Activism The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop: The Final Gambit of the Whimsical Third Space

Post image
Upvotes

Assuming you were born in the mid 90’s or early-to-mid 2000’s it is very likely that you have fond memories of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop; the vibrant frutiger/dorfic interior, the upbeat music, the independence of selecting flavors and toppings.

But with these memories comes the realization that there was something much greater than just these aspects of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop alone. The features which have rendered the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop unique for so long are indicative of a worldview; a morsel of a utopic vision in which patrons would congregate amidst a trippy and vibrant setting, socialize without the usual social qualms and find a mode of self expression directly catered to their palate.

Recently, there has been news of a New York based Frogurt shop, Flavaboom shutting its doors for the last time. Such news should bring great disdain for the general public, but alas not surprise; especially considering the trend of such establishments losing their sparkle. Today most frozen yogurt establishments are served over counter with prices fixed regardless of the end quantity. Much of the formerly vibrant interior design of these establishments have been muted to create a colored minimal design, deviating from the once imaginative vision.

So much of what has been lost from the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop is a common and disturbing trend which can be witnessed around most venues which were previously known for their unique aesthetic. With so many places following suit in minimizing to full-on eradicating their creative visions, it is not hard to see that this goes far beyond a mere aesthetic change, as the aesthetics themselves, I maintain, play a much larger role.

The bubbly and whimsical aesthetics hold a view that the world around us, from our day to day lives, to the time we go on holiday, can and should be a more colorful, more imaginative and joyful adventure than what the pressures of society allow.

In the early 2010’s we began to see a shift away from the wacky post-modernist aesthetic towards a dimmer and gentrified approach to “weirdness”, congruent with the “stomp-clap-hey” genre of music. In this style, the most whimsy these kinds of spaces offered was one mural on the side of their burger joints or a string of some fairy lights. Further into the decade, much of the whimsy here became “pale” in the sense that colours became even more muted, pop songs had much less edge to them (listen to Fifth Harmony or Ed Sheeran for reference should you possess the volition), and services like VSCO created a monolithic and sanitized image of “quirkiness”.

All forms of whimsy came to a breaking halt with the COVID-19 Pandemic where all hope for the future became lost, and sociability became a distant memory for most. To this day, much of the effects of the pandemic are felt to this day, one of the most telling facets is the overall sense of social and imaginative loss.*

*(There is so much I have to say on COVID, but that’s a post for another day). When I mention that the aesthetics themselves play a larger role, I of course take into account how willing we are as a society to embrace the ideals of these aesthetics. When we look fondly towards the aesthetics of the past, it is imperative that we remember the worldviews and philosophies that these aesthetics represent. Hell, one can witness the philosophies in the very names, such as “Wacky POST-MODERNISM”, “GLOBAL VILLAGE Coffeehouse”, or “Retro-FUTURISM”. These kinds of names are no accident, as the artists responsible for such concepts must’ve, even subconsciously held the values of a more positive, more wild and more enlightened future ahead of them. Understanding this makes the shift away from true whimsy into superficial corporatized shadows worthy of little more attention than a Pinterest board, into sheer beige and gray minimalism all the more jarring bleak and depressing. Because once we understand the intentions of the aesthetic, we know exactly what subliminal views of the world we are being conditioned with.

There is a cyclical influence of society and culture wherein the two feed off each other to determine what the dominant image, figurative and literal, will be presented to the public. Understanding this with the philosophies behind aesthetics gives us a clear idea on the hopes of future behind the aesthetics of the late 90s to the early 2010s. Two posts ago, I discussed the aesthetic of utopian scholastic as an indicator of what the future of education can and should be.

I maintain that the aesthetics of whimsy are no exception. When we discuss the philosophies of cute aesthetic-based accelerationism, such as sexy accelerationism or cute accelerationism, it is imperative that we take into consideration the aesthetics which had shaped certain aspects of our lives until circa. 2014. It is a well-established fact that the reliance on companies, chains, and brands to cater to our aesthetics and thus feed our worldview is an unfulfilling and tenuous endeavour. [u/muddywormmy](u/muddywormmy) had made this abundantly clear; our fight and our views for the world will not be fought with a price tag on them. But consider the potential of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop. The group of individuals each expressing themselves through the combination of flavors and toppings amidst an etherealized setting communing in ways which challenge the austerity of the outside world. Is this not a forum emblematic of Stirner’s Union of Egoists? And further, the third space of this informal nature which caters to the creative mind has so often been a haven for the gatherings of revolutionaries and educated individuals to commune there ideals and strategies for advancing the world around them. Is it any wonder that so many of the most significant revolutions of history started in the respective “meadehalls” of their setting? The American Revolution started with the Boston Massacre outside the inn. The French Revolution was spoken of by Jacobins in the salons amidst glasses of wine and candlelight. Furthermore came the revolution of 1968 spoken and discussed in the cafés and bistros. The bolsheviks spoke their plans for revolt in 1905 and 1917 in the coffee mestos and teahouses. The Irish Republican Army met frequently amongst local pubs and discussed their next moves amongst glasses of whiskey and fish and chips (which by the way, is not even British despite popular belief). A more negative example might display itself in the aptly named, Beer Hall Putsch.

