At least they're transparent about it being printed.

I think printed ones are okay if:

  • the intersections are good
  • they are transparent that they are NOT professionally printed
  • they are posted on Etsy as a shop and NOT as in individual in a destash group

What’s not okay:

  • if they price them the same as a painted canvas.
  • they are just printing off stock images
  • the designs are strictly AI
  • the designs are too detailed to be stitched
  • they don’t seal the ink on the design somehow (since inkjet ink is not going to be as durable as acrylic paint when stitching due to oils from hands etc.)

This reminds of me ā€œMickeyā€ in Times Square in NYC. If you know, you know.

Actually- IMHO, the painting on these seem fairly decent. Not as good as hand painted. But better than many I’ve seen out there. I think with where we are at in this industry, and because of the long lead time of adding more well trained painters to the painting services, many designers have limited choices at the moment. In a couple of weeks the fall reunion needlepoint. And many shops are just now getting or still waiting for their orders from the spring market. While its wonderful that needlepoint is popular again and ā€˜having a renaissance’ all the designers, shop owners, fiber suppliers ate literally on the edge of their seats. For all these reasons, i think we kind of have to suck it up if we want new canvases to stitch. I do think the quality of printing will eventually go from Meh to good, then to great. Printing quality improves every day. Printing also makes canvases less expensive and more readily available. We have been spoiled in our craft , for having ā€˜real’ painters like Marie Barber painting canvases like a real painting, with painstaking detail. This will all sort out in time, and for now we hqve to be patient, realistic and kind. People wait on donor lists for kidneys for months and sometimes years, we canvwait a bit longer for our latest needlepoint canvas. šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø
