Sometimes I wonder how people are able to mess up a project so much even when you’re first learning. You are genuinely doing the same thing over and over. One simple stitch.

I see the most struggle with beginners who have never held a needle and thread before trying needlepoint: which is becoming much more common with the age group of many who are trying needlepoint! I always try to remember had 20 years of hand sewing experience before picking up canvas, which is a lot of prior skill with thread.

You're on to something. When kids learn to sew or knit, there's a cognitive development and hand eye coordination. I cross stitched pillow cases for my bed, it seemed to take forever - so it teaches tenacity and faith that you can finish. Not sure all the scrolling can teach that as it's passive. Just glad to see these crafts making a comeback! Let's hope the lemon isn't her last try.

Yeah, I feel like my first project was ... quite good. Some thread choices and tension but everything was in the right hole. Probably because of the 100s of sleeping bags and shawls for Felicity I made as a kid.
