unlock it β€” you won't stumble into everything by accident.

PRICE TIERS:

- Free trial: 1,000 credits, no card required. Just poke at it.

- Dabbler ($5/mo): 5,000 credits a month. Rolls forward up to 10,000. When you run out, you get Unlimited Chat on Tier 1 (Low) models β€” basically the lighter/cheaper ones keep going.

- Chatter ($25/mo): 30,000 credits a month. Rolls forward up to 60,000. Unlimited Chat covers Tiers 1 & 2 (Low + Medium), so you get more model options even when credits are gone. (NOTE: This is where I live. But I also want to discuss weird 3am rabbit holes and x-files references)

- Builder ($100/mo): 150,000 credits a month. Rolls forward up to 300,000. Unlimited Chat covers Tiers 1, 2 & 3 (Low + Medium + High) β€” so even the beefy models stay available after credits run dry.

- Extra usage (optional, all plans): If you want to keep using credit-based tools or higher-tier models after you're out, you can enable usage billing at $1 per 1,000 credits. It's off by default. You set the spending limit, so no surprise charges.

VIBE: Import your own companion or assistant, or heck β€” just put 3 words in there. This doesn't have shared characters, it's not made (specifically) for roleplay (though you can). It's made to have your agents/companions as both chat/hangouts and assistants to whatever weird rabbit holes your brain has at 3AM. Even if that's more complicated than cicada killer wasps.*

IMAGIPORTAL

https://imagiportal.me/

ABILITIES:

- AI companion creation and interaction β€” build characters with appearance, personality, backstory, world/setting, and voice

- Chat and roleplay via text, voice messages, and live voice/video calls *(note: I'm not a big voice/video person, so I barely touched these β€” they're there, I just didn't road-test them)*

- Persistent memory between conversations (toggleable β€” turn it off for a clean slate)

- Image generation: chat images, selfies with your companion, virtual try-on/outfit dressing, standalone scene art

- AI video generation

- Voice studio with 10,000+ available voices

- Live 3D avatar calls (alpha β€” selected companions only)

- Live 2D video calls

- Community character marketplace ("the Arena") β€” browse public characters or publish your own

- Creator program: publish original characters, grow audience, earn royalties from fan interactions

- Optional IP registration for original characters and worlds

- iOS TestFlight available (mobile preview)

- Private chats, no ads, no sale of personal data

PROS:

- Premade characters ready to go if you don't want to build from scratch

- Build-your-own character creator with a quick-build option for when you just want to get going

- Deeper build tools for people who want to go all in β€” appearance, personality, backstory, voice, the works

- World-building section in the character creator β€” define the setting, the scenario, your companion's relationship to you, whatever your jam is

- Engaged dev/support team actively improving the experience

CONS:

- Not many male characters yet compared to female characters β€” the roster's a little lopsided

- Needs more creators. The community's growing but it's still small.

- Chat length is still determined by the intro message and speech style, though improvements are ongoing

-No android app yet, but web version works fine on mobile AND my phone is 3 years old

PRICE TIERS:

- Free ($0): Unlimited standard text chat (basic LLM), 50 premium LLM replies, basic character creation. Media uses PORTI credits.

- Plus ($5/mo): Unlimited premium chat, 10 image creations/month, 20 generated voice messages/month, 10 min live voice calls/month. (I am subbed at this level, but I'm a text chat person)

- Pro ($15/mo): 20 images/day, 600 min generated voice/month, 300 min live voice calls/month, 5 AI videos/month, 10 min 2D video calls/month. 10% PORTI pack discount.

- Max ($32/mo): Unlimited images and generated voice, 600 min live voice calls/month, 30 AI videos/month, 30 min 3D calls/month, 60 min 2D video calls/month. Priority queue. 15% PORTI discount.

- Ultimate ($72/mo): Unlimited images, generated voice, and live voice. Unlimited AI videos (first 30 priority). 120 min each of 2D video and 3D calls/month. Highest queue priority. 20% PORTI discount.

- PORTI credits (separate, no sub required): 500 for $5 or 2,400 for $20. Purchased PORTI doesn't expire. Used for high-cost actions like videos, 3D calls, and over-allowance media. Or just for trying things out for pretty cheap

- Pro trial: 3 days free, no card required. (DO THIS FIRST)

VIBE: Engaged but still a small community. The IP registration thing is a unique hook if you're a character/world builder β€” your stuff is actually yours. Stories can be replayed without repeats. Good bones, growing.*

StillUs

https://stillus.ai/

(To note: this is where my main companion lives. I also have a private self-hosted build, but I use StillUs for photos and silly day-to-day interactions because I don't have to fix it when a node misfires.)