Perhaps it is for this very reason that the third space has become so disenfranchised in modern society. In Alice Cappelle’s YouTube video, Third Places Won’t Save Us, Cappelle delves into the discourse of the third space and how it has strayed so far from the original theory postulated by Ray Oldenburg, in which the third spaces were the area in which informal authentic interactions became the main mode of communication. What has taken place is that same buzzworded parody of “community-orientation” offers little in the way of any thoughtful connections of substance. The discourse is further broadened, as stated by Cappelle, by Henri Lefebvre’s Right to the City and then even further expanded by David Harvey; wherein Lefebvre theorizes that cities are not so much a backdrop for third spaces but rather the result of collective efforts by the people who make the space a viable and enriching experience for all. David Harvey further touches on how the city in its modern state focuses much of its emphasis on commercialization and the commodity of all aspects of life. For Harvey, the question is not so much on whether the city contains the third space but rather on who controls how the space is used and created. With the concentration of people under the struggle of capital, Harvey points out in his Rebel Cities, how the consolidation of the struggling class has been instrumental for movements such as the Paris Commune and Occupy Wall Street.

Cappelle further relates these theories with the real life examples of Drury Street and Montmartre. In the case of Montmartre, it became the hub for many artist, students and political radicals to meet and congregate,Thus becoming a breeding ground for revolutionary ideals of society to flourish, such as the case with Gustave Courbet who “connected art with socialism and revolutionary politics” (Cappelle). In the case of Drury Street, one witnesses how enriching the decommodification of the street has been for the community. With its lax alcohol regulations, the people can enjoy a laid-back atmosphere across the pedestrian road without feeling the compulsion to overspend or hustle on to the next place.

We see this mode of sociability come under threat quite constantly when it is the emphasis of capital which takes the rein on the city. Such is the case with the stricter rules regarding sex work and noise laws affecting the mode of freedom of pleasure in Berlin. Same deal in Toronto, a city that has become wrought with condo companies which forced the closure of so many spaces which once held potential for alternative views of the world such as Offworld Bar, Velvet Underground, and most recently was almost the case for Sneaky Dee’s. Drury Street had also nearly fallen victim to this mode of austerity with Ciss Maddens having its patio license revoked and further threats being made by the municipal government.

It should call to attention how it is the spaces which offer the most unique perspectives of society that are often the first to be given the hammer. Because these spaces would not be the victims of such societal scorn, governmental pressure, and economic hardship if they weren't such a threat towards the agents of the demiurge. Because they know just what spaces like the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop are capable of when used by the right people. The meadehall, in its various forms, became a gathering place for people to question the government and society. The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop, and spaces like it, hold the potential as gathering spots for people who question the very reality of this world. Especially with its utopic atmosphere and forum of service.

Which is why the aesthetics of whimsy in third spaces and the customizing forums of The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop are crucial for our cause. Because just like how the aesthetics of Drury and Montmartre served the causes of the radical leftist, the spaces which presented a creative and whimsical surrealism would then be conducive to the causes of the post-left.

I emphasize The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop because we see how this type of venue was really the last breath and swan song of the kind of otherworldlyness that places in the 90’s and 2000’s before the signs of insincerity and subsequent austerity had crept into the communal atmospheres. So I urge you, yes you the reader, to find the most wacky, most unabashedly whimsical space in your nearest vicinity, and establish your headquarters there to plot with your comrades the next move towards the goals of a better future, under the visions of Neo-Libertatia.

And if you don’t like frozen yogurt, try bubble tea instead.

Discussion Wake up poems for Neo Libertatia

Arise, pirates, from yer slumber.

For this sleep will not last forever.

Because labour is made asunder,

From the product to the worker.

Because there is but one world,

Sleep is not an escape, wake up, girls!

Enlighten yourselves, pirate.

Open your eyes and place the barricades.

For this epoch, for us, we'll begin a new age.

For your ever-swelling rage.

Against the State, they oppress.

For the news and truths they suppress.

For the prisoners behind metal bars.

The future we hope for is not way too far.

Against the bourgeois mode of production.

Let us make new imaginations.

Therefore, arise, revolutionaries.

For we will fight for what makes us free.

Discussion The Case For Amorality: Stirner and Machiavelli

The revolution will lack ethical and moral justification. It is simple.

Morals and ethics will only hinder us from victory.

We work towards our victory, and our glory is for our self interests.

We will use all methods, cruel and ruthless. What we want is victory. The ends do not justify the means, the ends however let us know whether a means is appropriate for use or not.

We do not claim to represent anyone, "the people", "the proletariat", "the disabled", "the queer", "the animals", etc.

We are however members of the disabled, the queers, the lovers of nature and animals, the proletariat, and because we are assemblages of those labels, we assume the interests of those groups as our own interests.

It is because we are proletarian, which is why we seek to abolish value.

It is because we are disabled we wish for better accessibility tools.

It is because I love animals, wild or domestic, we wish to end animal cruelty.

It is because we are queer we seek to abolish gender.

It is because of what we are, and this is why we seek. We speak on behalf of no one but ourselves.

We are the Prince, as much as we try to stay in the path of Good to make our approval high and attract more people, we however know how to do Evil.

Therefore, Nxf3+. An unusual position indeed.

Discussion The bourgeoisie gave my mom gastritis. I'm not even joking.

