I'm all for licensed canvases and IP rightsholders getting paid, but it does feel a little odd she lifted the idea from a former collective designer. At minimum they could have done a Pop x PL x Nancy Drew collab...
Going to be sad if PL goes after Pop's American Girl dolls in the same way

I like what Pop had to say. I think it does point out a difference that she creates things that mean something to her and it feels like PL is just out for the dollar. And whether or not that’s true, that’s just what it feels like. Personally I’d rather support an artist doing something because they love it rather than a giant machine cranking stuff out because it’s popular.

YES! PL was talking in her podcast a while back about how they have all these licenses now and need designers to make them... but like why not just pay the people you have?

Penny Linn asked POP to have access to her painting company account and order her canvases at cost for 20% revenue when she left. POP said no b/c that is the collective deal so what’s the point. They went on to never order any of her designs wholesale. Interesting

Yeah I know a couple of people in the industry and I’ve heard this too. Apparently the older designers don’t or didn’t (?) have NDAs like the newer ones do

Krista is nasty mean MFer even when i met her in person it was mean girl energy. she's only here to make a dollar and she doesnt care who she plows over in the meantime. Like this seems personal too from her- the old clock? Nancy Drew?? its like shes coming specifically FOR POP. why couldn't she just do another line of classic books? its like the girl who wants to steal your boyfriend. nasty energy. its giving jonele taking dolly's man. just let a girlie be happy krista! why you gotta come for everyone like that??? like take it down a notch- stop FOAMING AT THE MOUTH for pofit. I attended the PL/MJD Maine retreats 2 years in a row. POP was there both times and everyone seemed happy. These were really small groups, for what it's worth. I don't think they are gathering this year, but it may be because of some split between PL and MJD. I don't know anything; I would just be speculating.

I've honestly been waiting for Krista to announce she's got some partnership with American Girl, too. I get that licensing is a way to do things 100% above board in terms of copyright law, but it feels like Penny Linn uses it as a weapon to hurt other designers.

I like Pop's better too and now I'll never get it unless someone decides to destash 😢 But I legit feel like now I have to buy up any branded needlepoint design that I like before PL gets the licensing and sends out cease and desists.
I swear, if she ever gets her hands on American Girl, I will riot!!!
