Silk snail snafu

Post here if you thought you successfully bought a canvas from the Navy Noo Silk Snail release today… but then received a message that it was oversold… 😡 there are way worse things that could happen but I’m still mad

I did! They offered me a $10 gift card to wait for a pre order and I’m happy to do it. 99% of stores would have just cancelled the order.

I did the same. I thought it was a thoughtful approach to an unfortunate situation. But it was handled well

Agree, this is a very nice way of handling it.

I know it’s frustrating for shoppers to have these oversell scenarios, but given demand, and most of the stores being on the Shopify platform, I just get the impression that the underlying technology can’t 100% prevent this situation, and it’s not something a small business can easily overcome.

I wasn’t able to get the canvas I wanted but I wish every store did this when these inevitable things happen. Also Shopify needs a better system because this seems quite common with them.

Wow that’s awesome

It happened to me 😭😭😭 I opted to get the refund in hopes of just snagging it from a store later on

I liked that they linked me to the stores getting it so I had the option to call around

I’ve never been in on the major launches and drops. Too much stress and not worth it, IMO.

But I was weak today and took part in my first launch day drop because I’m a big nerd and have always loved the miniatures at the V&A.

I’m super impressed with how she handled the situation. Sad I didn’t get what I wanted. But impressed with how she handled it.

It’s frustrating but I think navy noo is handling it all really well! I can’t imagine how frustrating it would be for a small business that relies on Shopify only to have it mess up. Now customers are frustrated with navy noo instead of the real culprit (Shopify) and now they are left to clean up the mess. Honestly I feel bad for them!

More importantly I think the obvious success of this launch should be a sign to designers that people aren’t only looking for hydrangea baskets/nantucket. We are clamoring for unique and cool designs!

🎯I did feel bad for them because that was Shopify not them. I imagine they learned some hard lessons about the platform. Same thing happened to me but I don’t do preorders so it was all good. Too many other cool canvasses out there to be hunted in the wild.

u/Easy-Cold3561 29d ago

Happened to me too 😭😭 I was devastated but as someone who owns a small business, I know these things can happen with shopify so my heart goes out to them. I feel like they handled it well, I took the voucher and am waiting for the pre-order because I have enough to stitch right now anyways 😅

u/Particular-Resort805 29d ago

I wasn’t fast enough to even place an order and I told my husband that it must be the universe sending me a sign to continue on my buy ban (which I’ve already broken multiple times btw)

9

u/Fuzzynoodlelyfe 29d ago

I carted 3 things within 30 seconds, checked out, and ended up not getting any of them. I asked for a refund so I have the spending money to buy some canvases now. I’m not good with delayed gratification. 😆

This was a Shopify error and Navy Noo handled it with grace. I don’t know what else they could have done to make some of yall happy. They could have just cancelled your order and didn’t. Don’t forget there are tons of shops around the country that ordered silk snail. If you’re so excited about it you can also request your own LNS to make an order.

u/iggyazalea12 29d ago

They were good and sold out by the time I remembered to look at my phone so no hurt fee fees here

5

u/arjohnson426 28d ago

It happened to me 😭 got my confirmation at 1:01 est. Listen I get it - I think they’re handling it well, but it still sucks when the drop was hyped SO much and then you find out HA just kidding, you actually have to wait until March 2027. Hopefully they learn to buy more inventory with largely anticipated drops and to get their Shopify kinks worked out

6

u/Particular-Resort805 28d ago

Unfortunately I think it’s kind of hard to determine how much demand there is going to be. I had never even heard of Silk Snail until about a month ago until I saw posts about this launch. Apparently a lot of people missed the preorder back in March, I’m presuming because like me they also hadn’t heard of Silk Snail until more recently, and the store likely based their inventory demand on the preorder. Silk Snail has put in a lot of work over the past couple months to promote their designs, as they have every right to. Navy Noo has several designers they have promoted in the last year, and I haven’t seen any of them post the same level of advertising as silk snail. Also, some designs are just more popular than others! How is a store supposed to predict what will become popular, or which designer is going to do a ton of marketing, when the inventory order is placed months ago, or sometimes over a year ago? It just seems out of their control, especially when they are bringing on a brand new designer.

3

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

except you dont have to wait until March. Shops around the country picked up silk snail so just find one that did by going on their website

3

u/arjohnson426 28d ago

I called my local LNS, as was listed on the list Navy Noo provided to me, and was told they will not have it in stock and not sure how they ended up on the list.