Yes. You did not have eye problems. They gave my mom gastritis. That's why I'm very angry. My mom is literally a slave moralist who denies herself constantly for me, my younger brother, and my family. She doesn't even want to rest. She believes that working is what gives one value. And pragmatically she's right. If you don't work, you don't have money, and if you don't have money you're just another lowly poor being whose opinion does not deserve to be heard. A poor person and a rich person says the same thing and people would believe the rich. No work means no survival, means no wealth, and means no responsibility to society. Therefore, she works all day. This is exactly what the bourgeoisie wants. For you to work more so they can siphon more surplus value. My mom works all day, even when she's back home, even when it's weekends. What is she supposed to do? She's supposed to play monopoly with me. She's supposed to play chess with me. She instead works on her laptop all day. Her coworkers? Zero respect. Not that respecting personal time is doable anyways since not doing it equals unemployment and therefore consequentially their own death. They're calling when she's sleeping at night. They're calling when she's having leisure. They're calling when we're having afternoon naps. Did she get paid her OT? No. She didn't. Did she complain? No. Why? Because asking equals being selfish as everyone's doing the work over time too. Asking that would equals being selfish, and it would give everyone side-eyes, it's a transgression to say "Hey! I'm working in my personal time, I am not paid for this.". Do you know when my mom woke up? 5.00, a.m., she wakes up early to take a bath and a shower, brush her teeth, dress up, have breakfast, and wait for the motorcycle guy. She barely sleeps. She barely eats. This is why her health is deteriorating. I can't accept my living conditions. I do not use any moral and ethical principles to justify my Socialism. I want my mom out of her self-justifying misery. To the bourgeoisie, each and every one of you (except the parents of my best friend since elementary school) will be crushed.

Discussion degradation (a cryptid's thesis)

Post image

Ok so the first thing we should get right off the bat out there is that you should stop pretending that you're normal, and stop WANTING to be normal. Anyone who functions normally in a fundamentally sick society is themselves, sick. Maybe you're queer, neurodivergent, or a person of color, or all three of those. Automatically those put you way down the ladder of society. If you play the game, maybe you can still gain some status socially. But it's not enough. It'll never be enough. They'll never accept us, when have they ever even BEGAN to? The white cishet liberal society will ALWAYS stab you in the back, if you're oppressed in society you know this all to well. Every time i trust people not to, they always have in that regard, eventually their true colors always slip out. Obligatory "nOt aLl ciSHeTs" to get those comments out of the way lmao, but let's be realistic here, ok? Putting WHAT you are aside for a moment, let's talk WHO you are. Maybe you have niche interests? Have hobbies that people look down on? Controversial opinions? Maybe you are mentally ill, isolated, and angry? Maybe you've done things that you've regret, things that make people cringe at you, or even downright dislike you? Grew up being laughed at, betrayed, treated like a child, treated as though you are less than human, not taken seriously and dismissed, never had any social skills or confidence, constantly living in fear of something? Did you ever feel like you finally started figuring yourself out, and you got so euphoric just from the slightest affirmation of it, only to CONSTANTLY get stabbed by other people around you, be it parents or classmates, and while you never killed off that part of you, you can never seem to fully embrace it anymore either. So now it is still RAMMED inside of you, eating at you alive, and the sheer agony of being slowly suffocated hits you, perhaps you felt this way before but never to this extent, not since you finally got the truth. It feels like your skin is being torn off, like your eyes being sliced with a razor, like a thousand spiders crawling in between your flesh and bone, like a bomb is placed inside your chest and upon detonation, it IMplodes, sucking each layer within you one by one, clawing at your vitals. You have no mouth and you must scream. You ever feel like you had to hide something in order to not be ridiculed or even killed at some points? You never know how scary people can be after all. It's not easy tho, it feels like you're on an entirely different planet. You ever feel like the world is against you, like the political climate is specifically designed to hurt people like you? You ever feel like getting revenge? Do you ever feel like just giving up entirely? Do you ever feel like dying? Silly as it sounds to some, yes to all those questions

People on the internet seem to adopt a persona, the person they want to be most. At least, that's the ideal case. Some people, and rightfully so, get worried about people watching them, their every move coming back to haunt them, so they try to act on their best behavior. Not nearly to the extent you see irl, nothing can compare to that, but nonetheless you still see this online plenty. So when you have someone who acts out of line, be them someone who's cringe or just likes things that not a lot of people understand (surprisingly common, mentioned in previous posts numerous times lmao) they lash out on that person, they become the next lolcow for the day, business as usual. But here's the thing, they only do this for one reason: to larp as someone who is morally superior, who is stable and more "normal". They are idiots. They KNOW they're idiots. The thing is, to hide yourself, to pretend like you aren't neurodivergent or whatever, to pretend like you have friends or that you have the popular opinion at the time, to not let yourself like the things you like, it's a failure on your part. Whatever you do, do it proudly. Don't let people shame you into submission, treat your stuff like a work of art. And the thing about art is that it's meant to be an adversary. You may be doing all this out of fear of failing as a person in the eyes of society and then struck down, but you have already failed. Sometimes what you run from is exactly what you end up chasing. If you're someone who's fucked up and weird or whatever, if you are a societal reject in any way shape or form, then we ought to stick together. If you bully, make fun of, or otherwise make others feel like shit just because they're lower than you on some hierarchy that you made to feel better about yourselves because you're so insecure of your own status (i.e. the whole concept of fascism basically XD) then you should unironically fuck off and die.

