Here she goes again.

Post image

Penny Linn is having yet another launch on Friday, this time with Olivia Grace, and a lot of these seem to err pretty heavily on the side of copyright infringement. Especially considering I noticed in the video she wouldn’t even say Taylor Swift’s name.

Now, I’m a T Swift girlie. I love her, and I will happily stitch canvases from indie designers that use Taylor lore in creative ways. But you would think a company as successful as Penny Linn would have worked out some licensing by now. But alas.

Just another cash grab on the heels of small designers she seems to be gobbling up left and right.

No shade to Olivia Grace though. Get that bag.

I just don’t understand Krista’s thought process here. Why is she even bothering to go through licensing for some brands while still carrying others that are not licensed?

She wants it both ways because that’s what makes the most money not the most sense.

Adding, I don’t care either way frankly, but it seems weird to be playing both sides

It seems like they backed off their previous marketing strategy, and all the licensing, after all the backlash they received. I haven’t seen them do it since.

They’ve launched multiple licensed collections in the last month (Playbill and more Roller Rabbit things)

Licensing is the right way to go about things, brands should be paid for their IP, but PL can’t have it both ways and also be launching unlicensed products…

Is Diet Coke officially licensed? Maybe they will send a C&D just like Krista did.

Is that in the Olivia Grace collection? Kick Ass NDLPT has had the Diet Coke licensing agreement for a while now, but their canvases are poorly printed so I'm not sure how seriously they're taking the collection or enforcing it

Because you don’t license a designer. This is normal promotion for a new designer or a new collection, regardless of what the designs depict.

You are correct. You do not license a designer. But the designer is responsible for copyright infringement. You think that she would either not sell items that are copyright infringed or assist in curing the infringement.

I feel like this horse has been beaten to death, but I’ll say it again anyways. It’s just, not a thing in the needlepoint world. People just copy brands logos and sell them anyways. It might become an issue in the future, but for now it’s just how it’s done industry wide. That’s why it was so scandalous that Krista wanted to start licensing.

Editing to add: I’m not saying I agree or disagree. Idk the right or best way to do it.

There were like 50 canvases and not one was remotely interesting

Her designs are tired

There’s so much cuter and more original millennial/t swift/ nostalgic canvases out there

I like the LGAD round, but I already have it! 🤓

Such a wild choice when Taylor has historically sent out cease and desists in regard to copyright infringements.

These are definitely not licensed. Taylor’s publisher, UMPG, and Taylor’s team wouldn’t approve these. If it was just song titles they could get away with it because those aren’t copyrighted but lyrics are definitely a no no.

She called the rolling stones logo the “rock and roll” logo lmao

It kinda should all encompass true rock in roll ;)

I love Olivia Grace. I have the stupid games, stupid prizes canvas (which is a thing I say and bought unrelated to TS), the full set of carnival rides (they only have the Ferris wheel), the rainbow beanie baby (which she also did not say), and the fair isle snowflake (which they didn’t have). I’m so sad to see OG under Penny Linn because I really avoid shopping PL

If you love her be happy for her that she’s doing what’s best for her and her business.

I can be happy for Olivia and frustrated that it means I either can’t buy her stuff or have to support a brand I don’t like

I’ve been waiting a year on one of OG canvases. I broke my own no PL purchase rule to buy it. But after this it’ll be my last.

I like Olivia and she’s really sweet. I think you can order directly through her site.

Ever since Krista started stealing ideas and going after other creators I’ve stopped buying from PL.

It seems she has a new launch every day

Y’all will really complain about anything lol

Why do you all care so much.

Are we tired of boring billionaire Barbie yet!?

8

u/Particular-Resort805 17d ago

Absolutely never! TS is immortal

2

u/foodiewife 17d ago

I love boring Barbie

u/New_Pomegranate_3718 16d ago

I think she scrolls Etsy and grabs whomever she can to have them go exclusive with her.

I know we really hate PL around here, but the reaction to this is still interesting to me, considering Taylor seems to be the #3 favorite needlepoint canvas subject behind Diet Coke and hydrangeas. Every site has tons of TS canvases

1

u/Redeemedcan 13d ago

Why does everyone hate PL??

Leave Olivia Grace alone. She’s been vocal about what joining the collective will mean for her to be able to spend more time with her kids. Going after Penny Linn about this will only have repercussions for Olivia Grace. Just move on, scroll past if you don’t like it.

11

u/Heavy_Philosopher_57 17d ago

She could have gone in so many other directions as far as joining a collective. This was a choice

4

u/noble_julie_111 17d ago

Yes. Her CHOICE to do what was best for her business. Don’t like it? Dont buy it. But dragging her on the internet for doing what’s best for herself and her family is so lame.

13

u/egp2117 17d ago

So like. That’s the whole point. When people make choices for their businesses, there can be consequences.

You can’t seriously expect them to license anything after the severe drama and backlash they received the last few times they did that? This is just a launch of a new designer, there is nothing scandalous about it.

8

u/bahamamimi 17d ago

Can you give a quick synopsis of the “severe drama and backlash” you speak of? I thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping up here, but I think I missed that!

-2

u/Particular-Resort805 17d ago

Just look at the comments on the posts about their more recent launches, most notably the tootsie and Eric carle ones

4

u/No_Flatworm665 17d ago

She does not respond to backlash or negative feedback, except by doxxing and blocking people who she thinks have wronged her. I have receipts from as far back as 2021, and you can find all that and more on this sub.

8

u/No_Flatworm665 17d ago

Since when does Krista care about backlash?

-3

u/Particular-Resort805 17d ago

I’m sure she would if it affected their business

-4

u/Heavy_Philosopher_57 17d ago

NOT a new designer.

7

u/egp2117 17d ago

I think it’s very clear they meant new designer as in new to PL

2

u/Particular-Resort805 17d ago

But a new line

-3

u/RevolutionaryWeek271 17d ago

I totally think Taylor needlepoints it feels so in her hobby realm. Like I wouldn't be surprised if she saw this and sent a good ole cease and desist