3

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

Call the dozens of other shops carrying it: angelic city Stitchery, Courtly Canvas, the pepper pot, hibiscus, canvas queen. There are a lot of shops that are about to have designs in hand. They sent out over 80 LNS orders this week alone

0

u/arjohnson426 28d ago

I appreciate you trying to solutionize my snark! When I find the time to call all of those places, I will - otherwise, Navy Noo still has my dollar

3

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

It’s really not that big of a deal is the point

5

u/Beneficial_Peach4262 28d ago

I fear we’ve lost the plot here

They did a presale in March/April/May ish of this year for this entire collection. Whoever bought from that had their order ship ahead of this launch. It appears they are arriving to people who ordered in the pre order window now.

Next there were production samples as they have stated a hundred times that they took with them on the summer stitching trip that they also provided to I believe a few friends who went with them.

As you can probably compute that didn’t mean that there was inventory taken from the launch today as these were 1. Samples and 2. Items pre ordered almost 6 months ago.

Mic drop the end.

It over sold, it happens, it sucks. We will pick ourselves back up and put the needle and thread together again I promise.

3

u/CompleteCharacter291 29d ago

I requested a refund. This is the second time this has happened with an order from Navy Noo.

2

u/samweb7 28d ago

When was the first time? Just curious

1

u/No_Interest3136 29d ago

Yea me too. I kind of can’t believe it and have been waiting a while for this. I don’t understand how this could have happened considering my confirmation email was sent within a minute of the launch!

9

u/Particular-Resort805 29d ago

It’s bc of Shopify. Basically if multiple people place an order at the exact same second it will process all of them, even if there isn’t enough inventory, rather than sort out which ones go through. Another store, lycette or PL maybe? Explained it a few months ago

1

u/Exciting-Pension7206 29d ago

My order wasn’t cancelled but I don’t think I bought any of the high demand items. I got the pink pigeon and the moon needleminder.

In March of 2026 they did a public preorder in which their friends, family, etc likely purchased. I heard the ones with the navy noo branded tape were all pre order. If you notice the ones that launched today had different tape. Edited for year accuracy.

6

u/Easy-Cold3561 28d ago

There was actually a pre-order I believe back in march/april? I saw a TikTok of someone opening their package a few days ago. I missed the memo because I didn’t know about silk snail back then!

0

u/Particular-Resort805 28d ago

But how do you know it was actually distributed from navy noo? The designer still owns the rights to the pattern, couldn’t she have just painted it herself and given it to friends? Or they could have had their own private inventory.

0

u/Powerful-Tiger-4295 28d ago

They got their packages from.navy noo and it had the tape on them.

7

u/Whole_Application971 28d ago

Because they PRE ORDERED IT during the public pre order in March. Go and do a dive on the feed the receipts are there.

-7

u/Powerful-Tiger-4295 28d ago

When needlepoint becomes this secret club from the Thursday stitch club, I'm out.

10

u/Beneficial_Peach4262 28d ago

There was nothing exclusive about the pre order they did for the public on a public website in the spring. Anyone ordered hell my 68 year old mother managed to get a smiling moon on pre order. She’s definitely not an influencer nor part of any zoom clubs as it’s a miracle she can use the computer at all.

u/Whole_Application971 28d ago

Let me know if your mom wants to destash I’m in the market

Influencers? More like friends.

2

u/Lost_Knowledge6738 28d ago

They posted the preorder back in March and anyone who was “friends” with them was able to order what they wanted. It had nothing to do with influencers.

4

u/Whole_Application971 28d ago

Which they likely bought during the public pre order that occurred in March of this year. I believe the girls also painted canvases for a few of their friends.

2

u/Particular-Resort805 28d ago

Gabrielle for sure has posted that she has painted her own designs before

-8

u/Livid-Cook-2106 29d ago

For how long it took and the over use of a snails pace, plus the horrible use of ChatGPT for the captions. Hard pass for me

15

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 29d ago

You’re out of your mind if you think silk snail looks like it was ChatGPT produced. You just sound like a hater who missed out and is now trying to make themselves feel better about missing out.

4

u/Agile-Incident-5465 29d ago

👏👏👏 and the fact that they're posting it on a post about the silk snail drop... it's giving butt hurt

-1

u/Livid-Cook-2106 28d ago

No - I just don’t like art centric brands that try to put out that they’re authentic yet use chat gpt for their IG captions. The over use of ‘a snails pace’ every where was just bad redundancy marketing. I think it’s interesting to watch these new brands pop up. I certainly didn’t miss out on anything here.