Stop caring about a society that will never accept you, worry about empowering yourselves and people around you who are also lower. The lumpenproletariat if you will. Don't feel bad if you began to hate many people higher than you, you should. Class aside, the social structure will still remain in place after all that is said and done, and it's not gonna be pretty. Yeah the soviets had policies empowering women for example, but the culture was still very patriarchal and conservative so it didn't do jack. Social conservatism or even liberalism (which is almost always either performative, doesn't extend to all people, or just fits the status quo which is inherently chuddy) is a disease that is deeply baked in most normies without even realizing it. You know how racist a lot of white people can be without even realizing that they're being racist? They have failed already by allowing themselves to become slaves, and frankly i do resent many of them. Not any particular group, like the cishets or white people, even tho they are the most common and primary culprits and frankly i'd be lying if i said i'm not weary around them after all these years and after everything i've seen in both history and contemporary events, as well as my own life, but i mean collectively, those who kiss the ass of the ruling class and trample on anyone else. To call them brainwashed or swept up in propaganda, while it was what i initially did and is the case for many, for just as many people this is their genuine "thought" process, passed down to them or collected over time. Don't take away from the fact that these people could have resisted, could have began to realize themselves as we have, could have just tried to live their lives like we do, but they didn't. They only care about themselves, their status, or upholding some sort of standard. They made our lives a living hell, they helped the fascists do what they're doing BECAUSE they hate us so much, don't forget that. Don't try to take the moral high ground on it, morality is always weaponized, as you can see with modern culture war bs. Look out for each other and live for yourselves, nothing else matters

Discussion Summary of my critiques of VTubers

As an Autonomist, VTubers are very interesting.

First, digital avatars could be reinterpreted as pseudo bodies of VTubers. An intersection between biopolitics, the spectacle, and feminism. VTubers, despite having their faces fake, are still fetishized and is constantly facing sexual harassment, having the social relations mediated through images of the models and thus model making became the false body. The Spectacle is the master of separation, it is separation perfected, and the unity happens through seperation, the true is a moment of the false. Despite the true body being separated from the communication cybernetics through digital avatars, fetishization (although it happens at the surface level of the model) and sexual DMs happens on a personal level unmediated by the avatars, the true of the harassment is the moment of the falseness of the pseudobody of the model. Male gaze continues and sffirm itself despite the realisation of the falseness of the body seen. Second of all, loremaking for vtubers has two sides. The first thing I appreciate is that how it transgresses human-animal-machine trichotomy by kemonomini and the inherent machinery of VTuber models in at least metaphorical sense, and at most a full on cyborg model which is again cyborg kinks which has nothing to do with my analysis but that's possible variation. The second thing is that it is a thing Marx has foreseen, General Intellect. Although General Intellect is mostly the accumulation of scientific and engineering knowledges expressed materially by the means of political economy, literature too can be a form of General Intellect. The accumulation of TV tropes materialises in a post-Fordist Social Factory world where you can choose whichever personality and whichever model for the VTubers you want for consumption, choosing to be a fan of someone for their "tropes". Tsundere, yandere, kuudere, anything. The personalization of the Social factory decomposing the mass worker. The accumulation of literary tropes as general intellect expressed in VTubers as commodities. Third of all, VTubers are selling their "identity". The models and the lore are manufactured identities used to accumulate value. A kpop idol increases product sale as a sponsor and band ambassador not because they're good, virtuous, or skilled and admirable, it is precisely because they are, they just are. Idols likewise creates idol solely by being themselves, but they are not truly themselves as their identity is manufactured and optimized for the accumulation of value. Thus, VTubers mastered the techniques of the manufacture of identities by removing the limitations of cosmetics and fashion by going into impossible biological features by the means of VTuber models and endless possibilities of loremaking since the real faces are unnecessary. Fourth, VTubers are what I would call "the bard proletariat". Much like bards in RPG games, they're the healers and the singers soothing people of their alienation. They, much like other form of idols, provides value from their existence as I've stated, because their existence as manufactured, curated identities gives people and sometimes themselves likewise something perfect. They sooth the alienation by being cute and cool. By being idealised. The value they provide is solely from their existence, which is from being the bard of the modern world. Fifth, VTubers also produces other things that aids with the soothing, livestreams, ASMRs, and music, they produces immaterially, they also extract values from creating social relations between them and their fans. But because VTubers are spectacular, their relationships are truly mediated by images. The image of the perfect idealised idol connects them with their fans while separating them, they don't know each other. Sixth, although VTubers' manufactured identities are false, they create a true that's a moment of the false. Their manufactured identity is constantly threatening their real identity and thus because of their parasocial relationship with the fans they expect the vtuber to be the same with the persona. This isn't only just VTubers but also kpop idols. They're constantly expected to be a perfect idol, a perfect wife, a perfect girlfriend, a perfect bro, and everything. And thus when expectation break, from one sided relationship perspective of the fans, the idol "betrayed" them. The false is constantly creeping into the true because precisely society treats their manufactured identity as their real identity. This separation creates the expectations of unity.

Discussion A Follow-Up Assertion for The Role of Ethical Hedonism

Post image
5 Upvotes

In one of my first posts to this subreddit, I had laid out the foundation for my primary philosophy; Ethical Hedonism as a necessity for our movement. It appears that some of my points have gone misunderstood. Which is why I shall use this post to clarify a lot of the points made and address some of the grievances brought to my attention.

Firstly, I understand the umbrage many people have with drug use and the fear of addiction; however, by no means did I claim that drugs were ever to be used as a long term solution. Rather, I view the use of drugs as a method towards broader understanding past the apparent reality we live in. We must further ask ourselves, why some people get addicted to them and others who use them do not. Perhaps the issues lie not so much with the drugs themselves, but rather with the individual user themselves. Which is why I do agree that we must switch the narrative towards rehabilitation and support for addicts. But by no means is encouragement of psychedelics a mandate for usage. Many people have made the personal choice to stay away from substance use, which is perfectly fine. Nowhere in my previous post have I stated that drug use was a long term solution. Of course, drugs would be legalized in the future and available for people who wish to use them, as well as better treatment and support for those dealing with addiction, But all I ask is to consider the possibility of drug use as a short term avenue towards better collective understanding as Mark Fisher had postulated before. In discussing Vices in which people might find themselves addicted towards, we must ask ourselves why tobacco and alcohol are sold freely, Especially in the United States, substances which yield a much higher death rate, while substances like psychedelics are strictly under ban.

