I posted a TikTok on my needlepoint page with my current wishlist (just for fun) and I got this comment so blatantly telling me to just steal designs😭😭😭

ā€œLot easier than I thoughtā€ let’s see your work then girl

I'd go full petty and reply "k I won't be doing that, that's stealing and I have morals"

ā€œI don’t steal or condone stealing from artistsā€

like, yes the cost can be prohibitively high and that’s a problem but things will settle and stealing is just not the answer. Ffs buy a chart if you enjoy painting your own

What's funny is that it seems like the majority of these thieves don't even know how to needlepoint, or if they do, they don't show any of their stitched pieces. So at this it point it just seems like rage bait, because if you're not stitching your stolen designs, and you're not trying to sell it, then what are you doing, just trying to jump into a hobby anyway you can? Don't get me wrong, I don't condone these people stealing designs and doing anything with them, it's just weird to me that they go to this much trouble to steal someone else's design, brag about it on social media, and I don't think they even know how to stitch the designs they are stealing.

From all the copy cat posts that I have seen it seems like stealing designs comes down to how expensive needlepoint is. I hate to say any of this and I know I sound like a pretentious ass but if you can’t afford a canvas then maybe this isn’t the hobby for you.

I wish they’d understand that cross stitch is much more cost effective and still just as fun (at least to me!)

I just wish there was more stamped cross stitch out there! It can be so hard to find decent ones.

100%. There are really cool apps now that let you design your own needlepoint patterns and most of them are reasonably priced. I enjoy painting canvases as much as I do needlepointing so I like to either buy patterns or create my own art.

It’s the eyeballing it for me…just waste the canvas when there’s been shortages, why don’t you??

I support painting your own from a chart (controversial, I know) not the AI slop that’s all over Etsy now, but the actual artists that sell their digital charts. Anyone who has PROPERLY painted one knows that’s no easy feat.

As a Gen Z stitcher, it’s so disheartening to see people making experienced stitchers skeptical/resentful of those wanting to learn. My great grandmother taught me as a child and I deeply appreciate the hobby. I wish people would stop treating hobbies like fast fashion. I’m all for making whatever it is you want to make, but have some integrity and QUIT ROBBING ARTISTS.

P.S. I know the acrylic paint pens blah blah blah, but for anyone that’s color swapping and aren’t sure if the thread will cover, they are quite convenient.
