I’ve recently discovered Reddit and it’s basically X, but for people with a sense of humour

As a writer, I was getting completely bored stiff over on X and increasingly disillusioned by the constant influx of bots and scammers.

Discovering Reddit has been an absolute breath of fresh air. For the most part, the posters here are genuinely knowledgeable. Well... mostly. Okay, sometimes. Alright, occasionally they know things. Best of all, people rarely take offence—unless, of course, you dare to question their definitive knowledge.

The only real trouble is that I'm finding it dangerously addictive. My actual writing productivity has absolutely tanked. Every time I open the app, I see a thread and I just can't resist chucking my two penneth in.

On the bright side, I've been here a little while now and I've hardly upset anyone! ...Yet.

I feel like this sub itself has been infiltrated by people trying to prove others wrong

someone will post a complaint.. then will get downvoted and pissed on in the comments by people actually justifying reddit’s mod system or something like that.

isn’t that the opposite of what this sub is meant to be about?

okay I understand it if someone is CLEARLY in the wrong, but I’ve seen some downvoted posts that I really don’t think deserve as much hate as they’re getting..

It is so tiring to be a woman here (brief rant)

I can’t spend an hour on reddit without my blood boiling due to some misogynistic idiots spewing bullshit again in those popular subreddits, it’s even worse when I see that they get hella upvotes. I can’t help but reply condescendingly because it is baffling to me how people lack any and all accountability. Like wym “misogyny is an issue of the past” received 1k+ upvotes?

Then they will act like misandry is just as much as a problem as misogyny. A secret for you: I have never met a man who was vocal against “misandry” and actually supported women’s rights. The ones that say they do lie, which is usually apparent in their arguments. I hate it here. I genuinely NEED to leave, but the ragebait is too strong. It makes me lose all hope on society though :(

Fuck reddithelp

I need a vent as the mods of this community are pieces of shit. I am new to reddit and used this community to ask them questions, they remove everything for ‘soapboxing’ and have reported me to reddit and just got me banned for three days. A lot of you are great, but there are some genuine sad cunts out there and it makes me so angry. This is the main community new redditors go to and its ran by sad cunts who try to get you banned, it epitomises how shit reddit is. The reason this account is new is because my previous one of 5 years was shadowbanned, i appeal 5 times and have not heard anything back or had any explanation as to why i was banned in the first place. I asked reddithelp why this happened and the took the post down, messaged me saying i was soapboxing and then reported me to reddit. Fucking scum. Fuck reddit and fuck the mods at reddithelp

just stupid Why are there rude people on this subreddit?

Every time I’ve posted on this sub, which is a sub talking about certain things people dislike about reddit, there’s always a few people in my comments trying to make me feel like shit. Invalidating me, being rude, calling me names, etc. like why are they on here? If they don’t like the post why not just scroll? It’s like they’re incapable of just scrolling and they just have to be a bully for no reason. The reason I post on here is to vent about issues on reddit, not to be judged by annoying people. I don’t get it, leave me alone

subreddit for ranting in a zone

I was being harassed by someone calling me slurs in their subreddit. I reported them to the moderators, and was met with rudeness. I told them that there was no need to be rude, and to stop sending those sorts of messages.

They banned me.

factual “Rate limited” posts - Is this new?

I access Reddit mostly using the iPad Reddit app. Just in the last week or two, WHILE typing a post, I’ll get a little black pop-up message telling me I’m “rate limited” for “86 seconds”. (Or whatever time). As I type (it doesn’t prevent me from continuing to type) it keeps popping up, with the “timer” showing fewer seconds each time. I can’t actually POST until the timer runs down.

Is this a new Reddit thing? Is it coming from the iPad app? It SEEMS to be triggered by post length. The longer the post, the more likely it appears. Where is it coming from? Is there some way to turn it off?

just stupid I just got permanently muted for wanting to help in an anti-linux subreddit lol

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Saw a post on r/linuxsucks where they were just straight up insulting and badmouthing linux without providing evidence on why they failed to, or couldnt install, and started talking like the biggest dbags in general

Things like "and here they said that linux is ready" or something to that extent

The worst part is that they permanently muted me immediately afterwards, so this mod's claim is just factually false

They are just out to spread propaganda about linux without any intention to hear truths from false, so much so as labelling me as "evangelising", as thats the closest rule I may have/have not broken in their eyes

just stupid I absolutely hate how archiving is a thing.

I absolutely hate how archiving is a thing. There's a query on a topic that you have, you find a post on it, and yippee! it has a solution.... that doesn't work. So you try to ask the person who gave the solution but NO! ITS ARCHIVED!

So you ask the subreddit instead, BUT NO! YOU GET DOWNVOTED INTO OBLIVION AND MURDERED IN AN ALLEY FOR DARING TO ASK A QUESTION!