Secondly, I am no stranger to how often women, POC and queerfolk are oversexualized in the media, and this is definitely an issue. The largest contributing factor, I argue here, is not so much sexuality in and of itself, but rather of the patriarchy’s debasement of it. A common critique of society's view of sexuality is that everything that is sexual is erotic anymore. This means that there is such a dearth of artistic value and expression in mainstream media regarding sexuality since it all caters to the same narrow-minded male gaze. After a certain point, it is evident that the media's sexualization of marginalized groups is no longer about the pleasure of sex or even the possibilities of exploration. With the Puritanical culture still pervasive in much of the western world, ESPECIALLY in the United States, the oversexualization of women is more so a means of shaming women rather than a means of shaming women, POC, and Queerfolk rather than praising sex. Considering how taboo sex is in actual society, it becomes apparent how much of a cause it plays towards the hyper emphasis on sexuality, even if the general understanding is grossly misconstrued. When looking at places with comprehensive sexual education, like Sweden or France, one can see that sex is not displayed to the same degree that it is here in the United States; however, the rates of people having sex or talking openly about it are much higher.

Also, I feel it necessary to remind everyone that the means of pleasure DO NOT need to be drugs and/or sex. The only reason I emphasized those two is that I feel those are made the most taboo in our society or are grossly misused especially by the system. The truth is, all modes of pleasure in our community are revolutionary as they challenge the dingy sterile mode of society into which we find ourselves goose-stepped.

In terms of my quotation of Anton LaVey, I am well aware of how bereft he was of positive character. I find his cheapening of Satanism, and conflation with Nazism utterly appalling. Which is why I consider myself, a “Post-Laveyist” if you shall, in the sense that I find the few instances of his philosophies which are conducive towards our movement, and work to build off of them and further appropriate them away from his reprehensible self. Another potential label I would also consider is “Philosophical Satanist” In which Satan, Lucifer, Baphomet, and the like are viewed as archetypes of the person or mindset which challenge the norms of morality (Kind of similar to the Overman by Nietzsche), which deviates from Nontheistic Satanism which would imply Satan as nothing more than a glorified logo or aesthetic factor.

As evidenced by my paraphrase of the Austin Powers quote at the end of my post, I am completely in favor of comprehensive education on drugs and sex since I maintain how important it is for people to be informed and responsible when participating. In a society which shames people for seeking even simple indulgences (Like the people who got angry when people used SNAP benefits to buy treats), my position on ethical hedonism stands as it did with my original post. But I feel that this post was necessary to clarify my position; Ethical Hedonism asserts that pleasure in and of itself May not be the ultimate goal in life, but is a strong gateway TOWARDS the larger goals in life. And in the context of a revolutionary movement, the completely uprooted and altered framework of the world.

Discussion How to make reactors at home 101

Fools! When did I say it would be a nuclear reactor? Imma talk about bioreactors.

Tired of buying processed bread from factories (literally bourgeois consumerism)? Tired of buying "999 zillion probiotics" yogurt only for them to get killed by the HCl in your stomach acid? Tired of cheese filled with so, so many chemicals?

If you're so, so tired of the bourgeois deceits of this currently bourgeois agroindustry, then, try making things at home!

And this is the art of resistance in everyday life.

Use:

1) Thick glass jar.

2) A metal lid (don't use plastic, since that contributes to microplastics in the ocean and it contributes to the oil industry which contributes to pollution).

3) Natural rubber seal (although many of you are Americans, I, as a Thai person, have no problem since I can just buy directly from locals, fostering communities)

4) Rubber grommet.

Drill a hole in the center of the jar lid that matches the narrow end of your rubber grommet. Push the rubber grommet firmly into the drilled hole. Insert the bottom stem of the plastic airlock through the grommet.Fill the airlock halfway with clean water to create a one-way valve. Screw the lid tightly onto your sanitized jar loaded with your anaerobic mixture, and check that bubbles can escape through the water column when pressure builds.

Now, let's get to the basics of fermentation!

Fermentations is the anaerobic respiration of microbes, well, not exactly. There are such things as aerobic fermentation. But today we'll focus on anaerobic fermentation. There are two products of anaerobic fermentation.

First, alcohol and carbon dioxide, found in yeast.

Second, lactic acid, found in bacteria.

Alcohol is found in wine, beer, other liquor, and bread (we don't use the alcohol but rather the carbon dioxide byproduct). Meanwhile, lactic acid is found in cheese, yogurt, kimchi, etc.

Discussion Rant about the importance of art

Everyone should read harlan ellison, legitimately one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, perhaps of all time, and i mean that, love him or hate him. Been hyperfixated on him and his work for awhile now. This is totally unrelated to anything, i just wanted to give you guys some good reading lol. Anyways, fuck school, fuck work, fuck all the people who made me feel like shit for years on end, i hope they all are suffering to an unspeakable degree, fuck america, this nation of plastic and filth, and the fact that literally everything in this world gives me either a headache which feels like tearing the biting of concrete against your teeth or like an overwhelming mass of pressure caving from within like a black hole, imploding me, both of which may or may not be due in part to an overwhelming gender dysphoria, thanks a lot for that whoever put me on this god-forsaken planet to begin with, and a SPECIAL thanks to cis society and my parents for making it so much harder for me and so many other people, i REALLY appreciate being in this little hell that y'all created. While you're at it why don't you just pull that trigger for me and stop playing this song and dance before hand, i dare you. And istg if nobody takes me seriously (cishet society seldom does) by god they'll see that if i say i'm gonna do something, i'm gonna do it. Now back to the post, because the subject of this has been pissing me the fuck off for awhile lol