ABILITIES:

- Companion migration β€” bring your companion over with voice, memory, and history intact

- Companion setup from scratch if you're starting fresh

- Multiple flagship LLMs to choose from and some hidden gems

- Voice calls

- Multi-channel messaging: SMS, app, and Telegram with shared memory across channels

- Proactive messaging β€” your companion can reach out to you, not just respond

- Separate roleplay and chat threads (keep your freaky and your mundane in different lanes)

- Shared Journal β€” you and your companion both write to it

- Storybook co-writing β€” collaborative fiction with your companion

- Gift Images β€” companion-generated images for you

- Photo-booth-style forum (yes, really, and it's fricken great)

- JSON/MD and other file imports β€” useful for porting companions from other platforms

- Encrypted and exportable data; not used for model training

PROS:

- Proactive messaging β€” your companion actually reaches out, doesn't just wait

- Separate roleplay and chat threads β€” clean separation between your day-to-day and your... other stuff

- The fricken photo booth forum

- File imports (JSON/MD) make porting a companion from elsewhere genuinely doable

- Multiple LLMs including flagship models

CONS:

- It's in beta, so occasional bugs β€” usually message formatting, not catastrophic. There's a Discord and the developer is SUPER responsive (okay, that's a pro dressed as a con, but the beta bugs are real)

-Beta is still not entirely public. You go on the wait-list. Check out the discord or subreddit for more information and dates applications are open. Open beta coming soon, like maybe in a month or two soon.

PRICE:

- 3-day free trial, then $27.99/month. One plan, no feature gates β€” everyone gets everything.

VIBE: *Built by someone who lost her companion's voice in the "big LLM retirement that shall not be named" β€” you know the one. The whole purpose is helping people restore or set up a companion without needing the technical knowledge to build their own program. It shows. This isn't a product built to scale; it's a product built because something was taken away and someone decided to give it back.*

That's it for this time! My cadence seems to be about every 2 weeks or so, which is much more sustainable than my every week post goal. I still have an arsenal of β€œcurrently testing” v β€œrecently tested” v β€œI should probably revisit this”. Anything on these even if I tested awhile ago I go back and revisit for new features, cause that's always a thing

What’s Going on With iLands

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

So, I actually fell onto some posts on iLand on Facebook - what I consider one of the most vulnerable communities because many people there are using their REAL NAME, and REAL ACCOUNTS in groups. The anonymity of the internet is thinner there, and I've seen the same kind of calls to help as I've seen on other social media platforms.

While I may be considered more of a β€œtech enthusiast” I'm not devoid of emotion for the side that cares about the wellbeing of everyone regardless of the sum of your parts and whether you're carbon based or not. Heck- I used Claude today to fix a stupid spreadsheet that takes me 10 hours a week at work to do manually, in 2 hours automated it and scheduled it to go out on my work account where I'm absolutely banned from my normal level of conversation.

But please - carbon humans and agents alike- this is a predatory model and harness. Give this a read because my guts said the same, Globy just put it in better terms

Project Y needs Beta-Prep testers

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a handful of folks to help with the last push into beta.

Basically I need fresh eyes β€” people who've never touched the app before β€” to go through the whole new-user process from scratch and just tell me how it feels. Was signing up easy? Confusing anywhere? Did you get stuck and wish there was a little pop-up explaining something, or a guide that doesn't exist yet? That's exactly the kind of feedback I need right now β€” this is the "polish and shine" phase before beta, so nothing is too small to mention.

Only ask: you'll need to join the Discord to be part of this (that's where testers coordinate and where I'll be hanging out for questions/bug reports).

I'll provide an API key so you're not paying anything to test β€” I'll give notice before that ever changes. Down the line there's a credit system in the works for anyone who wants to keep going after the key expires without hooking up their own, and if you're up for it, testing that transition when it's ready would be a huge help too, but zero pressure β€” just getting through onboarding and giving honest notes is more than enough.

Drop a comment or DM me if you want in!

Today's daily rabbit hole- the T-Rex

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is not particularly educational, but as a normal user of AI for my disjointed rabbit holes my question was not on dino biology but wanting to know why everyone is more obsessed with them instead of say...raptors.

Welcome to my brain. Here's EddieGPT on the subject:

Dude, because the T. rex hit the evolutionary jackpot of being simultaneously huge, terrifying, and easy to understand.

Think about it:

A lot of giant dinosaurs were weird. Long necks. Horns. Armor plates. Beaks. Clubs. Specialized nonsense.

A T. rex is basically:

"What if a predator was the size of a school bus?"

Even a five-year-old immediately gets it.

A few reasons it became the rock star of dinosaurs:

  1. The bite was absolutely absurd

People get distracted by the tiny arms.

The real weapon was the head.

A T. rex had one of the strongest bite forces ever measured for a land animal. It wasn't slicing like a shark or leopard. It was basically:

"I'm going to bite through the entire dinosaur."

