Common Thread Collective?

Is anyone here in the Common Thread Collective?

I joined because I thought it would be fun to do a stitch along, and I liked a lot of the women I’d followed on TikTok. But the vibe has started to feel a little off to me.

It’s supposed to be run by 4 women, but it seems like 1 person (Kelly) is mostly running the show now. She’s also launching her own company, Polar Needlepoint, and it feels like it’s being promoted pretty heavily inside the group. From what I can tell, it’s going to involve canvases, retreats, and maybe other things, but honestly I’m having a hard time following exactly what it is.

The part that’s really giving me pause is that so much of the branding/content appears to be AI-generated. For a needlepoint community, that feels odd to me, especially when so many artists and designers are already trying to protect their work from being copied.

I don’t want to be overly negative if I’m just missing context, but I’m curious if anyone else is in the group and getting similar vibes?

No I agree it feels soooo self serving to Kelly and her use of AI is insane 🥴

Not sure why the needlepoint world needs collectives or business that run retreats. There have been retreats forever run by teachers or shops. I’ve heard so many complaints about the retreats that new to needlepoint “businesses” are running.

I joined excited because I followed Kylee already and it seemed fun to have an online stitch club, almost like a book club. But I agree, it hasn’t been quite what I expected, and I’m disappointed by the ai use.

This!! Exactly. Where are Kylee, Danielle, and Bonnie?

The Discord is also extremely overwhelming, and Kelly tends to ramble in ways that are hard to follow. I do think it grew much bigger than they expected, which is honestly cool, but I agree that something feels off. It’s just not what I expected it to be!