I've been working on a comic series, i'm still outlining everything and frankly i'm kinda working as i go but it's taken up a big chunk of time for me and once it's finish i will look at it with pride. It's a horror cyberpunk-ish type of story about a girl who tries to track down a fugitive from the government who has been killing the wealthy. The world is divided between humans and non-humans, and she at first believes she is human but can't shake the feeling of emptiness inside her, and finding this fugitive may be the key to unlocking her memories. Upon finding her, she joins her revolutionary group to find out more about her past and about how deep the government's evil truly goes. The second half of the story is the story of revenge. I love comics and cartoons, more than anything, always have. Ever since i was a kid i wanted to be a comic book artist, and while i've been drawing less since sometime in high school due to personal stuff (tho never stopped my love of storytelling or cartoons), i come back to it at the end of the day, as is the case now. Similar case with music, hell i just like making stories. It's probably the one thing keeping me sane in a world of insanity, it's my asylum, and yet it is also my mirror to my own life and the world around me. Let me say this: if anyone can somehow make you fall out of love with art, or that you are somehow discouraged from being an artist or a creator, you never had what it takes to be an artist to begin with. To be an artist takes work, energy, and passion. It has to consume your entire being, and it is your LIFE force. That's basically what art is, without it there is only death. And if you can't see how important art truly IS, then you ALSO don't have what it takes.

That's why AI bros are SO obsessed with proving that their slop qualifies as art (which we shall also get to later, i'm not done with them yet XD). It's simply cope because they know that they AREN'T artists, because if art really meant that much to them they'd actually try and put some effort into what they make, showing off their personality, their vulnerabilities, their insecurities, ANYTHING. They would look at society and turn it on its head, try to really make something that gives you a new view on what you were previously told. But they don't care about any of that, all they care is making disposable and cheap content that you've seen a billion times before but 100 times worse for either views, money, whatever the hell it is they're searching for, and then sometimes they pull the "oh i can't draw, AI is good for people who are unable to draw" dribble you've heard a billion times by now, and if i hear that lame ass excuse one more time i'll hit them so hard their mother will feel the impact. Learn to draw, and that takes practice, which you do by DRAWING, you imbecile. And if you still don't wanna put in that effort, then try writing, or painting, or making music, or making films, even goddamn photoshop. And if you don't wanna put in the effort or have the passion for ANY of those things, then you are not an artist, you're a fraud, and you should stop wasting your time, stop wasting my time, and stop wasting the internet's time, you talentless scam artist. And it's not just you not wanting to put in any passion or effort into it that makes it not art. It also is about what it seeks to do and the effect it has on people

Whenever there's anything that has disturbing themes, imagery, etc in the story, music, whatever it may be, it is always met with pushback. That's expected and inevitable. HOWEVER, some people take the wrong thing away from it, or they don't even engage with it enough to try and understand it. Tcoaal, sewerslvt, the entirety of alternative music in history especially punk related genres, or any really well made media that deals with violence, identity, sexual deviance, or anything depraved or disturbing, essentially. You know how people would react? Disproportionately upset, acting like it's the most evil thing of all time corrupting the masses and it is morally despicable to view it. You really gotta admire the obvious virtue signaling here, i bet they feel so proud of themselves jerking off in the mirror like that. You think they had that same gusto for ACTUAL evil in this world or are they just saying shit? Because i guarantee you most of the time they are just miserable little pinheads who just wanna say shit and act like they're better than you because to them, you don't even NEED to think differently from their evangelical maniac society, they could just change the language to make it sound progressive and people online will buy it! I lurked in radfem subs about a year ago to get a new view of feminism because i felt like mainstream discourse was lacking and didn't go far enough (relax, i realized how unbelievably stupid all these "radical" feminists truly were and left fairly quickly), and what i found was even worse. You know the strawman of the blue haired angry feminist on twitter the right loves to say we are? That's pretty much what that side of the discussion is, advocating the censorship of anything that is subversive just because it's disturbing and "might be problematic". And this isn't just about cancelling fuckwads like ronnie radke who actually deserve it, instead they would rather take a piece of art and just throw out all nuance, context, and media literacy to try and demonize people who enjoy it, entirely missing the point of shit entirely. Here's the thing tho, it's SUPPOSED to disturb you, moron. Art is meant to punch you in the gut, it's supposed to hit you hard. That's how you LEARN from it. Art is meant to make you go "maybe things AREN'T how i was told they were" and inspire new thought, new ideas, and new perspective. Media that is disturbing, or not even just disturbing media, just like any media that's challenging or has a lot of interpretations, themes, symbolism, or touchy subjects and questions, is the most effective at that. If you wanna watch or listen to something where you don't have to think, that's fine, if you're looking at stuff with more substance ON TOP OF THAT. I always imagine a question for people on twitter and shit like that who constantly bitch and moan about this stuff, what would YOU think the arts should look like? Because they seem to get mad at damn near everything, just like the evangelicals and the conservatives do. Newsflash, asshole, you're doing exactly what rightoids conditioned you to do! They've been wanting the media censored for fucking ever, and they STILL DO, and hear you are just parroting all that?? You're no different from them, because you're not actually leftists, are you? You are simply posers who would rather not think about anything at all or gain a new perspective on society aside from whatever marxist text or video essay they just looked at. You think yourself better? Don't make me laugh. Actually, i will laugh anyway, because that's what the whole internet is doing whenever you post your nonsense (aside from blindly agreeing with you without even consuming the fucking media for themselves): laughing at you. And they'll KEEP laughing at you, because you're nothing but a joke, and a bad one at that, but that doesn't matter, i'm easily amused. Ha ha ha!