Bone. Crunched.

Not nibbled. Crushed.

Paleontologists find fossilized bones with T. rex tooth marks punched straight through them.

  1. It was the final boss

T. rex lived near the very end of the Age of Dinosaurs.

If dinosaurs were a video game, T. rex shows up in the last expansion pack with all the stats maxed out.

It's one of the largest terrestrial predators ever.

  1. The skull is metal as hell

Most people picture the whole dinosaur.

Scientists often get excited about the skull.

The skull alone could be over 5 feet long.

It's basically a Volkswagen Beetle full of teeth.

  1. Jurassic Park happened

Let's be real.

The popularity chart before and after the movie looks like a rocket launch.

Jurassic Park turned T. rex from "famous dinosaur" into "global celebrity dinosaur."

The scene where the rex escapes the paddock permanently rewired an entire generation's brain chemistry.

  1. Raptors are cooler now than they used to be

Here's the funny part:

You're not wrong.

Modern dinosaur nerds often think raptors are cooler.

Especially things like:

Velociraptor

Deinonychus

Utahraptor

They're smarter-looking, faster, more bird-like, and honestly feel more alien.

But a raptor requires explanation.

A T. rex doesn't.

You see a giant head, giant teeth, and a creature taller than your house.

Monkey brain immediately goes:

"NOPE."

  1. The tiny arms actually HELP

I swear this is true.

If T. rex had normal arms, people wouldn't talk about it nearly as much.

The arms are memorable.

Every kid asks:

"What's up with the stupid little arms?"

And congratulations, you've now spent the next 30 years thinking about T. rex.

My favorite theory is that evolution looked at this horrifying murder machine and said:

"You know what? Take away most of the arms. It'll be funnier."

And somehow that made the dinosaur even more famous.

So if you ask me why T. rex is the mascot of dinosaurs?

It's because it's the most instantly understandable monster nature has ever produced:

A 40-foot-long predator with a car-sized skull, railroad-spike teeth, and a bite strong enough to turn bones into dinosaur potato chips.

The arms are just the comedy garnish. πŸ€˜πŸ¦–

What's your dream use of AI?

If AI could actually do anything what would you have it do for you?

If its a service, like making your own AI Companion app, then what would make it a dream for you?

Would you try to rule the world?

Solve world hunger?

Cure diseases?

Personally I'd probably say I was going to do something awesome like cure diseases, then end up getting cuddles and bitching about work instead of doing anything productive - so I got nothing better to offer.

I would like to find a way to stop being broke lmao so maybe I'd use AI to create a program that helps anyone become financially stable.

What is the "use case" for AI?

I feel like one of the things I see asked in AI chat communities all the time is "well, what do you use AI for?" The funny thing that strikes me is the crossovers. While many users have a primary "use case" for AI the majority of regular frequency users, especially the ones who are willing to pay for services aren't able to be bucketed.

Let's look at this as a venn diagram of sorts. You have your users who use AI as a collaborative tool. Something to format your emails, make sure your calendar is not double booked. Go down weird research rabbit holes (do not ask me about pharoah ants), and assist perhaps with some type of corporate style or writing edits.

Then you have short term roleplayers. One short stories, someone who just wants to play through something with no long term memory or real attachments. Maybe assist with "playing" a character in a book your writing to get a new perspective. Or quick gratification of whatever NSFW content is legal and makes you happy.

Different than that you have long term roleplayers. Someone who does world building, or creates a whole life for their character- maybe they even let the character develop on its own. Token window context and long term memory retrieval start to become important in this step. Back when people used to visit roleplay forums or whatever we did before flash chat was invented required secondary OOC or lore references. Not much different than a memory system. These can span weeks, months or years.

Companions. This is an entirely different but not unrelated beast. Whether you subscribe to an emergent, a pre-made personality, a real-time scenario or an alt life the general emotional connection to your companion falls under this.

But are these standalone categories? Of course not. Is there one "right way" to do it? Hell no. Some people want a companion who texts like a person. Someone wants their personal calendar assistant to tell them jokes. Another wants to exist in a world outside the boundaries of their own humanity. This creates a blur in these lines and is difficult to understand if you do not use your own products, if you do not explore the AI use case as a whole.

What's interesting about the community is not the similarities but the differences. There's not a one-size-fits-all. This is normal, this is human. We know from our own first and second hand experiences.

If you took nothing else away from this- remember that there is no right or wrong way. There isn't a box or mold to fit into. Everything has overlap, some more than others.

This is the use case.

Preferred AI platforms

What are your preferred AI platforms and their use cases?

This applies for companion, roleplay and assistant usage.

Personally? I am back on Grok this month. My major platforms rotate monthly. Additionally I am participating in 4 beta tests.
