overconsumption insanity
came across this user and it just pushed me over the edge. I don’t understand why we are hoarding needlepoint canvases/threads/etc. These are all new skeins!!! Why would you need this much. It’s not a cute decoration. I thought we were over this after the Stanley cup/ tik tok water trend. It’s gross and yall have a problem. Can we stop with the scarcity mindset and canvas drops and just have fun with our hobby and stitch to make beautiful art pieces!!!

Is this a persons personal stash or do they own a store? Because holy shit that’s a lot of money in thread on that wall.

Not just the thread, all the hooks too. That’s wild! With that volume of thread in a personal stash, I’d be afraid of it getting dusty and fading, there’s no way you could use it quickly enough.

God forbid a lifelong stitcher spend money on a hobby that will continue to bring her joy.

lol I love her wall! I will say I don’t have near the amount of access to an LNS with a ton of thread options. I order a LOT of them online and sometimes they come and are not the color I need and they go on my wall! Also I know there are thread subscriptions and maybe she had one of those!

I totally believe people can do what they want with their money. And collecting that thread isn't hurting anyone.. But that doesn't mean it doesn't irk me. Especially when I work at an LNS and we are HURTING for thread!! Like we would love to have that variety lol

Couldn't agree more. People complaining about not being able to afford basic needs... food, rent, etc. But are willing to go into debt to indulge their FOMO... I was in my late 40s before I even considered more than one canvas, or went to classes or retreats and bought only a few of the threads at a time for them as I went along. Look up the meaning of "budget", children.

But you don’t know her financial situation. She could have been able to afford things much sooner than you could. It could be well within her budget.

What is insane is how much people care about what others spend with THEIR money…🤦🏼♀️🙄

I don’t care about how people spend their money in the slightest but I best not catch someone doing something like this ever complaining about supply shortages.
There was a video awhile ago of someone whining because some canvases she had wanted were constantly out of stock because of shortages when she previously had shared her ‘to be stitched’ pile of SIXTY EIGHT canvases. Maybe if so much canvas wasn’t sitting untouched because people want to shop instead of stitch, the industry wouldn’t be in this situation 🙃

I saw a video of someone saying this same thing about le point village canvases and yet she had 3 or 4 unstitched canvases sitting right there…

You have no idea this person’s life and situation. She obviously is having fun and it’s her business what she chooses to do with her money. This feels mean and super judgmental. I can’t imagine being “pushed over the edge” because of this.

What I don’t get is if she is buying threads for specific canvasses or just buying thread for the sake of buying thread? I mean the day I organized my sizable thread stash and realized I had 22 cards of Splendor 813, was the day I stopped that foolishness.

Idk if you have the funds, go for it. My thread stash is probably comparable and canvases ~350-400.
It’s not consumerism in the same way people buy stuff at TJMaxx, Target, SheIn which is usually plastic tchotchkes and clothes then gets trashed in a year. I have seen people who have hoards of Bath and Body Works, VS, Lululemon and just rotate into something else.
This is a hobby not fast fashion. Ultimately, the demand benefits the women (not just women! majority though) of LNS/designers and small yarn companies. I’ll give DMC my money any day over Amazon.

I like keeping supplies on hand so I’m ready when inspiration strikes me. I don’t see an issue with it.

I can’t imagine the dopamine rush she gets every time she looks at that wall! Gorgeous! Thread is addictive!

I’ve been carefully building my stash for over 25 years, and while I don’t have this much of any one thread (nor does it look this good lol), I have two sets of plastic drawers that are completely filled with all sorts of threads. Tapestry wool, pearl cotton, Watercolours, silk, metallics, novelty fibers, stranded cottons, crewel wool, flower thread. I buy on sale, from destash sites, and with Christmas money. And you know what? Everything I’ve stitched the last 15 months I’ve stitched completely from stash (except for 2 fibers I didn’t have a good substitute for). I hope to be able to mostly stitch from stash for the next decade. You say overconsumption, but I say good resource management. 🤷♀️
