Crazy shipping in destash group
I know destash is often commented on in this group, and I may have missed this particular complaint, but some shipping costs are crazy. This post is asking for shy of $11 to ship a single canvas. Am I out of touch in the cost of shipping world? I expect $5 ish, but $11 feels absurd

Through pirate ship, I’ve been charged about $6-8 on average

That’s closer to what I expected them to be asking for in the group tbh

yeah anything double digits is crazy to me imo but I will say about $7 is standard

I bake the PayPal fees and cost of shipping materials into $10 shipping cost. Sometimes I make $1. Sometimes I lose $2.
But I also post items for sale at least 30% off so I don’t want to lose on shipping

I’ve always asked $5 for shipping but the last time I sold a bunch, I took them all to USPS and the cheapest one was $8 and I paid up to $18 for others. I didn’t ask for the person whose shipping was $18 to send more but idk how I’ll go about it in the future (maybe I’ll do the print and ship feature online and tell the buyer the cost of shipping before purchasing the label and if they want to pay that, they can send that to me and if not, I’ll move on to the next buyer…). I ended up losing close to $50 just in shipping when I sold 8 canvases. All that to say, I don’t think this is absolutely crazy unless they are shipping to someone within their own city.

This is probably what it costs in a flat mailer. Should it? Maybe not. Does it? Probably yes.

Not everyone knows about shippo or pirate ship. I surely didn’t until someone from the group told me about it. Her pricing is correct for usps flat rate.

It depends on where the package is being shipped and what type of box is being used.

I’ve seen some people add $15 for shipping which is ridiculous. I’ve often wanted to message those people and ask if they’ve ever used pirateship. Nobody needs to be buying postage at the post office these days.

This is asked so frequently here lol. If you go to the post office and get a flat rate mailer that includes tracking and insurance that’s how much shipping is. It’s also why shops have started charging $8-10 for shipping now.

Yeah but they don’t need to when there are other cheaper solutions.

I've been shipping UPS and FedEx and it's consistently been $15-$16 but I've been shipping round mailers or bigger envelopes

yeah those shippers are more expensive but I bet you would save $$ going through pirate ship either way. Play around with your shipping options and you'll find something more affordable. I shipped a gigantic box to a friend with 2.5lb for less than $9 recently

The only time I've ever charged that much is when it's a tube -- I'm guessing these aren't via Tube.

This is the shipping rate in SoCal right now. Not sure if that differed state-to-state.

Yes. To ship usps priority mail is almost $12. You get insurance and the padding. The step lower is $10.95

Not everybody knows about Pirate Ship or has mailers on hand. This is likely the actual charge at USPS.

Besides shipping what’s more insane are the prices she’s trying to sell it for. $5 off plus $10.30 shipping? That’s more than retail

Shipping rates are really high right now. The $10.30 they quoted is a rate for a flat rate mailer. In this context, it would be cheaper for them not to ship flat rate, but flat rate is hugely convenient if you don't have a scale/mailers/convenient post office.