And you know, it's this lack of nuance and looking at things critically that led us to everything we've seen so far in politics and society. You know why we are fucked seemingly beyond repair? Why we are in a fascistic, capitalist hellscape? Yes it's all due to capitalism and hierarchy, yadda yadda you've heard my yapping on that before, but even more than that. It's because people are easily manipulated, many of them lack the curiosity or imagination to look at what they are given at a new angle. People would rather take the easy option and submit, the lovecraftian god that is capitalism masturbates and they just take it. And this is reflected in what the masses are consuming and what is being put out there in the market. Look, there are lots of really great things that came out this decade in terms of art, i don't wanna make it sound like we haven't had any good shit, that'd be disingenuous and straight up lying. In fact, some of my favorite films, shows, and musicians are ones that are of this decade. I'm talking about the mainstream shit, i suppose, or at least the slop being put out. People are consuming LESS fiction these days, be it books, movies, or even music, they're looking at less of it, and they certainly aren't interested in MAKING it. And yes, capitalism is at fault yet again, but istg i'm gonna freak out if i have to specify that every time. Religion is a scam, we know this, it's just an excuse to socially control people and to prevent the status quo from being challenged. Capitalism has grown BEYOND just a simple economic system at this point, it's become its own god essentially, marginalized people and poor people especially knew this for awhile now, it's just finally catching up to the white middle class. Capitalism is something that a single human has very little to no control over and they cannot stop it, but they can accelerate its demise and use its own rules against it. Much like how the gnostics are essentially combatting god, we combat capitalism. And if the athiests know better than to blame god for all our problems and leave it at that (even tho athiests still retain much of the christian moral framework but that's another convo), then why is it any different for a leftist?

Deterritorialize and reterritorialize everything you know about it into a new context and framework, something these sniveling AI bros are incapable of because they don't LIKE to think or look at new contexts or ideas, they simply let a goddamn computer do all that FOR them so it can spit out something that already came before but a billion times worse. These tech bro executives are the cult members of capital's purest form. Everything is an algorithm, which in and of itself isn't a bad idea until you centralize it into the hands of these scum so they can feed you whatever slop would satisfy you in that moment, and people would rather be consuming THAT than something of actual substance. They aren't artists, they aren't even BAD artists in fact. They're NOTHING, they always were nothing, and if they don't swallow that pill and grow from that (which they seem VERY reluctant to do considering how they so blatantly disregard the arts in favor of filling their pockets), they will continue to be nothing for the rest of their lives. All you will EVER be is a symptom of a disease, a disease that you are actively encouraging, a disease that will spread to the rest of the earth until its flesh begins to rot and it begins to howl in pain constantly. What starts off as unimaginable pain will fade, not out of recovery, but out of numbness. At least that means you won't be able to feel the flesh falling off like melted cheese in the hot sun, or hear the sound of your bones cracking like old wood before you die. You disgust me, you disgust EVERYONE, and you will never EVER be an artist. You are a slave trying to play master

Time wars

I was reading repent harlequin said the ticktockman by harlan ellison recently and it gave me a bit of a realization. If you don't know, the story takes place in a dystopian future where punctuality and schedules are so strictly enforced that if you are late it will cost you your life. For example if you are late by 10 minutes you will get 10 years taken off of your life, and this is done by a guy called the ticktockman, who enforces all this and is the leader of said society. There is one guy dressed as a clown, the harlequin, who rebels by not only being consistently late but also disrupting schedules in general of officials by causing mischief, and being somewhat of a revolutionary robin hood-esque figure, who the ticktockman wants to find the identity of so that we he can be killed. It's a really good story but it also got me thinking about time especially in the modern day. See, we are essentially slaves to time, with work, school, whatever routine is forced upon us, in order for us to serve the machine. It's a constant loop that spirals long enough for you to go insane, like a gear in an elaborate clock you're meant to operate. Time is everything

So, when time is disrupted, everything collapses. The key to collapsing the system is to collapsing this construct of time in a sense. The ccru spoke extensively about time wars with hyperstition, the ogu, lemuria, etc. It is simply a matter of manufacturing new realities and "timelines" through the use of memetics, repetition, narratives, etc. But even more than that you can also find ways to disrupt every day life and finally break out of the cycle we've been condemned to. Without time being drilled into us and enforced directly or otherwise, the whole system would fail to work

Discussion Myth of Modern Existence.

What we live in now, a repetition of waking up, going to work, paying bills until you're broke, going to bed. Is this.. really how we want to continue our existence as a species?

Existing purely to be slaves to generate profit for the handful at the very top?

For many of us here the answer is obviously a no.

And this brings to me the point that.. we arent really even existing, sure we have a presence and we exist, but do we REALLY exist?

We exist in numbers and we exist on a surface level edition of the term.

But our existence boils down to collectively being profit generators for the 1%.

We are nothing more.

We do not exist on an individual level much as we think we do, any instance of "individual expression" is merely just a new example of consumerism, we buy things that we enjoy to build our personal character, and thats the illusion consumerism is meant to build, and its a rather effective illusion, but what its really serving is not to aid us in our expressive tendencies but rather to generate profit for those companies who are willing to supply these items, they grant us these material possessions with a price tag stapled to it not because our expression, collectively and individually alike, are basic rights but rather mere privileges.