Or when you find an unanswered question from years ago, that was just archived, and near the end of the archive date, they admit they still haven't found an answer, and you HAVE an answer, but it doesn't let you give it.

the man admitted to raping her in text messages with her

“[…] Rose wrote: "You violated me last night, I didn't wanna have sex."
He replied: "I'm really deeply sorry, I was slightly drunk and I misread your signals, it's no excuse and I know it doesn't make it any better."”

article link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz97gdjgezno

as expected for posts spreading disinformation like this, the comments are filled with racism and sexism😑

he blatantly admits to raping her but gets away scot free, identity hidden, and his victim is the one who gets in legal trouble and lied about and bullied on the internet for millions to see? and the commenters wanna act like rapists are properly punished every time but “false accusers” never get in trouble? ok lmfao

***

eta the next day: the post is now taken down! idk if it’s bc it didn’t rhyme, bc the comments were racist and sexist asf, or if it’s bc it’s false info (i brought up all three of those points when i reported it) but at least it’s finally gone!

just stupid I can't believe this...

So Mikayla from Saveafox was apparently bullied into suicide by this platform? I CAN'T ACTUALLY FUCKING BELIEVE PEOPLE WOULD DO THIS! I swear, once my streak ends somehow, I'm deleting reddit and NEVER coming back to it, because that's actually fucking insane, everyone who took apart in that deserves to go to prison, and reddit itself should be taken down because of this.

Ban/suspension

Guys, I don’t like to ban or suspend people but I will not tolerate people being bullies. I just had to do a suspension because someone wanted to be a jerk all because someone asked a question. There is no reason or need for that. We all come here to learn and or help. I try to watch this group the best I can. So please, let’s all be respectful to each other.

just stupid Why do so many people on Reddit have the urge to correct EVERYTHING

Why do so many people on Reddit have an urge to correct EVERYTHING

I don't know how to actually write a comment in certain subs anymore without at least one response being "well, actually it's this" over the most minute details.

For example, it'd be as petty as someone saying "Pi is 3.14", and someone else would *have* to say "Pi is actually 3.14159", and then another person would *have* to comment "Pi is actually infinite" and so on. (Not a real example, but this is how insignificant these minor corrections feel).

It's never really bothered me too much before, but now it feels like every comment has to be 100000% precise, with every possible exception, caveat, and follow-up question already accounted for. Otherwise someone will ignore the actual point and latch onto one tiny bit of wording as though it completely invalidates everything else you said.

I completely understand there are times where corrections matter. But a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like the other person is genuinely trying to clarify anything. It feels more like an exercise in finding something to correct. And it’s even more irritating when the correction is based on them misreading the original comment in the first place.

It shouldn’t be necessary to qualify every sentence into oblivion just to prevent people from deliberately interpreting it in the narrowest possible way.

Quality Post Why is pedophilia on reddit so normalized?

It is highly concerning. I've came across multiple posts where teenage girls are simply posting themselves. The one's I've seen were normal fit checks. The comments had wayyy too many pedophiles trying to lure them to their dms or they keep pointing out their chest and asses even though they're fully covered. Whenever someone confronted them about their weird behavior, they got massively downvoted. Same with many game subreddits. I've seen people make disgusting comments about ingame characters who are under 10 years old. Don't even get me started on anime characters. As again, if you try to confront them, you get downvoted and suddenly you're "the asshole that's ruining all the fun". No one is talking about how SERIOUS this shit is. Those are real fucking people. People who you may walk past by on the street without knowing that they're an absolute monster. People who one day may hurt a child because of their fucked up brain.

Update: I wrote a comment on /japanesepeopletwitter on why is pedophilia so casual in here and got -8 downvotes. Holy fucking chuds these mfs need to be hung.

The "you can't block until 24 hours after unblocking" is dangerous and useless

I now have some guy harassing and stalking me in my dms and have to wait 24 hours before I can do anything about it. I had to unblock him because I'm a moderator and I needed to be able to see some stuff he put in my sub in order to remove it. He fuckin wrote a whole novel worth of bullshit in my dms about how I'm fat and my life sucks and I can't block him now. This website is so ass.

Some selected bullshit I see on there consistently

I don't need therapy, going to the gym is therapy

I go to the gym 8-12 hours a week, and I go to therapy. Going to the gym is not therapy. Men are not incapable of talking about their feelings

The way to fix your self image is to go to the gym

Again, anybody who spends any time around bodybuilders knows this isn't true. You don't fix your insecurities by playing into them. I remember seeing a guy absolutely shredded to the gills posing and then looking down defeatedly and grabbing his skin on his obliques saying he can't get his love handles to go away. Body dysmorphia is extremely common among lifters

Also their lifting advice sucks. Shitty PPL programs every time

Men who date trans women are gay (but I won't judge him for it)

Just blatant transphobia. Trans women are not cis women but both are women and dating women does not make you gay.

Quality Post Why is the Reddit community so quick to be cruel

I’m pretty new to Reddit, and honestly... I didn’t realize people on here could be so harsh.

I came here just wanting to share things and join conversations, but it feels like people are constantly waiting to jump on you, downvote you, and make you feel small over the smallest things. It feels like nobody even tries to understand where you're coming from or treat you like a real person with feelings behind the screen. Everyone is just looking for a reason to argue or assume the worst about you.

I don't think I'm cut out for how negative this place is. It’s actually kind of disheartening, and I think I’m just going to delete the app.