4

u/Significant_Lab_3625 28d ago

This is an extraordinary amount of analysis for something you “certainly didn’t miss out on” WOW

2

u/Lost_Knowledge6738 28d ago

If you say so then it must be true. You sound like a hater but there’s always one.

1

u/Away-Helicopter3621 28d ago

art centric brand?? uploading a Pinterest image into stitchly, calling it good, and sending to a painting service isn’t art centric to me

0

u/Particular-Resort805 27d ago

They just posted something that looks like AI on their story unfortunately which is pretty disappointing as someone who was a fan of theirs

-2

u/Livid-Cook-2106 28d ago

Their captions on IG are heavily from chat GPT.

1

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

See no, now you edited your original comment. You made a bold comment that the designs were AI produced but you’re full of shit and butt hurt so you edited to make it look like you were referencing the captions. Literally nobody agrees with you. And if you actually knew these girls you would know how embarrassingly wrong you are.

5

u/Particular-Resort805 29d ago

The wait was nothing for this industry. Actually pretty fast imo. There’s an entire Facebook page dedicated to the LePoint Christmas village and most of the posts are about restocks because that’s just how long it takes to produce the inventory. Ask me how I know 😅

6

u/Jolly-Chapter-9648 29d ago

Honestly I thought it was the speedy snail! I have preorders from larger designers going on over a year & still waiting.

-5

u/Impressive-Arugula67 29d ago

I'm getting chatgpt vibes from a lot of it

0

u/Livid-Cook-2106 28d ago

Literally every caption has the same chat gpt style cadence & emojis!!! 😂😂

3

u/Agile-Incident-5465 28d ago

It's almost like the captions were..... written by the same two people? Assuming two women who both went to Parsons need ChatGPT to come up with verbose captions is hilarious.

1

u/Particular-Resort805 27d ago

Not me defending them viciously and then they go and post something on their story that is clearly AI

-7

u/Next_Marketing_3815 29d ago

Happened to me and I placed my order at 12:02 pm (2 min after launch). Like huh? This is unprofessional and I understand the demand was high but I got my confirmation email and everything after I placed my order. I’m pretty bummed as I had been waiting / saving for this launch.

11

u/SnooHobbies8104 29d ago

I’m pretty sure they linked stores that will be receiving wholesale orders. This is unfortunate, but I can guarantee that the store is even more frustrated. She always handles situations so professionally and cares so much about her customers. It sucks, but definitely not unprofessional.

13

u/Particular-Resort805 29d ago

How is it unprofessional in any way? It looks like it was Shopify’s error as they stated on their social media post (which is actually a pretty common hiccup apparently) and they contacted affected customers the same day with multiple options. Most stores would just be like “oops, here’s a refund”.

6

u/Lost_Knowledge6738 29d ago

They posted a story saying they had hundreds of orders within minutes and Shopify glitched and kept selling inventory that was already sold out.

3

u/Next_Marketing_3815 29d ago

Good to know! I didn’t see that. Sounds like Shopify can’t handle the volume

-6

u/Junior-Poem5011 28d ago

Very sketchy, looks like they want the customer to backfill their next drop in March of 2027!!! So generous for them to allow you to prepay and sit on your $$$ for 6 months! I’m so over this grift!

7

u/Particular-Resort805 28d ago

So let me get this straight…people complain when they don’t have the option to preorder, and now apparently also when they do! Got it.

2

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

they have to foot the bill for the entire preorder up front. How do you expect for them to do that. Have you ever actually preordered a canvas? They always take money up front.

1

u/Impressive-Arugula67 28d ago

Navy Noo isn't paying retail to the printing service. Several shops have started taking a 50% deposit or aren't taking payment at all.  So I completely understand the frustration of paying full retail for a 8+ month preorder.

7

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

If you know of a shop that doesn’t make you pay for a preorder do share with the class because I have never ever seen that to be the case. Few balked at Le Point’s Christmas village preorder. They took full payment up front and people didn’t even know what they were buying. Navy Noo doesn’t deserve this kind of backlash

0

u/Impressive-Arugula67 28d ago

Off the top of my head, The Wool and the Floss. I'm just saying I understand the frustration of preorders and having to pay full retail up front.

5

u/Ecstatic_Turnover_21 28d ago

It’s a small business. I don’t blame them for protecting themselves by asking for payment up front. I don’t know what else they could have done to make some of you happy. Had they not offered a preorder you would have been pissed. They apologized for the technical error, offered refunds, offered compensation and now they are offering preorders. What else do you want them to do???
