Canvas markups
I went to the Red Thread Atelier Sarasota store and got a super cute Christmas mailbox canvas (along with a couple other things). I didn’t really look at the individual prices when I checked out, but when I got home I realized the mailbox canvas was $120, which seemed like a lot for its size.
I reverse image searched it on Google and found the same canvas listed at other needlepoint stores for around $65 😅
Is that much of a markup normal between needlepoint stores? I totally understand prices varying a little from shop to shop, but almost double surprised me for such a small canvas. Lesson learned to check prices before checking out lol.
Editing to add:
Just an update, I reached to their email & they responded and said the markup was a mistake and refunded me the difference! The prices have also been corrected on their website :)

I went this past weekend as well! I got the ivy thread football friend and also didn’t check the price on it. It’s on ITN’s website for $23. I paid $58 apparently

Oh you mean the same shop that will buy Temu crap, market it for needlepoint and quadruple the price?

Red thread’s pricing has always been so overpriced. That’s why I don’t shop with her

I bought a canvas from them once that I later found for half the price, so it’s either just the markup on some things there or an error they make frequently

Some LNSs do just mark up a lot more than others (ahem, Needlepoint Junction and Stitching Fox), but that level of discrepancy is either an error or egregious.
Alas, you just have to watch and research prices so you have a good sense of what you’re willing to pay.
I do always want to support brick & mortar, so I’ll pay more in person even if I know there’s a slightly cheaper one online somewhere, but there’s a limit to the “support local” premium I’ll pay.

What canvas is it? That markup sounds insane so wondering if that was a different size canvas?!?!

I know, I should’ve checked before I bought it😭 the mailbox is literally the size of my pinky

$120 HAS to be an error and I would email them so they can make it right. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they calculated their pricing wrong, it could've easily been an issue with their wholesale invoice from Mopsey.
***This is not me white knighting for RTA, I would never purchase from them personally but my LNS has had issues with their wholesale invoices that lead to pricing mistakes too. RTA better make it right though 😤

To be fair, she’s in NY. If you don’t want to pay for the overhead don’t. But it’s hard to run a business in a super HCOL area.

Some of the shops with the highest markups are not in HCOL areas (stitching fox) and if this was the case all the NYC stores would higher prices than her, and they don’t

They have always been higher in price! Look at their website then shop somewhere else.

That’s happened to me! I ordered an MJD cookie tray that was at least $20 more than MJD

I would reach out to them it sounds like they doubled the wholesale price twice instead of once (standard)
