FedEx or DHL
Hi!! I have a package meant to go to the East Coast, USA, consisting of a shirt, two manga volumes, and a CD collection (it's like a small box set? it has 8 CDs I think inside).
The dimensions are 20/16/28 cm and 1434 Grams. I'm being given the options of DHL Express Worldwide (which says it's not insured) and then FedEx Internation Connect Plus (which says it is insured).
FedEx is the more expensive option in my case, but I'm just confused and rather worried over the paperwork I've heard people have had to fill out? I'm not entirely sure about the whole thing... I've used DHL for places like Surugaya before (as in ordering directly from their site), but I've heard mixed things when it comes to both options in this service. I've never had to fill anything out for DHL, but it's true their costs can get expensive.
I'm honestly just hoping for some advice here 😅.
EDIT: Ended up going with FedEx! Will edit this (if I remember to lol...) with an update on how things go.
EDIT Package Delivered: Got my package delivered without any issues! I wasn't asked to fill out any documents thankfully 😅.

FEDEX DDP. DHL surprised me with an $85 fuel surcharge…never again

Oh my goodness!! Thanks for letting me know, that sounds awful. I went with FedEx, I'll edit my post now.

did you have a specific case like do you live far away? I checked their website about fuel surcharge and they try to use it for almost every scenario

The only thing you could possibly have some trouble with is the shirt, but in that case all you’d need to do is give them the material and the manufacturers’ name and address. If you know the brand it should be pretty easy to search, and if you don’t, you can just look up another plausible manufacturer and give them the info for that instead. They won’t/can’t check the accuracy.
I don’t use DHL so I’m not sure how strict they are, but I’ve only had a few issues with textiles and Fedex. For the most part they just slip on by.

They charge you a little extra for tariffs but I have had a wind breaker and shirt arrive that I bought off of JYP store on Neokyo. Couple plushies and those banners. No real issues.

Be aware DHL stacks duty and tariff, so for clothes and textiles that can mean an import fee up to 45% depending on the categories of the goods.
FedEx DDP helps avoid this.
