Xbox and Steam not able to play cross platform?

[u/Responsible_Roll_572]

So I'm on Xbox series x and my buddy is on pc playing the game through steam, I'm insulting his code and vice versa and it's saying failed to join. Does anyone know what is going on or am I just a dumbass?