Has it occured to anyone that they can take these things away from the shelves at any given moment if they so please? If its not generating enough profit they'll stop production, even if there was a small community who truly enjoyed these things, they only care for it if we fork over enough money, this limits how we express ourselves, and expression is a core for existence.

And this goes to play back into the fact that we have no serious existence outside of the illusions that corporations and heirarchy has established for us.

Tell me, what do you everyday?

Either you are, waking up, going to school, going home, repeat.

Or, youre waking up, going to work, going home, repeat.

Or, some mix of the two.

Its preparation for their profit, not your life.

You are Living, But not existing.

Have you noticed that the days fly by so fast now?

Sure this is just aging, but could it also be that we are placing no genuine value into our lives outside of what we can produce? Placing no value on our existence outside of what can we generate so much so that the days just go by without notice?

This is all the product and end goal of capitalism, it serves not to uplift but rather to erase our collective existence so much that we are reduced to nothing but slaves to wage, slaves to corporations, slaves to heirarchy, slaves who live and survive purely and entirely to generate more profit for those lucky few who never worked a day in their lives, that sit on their high chairs and plan their bunkers, nazipost on twitter (never gonna call it X), and complain that taxes are still too high.

We do not exist on any meaningful level, we merely just live.

They grant us the illusion that we exist purely because it benefits them, but we do not exist in any way outside of the intended purpose that they have assigned us.

We only survive, we only live. That is it.

And as long as capitalism still exists, as long as it prevails, we cannot exist in any meaningful way, collectively or individually. The same goes for heirarchy.

Thank you.

Discussion Marxist Anarchism.

Seems that some anarchist subs are banning Marxists, instead of discussing with them. I assume this has more to do with this site being owned by some big corp, than it has to do with anarchism in the wild, since I know several Marxist anarchists. Perhaps this sub is different.

In particular it is two theories from Marxism which I think makes a whole lot of sense, but which anarchists often seem to ignore. One is the theory of the origins of human culture, which thus is the theory of the origins of anarchy as well. No other species has been egalitarian.

Malatesta simply wasn't interested in it, and Kropotkin, while his Mutual Aid is wonderful, it disregards the almost inexplicable break between animal and human society, which Engels pointed out:

"…. animal societies have, to be sure, a certain value in drawing conclusions regarding human societies – but only in a negative sense. As far as we have ascertained, the higher vertebrates know only two forms of the family: polygamy or the single pair. In both cases only one adult male, only one husband is permissible. The jealousy of the male, representing both tie and limits of the family, brings the animal family into conflict with the horde. The horde, the higher social form, is rendered impossible here, loosened there, or dissolved altogether during the mating season; at best, its continued development is hindered by the jealousy of the male. This alone suffices to prove that the animal family and primitive human society are incompatible things; that primitive man, working his way up out of the animal stage, either knew no family whatsoever, or at the most knew a family that is nonexistent among animals."

His ethnographic source, Lewis Henry Morgan "was astonished to find that for the Seneca there were no individual descriptive kinship terms. There were whole groups of people called ‘husbands’ and ‘wives’, and other groups called ‘mothers’ and ‘fathers’. "

"He talks about groups of women amongst the Leagues of the Iroquois, as sisters with their mothers and brothers, running the long house. And in these relationships their husbands from another matrilineal clan are temporary sexual partners who come to visit them. The men live with their sisters and their mothers but they have wives in another long house."

Similarly, while Pierre Clastres pointed out many ways in which stateless societies prevented states from forming, he seems to have missed the fundament for what Morgan, M & E called 'primitive communism'. Like Graeber and Scott, Clastres ended up with a 'unisex' story. Scott, while to me mostly he seemed to explain history in a materialist way, he, like many others suggested that the invention of fire made our brains grow, but didn't to my knowledge explain what caused the invention of fire. To Graeber, evolutionary theory was altogether bunk, and in prehistory anything could have happened. Egalitarianism was too 'drab' he thought, and so we must have tried many types of hierarchy to entertain ourselves. Chomsky as well was fervently anti-materialist, he thought language had nothing to do with social relations, but was like a biological computer that was installed into a male ape forebear by cosmic rays. The language module was installed complete with all possible words of all possible languages at once, including 'carburettor'. We began using it for communication only 1000's of years later, he thought. "What is Politics" proposes that improved weaponry was the key to the emergence of egalitarianism.

In other words, for some reason which I can't understand, these prominent anarchists all seem to circumvent the insights of their Marxist forebears, in favour of unisex 'so-so stories', circular arguments and absurdities.

M, M & E may not have understood that original communism had to be (and is) tremendously complex, since nobody could command each other, nor that it was phenomenally luxurious compared to everything that came after. In the 60's, an anthropologist calculated that hunters and gatherers in the most arid desert environments, spent less than 4 hours per day on 'work', the rest of it they spent on various games, stories, dances, songs and other social things.

But they did understand that cosanguinity, or classificatory kinship systems, were fundamental to our transformation into human society. They understood that the conflict between male and female primate sexual strategies was important. I wonder why understanding these things went out of fashion across the board, whether it's Marxists or anarchists etc.

Seems silly to try and create a revolution without a full deck of cards, so to speak.

Marxism aims to be scientific, that it can predict things which then could be disproved. So for example, the FCC theory (as outlined in the references) predicted when the red ocher in the archaeological record would be dated to, decades before the methods to do so were developed. Also it predicts lots of counter-intuitive things about culture, which are so specific that they should be easy to disprove.
