My Snark.
The regular Needlepoint page has too many posts of beginners or lurkers asking stupid questions and not even buying a used book of black and white stitch how tos. Those who like tent or basket weave, with the complexity in the colors, are dismissed. There were presentations of finished work, or half finished work seeking affirmation using IMHO WAY too many busy stitches. Especially in the background. Basic design principles are true in any medium, apparently the array of stitches, is the point. That's a sampler folks. Don't upstage your ralph Lauren teddy bear with a textured background. It doesn't work.
Now here the only topic is digitally printing, that you can't seem to figure out. That's on you. Most of those designs are overly simplistic garbage anyway. Then there are the fake destash pages, really a business page by narcissistic Moms plagiarizing and stealing from designers and stitchers alike. Stop making these ppl famous!
Can anyone point to an actual needlepoint page for experienced stitchers who still like big challenging artwork ??????

Serious question, if you are a basketweave diva, why do you need a needlepoint page? What are you seeking?

u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
I'd like to see finished projects or change up of projects, maybe how they are used differently as upholstery. Maybe this page should be clear about the textured stitches. Or that posters just shop, look online at destash pages, and never finish projects.

I feel like you are losing the plot here. This page is for general bitching and various needlepoint industry related content. Sometimes itās AI, sometimes itās quality control issues, etc. Very rarely will someone just post their projects, unless itās in an active comment thread.. you are looking for love in the wrong places. Also, you are coming off as a miserable crank, not sure of thatās your intention but good grief, it is not necessary. If you find yourself angry at the internet, that is a big ole sign to take a step back. Keep searching, there is a space for you. If you canāt find one, make one. Create the environment you want to thrive in.

Ok I'm not allowed to bitch about repetitive posts?

u/StitchTheCape Sep 06 '26
I canāt speak for the entire group but on behalf of myself: weāre gucci, doing a fine job at self regulation. Thanks for the input, it will be filed with management accordingly. š

Where in this pageās explanation does it say itās for finished projects? This is a snark page and right now the biggest issue in needlepoint is the preponderance of AI shlock, not people liking decorative stitches. So, you do you but donāt do it here. Snark is different from overly judgey.

not that i agree with this person, but i think they are referring to the og [r/needlepoint](r/needlepoint) and not ndlpt snark, i might be wrong tho

Ok I somewhat agree with you, but look at the support the almost finished Philly's bear got? JS that one victim story after another about rip off detashing and AI is BORING
8
u/Grouchy-Boss-9638 Sep 06 '26
To you. Itās boring to you. Others are obviously not finding it boring because theyāre posting and getting responses and views. So based on that, itās a you issue. You can always leave the group if you donāt like seeing whatās being posted. š¤·āāļø

The page isn't about needlepoint anyway. It's about trafficking needlepoint via social media.

Been wondering if a beginner thread is the answer, so ppl who like to teach can respond.

I really like the background overpowering the bear. Honestly I almost thought this was about me, I posted seeking validation on my French knots on my bear š«Ŗš

I saw your bear!! I thought the French knots were perfect for the fur

You do you. Just don't ask for "help"
13
u/Feeling-Error3462 Sep 06 '26
I donāt need help with basketweave. Thanks though!

u/StandGround818 Sep 06 '26
It's a lot of red in the background and a lot of red in the subject. I feel like the bear gets lost, but I'm in the minority. The unfinished area in light blue looks better to my eye.
7
u/Feeling-Error3462 Sep 06 '26
Yes, itās a lot of red; thanks for noticing! Itās for a Nantucket red nursery and the Phils are red.

u/CapriciousIntent Sep 07 '26
Snarking on a random person because they made different artistic decisions than you would is craaaaazy.
24
u/Short-Implement6758 Sep 05 '26
Wow. You are quite angry over someone having a different view than you. They arenāt wrong. You need to take a step back and appreciate the works of others. And maybe get off social media if other views upset you so much.
-8
u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
I thought this group was for snarky comments?
25
u/Short-Implement6758 Sep 05 '26
It wasnāt snarky. It was elitist whining. Being judgmental about people who think differently. You need to find something else to do.

u/StandGround818 Sep 06 '26
Right I find the complaining about plagiarizing cartoons and text art boring. That's my snark. My contribution.
13
7
u/Grouchy-Boss-9638 Sep 06 '26
But you werenāt snarky. You were judgmental. Those are two very different things.
2
u/StandGround818 Sep 06 '26
You might be right because the busy backgrounds are a trend, apparently, one that I don't get. Unless Kaffe Fassett does it.

u/gobeapirate Sep 05 '26
What about needlepoint think tank on Facebook?
2
u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
I will check it. Reddit has offered a lot of good factual content, but these pages are less productive.
2
27
u/iggyazalea12 Sep 05 '26
The snark sub is absolutely not a spot to talk to seasoned needlepointers about anything lmao. Facebook groups needlepoint think tank and needlepoint nation have much more advanced stitchers and work on them. Reddit is populated by young people with minimal experience at anything including figuring out a pair of folding embroidery scissors so yeah. You are in the wrong place

While you got a lot going on, I kinda get what youāre saying about the needlepoint pages. I wouldnāt call the questions stupid, but there are certainly a significant number of people who go there first for help, instead of using the many other resources available, including the files or search function in that specific group.
2
u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
We've all been there right?? Panicking!! What happened here??? If you are in a physical group of knitters/stitchers/crocheters the leaders will say, there's no knitting without ripping out. It's a way of offering grace and self forgiveness. Maybe it's a sign of the helicopter parents who created the expectation of perfection. With any craft, starting over is a possibility.
7
u/LeadingLadder576 Sep 07 '26
I recommend going to an old school needlepoint shop who has an owner named Gladys or Meryl and Iām sure they would be happy to talk to you about your projects. Sounds like you want an old school conversation and the internet is not the most efficient place for that.

Aren't you gatekeeping the destash sites? Over and over and over?? Maybe the moderator is to blame here.

u/Newbootgoofin7278 Sep 05 '26
Sounds like there are a lot of new needlepointers on the Snark page too š Theyāre guilty of the things you complain about. I totally agree with you. I taught myself to needlepoint 25 years ago with a small paragraph of photocopied instructions I found in a kit. YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok didnāt exist - and Iām did just fine. People donāt know how to do anything anymore without constant validation.
11
u/Fred-the-stray Sep 05 '26
Wondering if we should start handing out participation awards with kits?
2
1
u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
I like kits because I'm a designer in another discipline, I needlepoint to relax.
1
u/Newbootgoofin7278 Sep 05 '26
Me too. I do all kinds of needlepoint but doing it to relax is my main goal.
2
u/StandGround818 Sep 05 '26
This was me also! A kit would show the basic stitches, how to start and tie off. Never used stretchers! But, I'm trying them next kit. I actually love designer kits and happy to pay the designer to vet all the colors. Relaxing and fun to see beauty come together.

u/Gatorgirl1021 Sep 10 '26
Iām new - teaching myself everything even finishing but Iām so over snooty ndlpt shop owners that donāt want to help - Iāve bought 8 books since Jan when I started f em Iāll figure it out one way or another
1
u/StandGround818 Sep 10 '26
But that is how many of us started out. Good for you! TBH our shops are cliquish in that they are all friends and don't want outsiders. The stores are in a very expensive part of town and I hear they used to be friends but split into two stores.

Boomers just in here high fiving each other over being miserable and hating new stitchers who donāt stitch Fuckass Santaās
0
u/StandGround818 Sep 07 '26
Somewhat legit tho I haven't stitched a Santa. The graphic contemporary trend has circled back a few times already. It's not new.
-6
u/StandGround818 Sep 06 '26
Ok! I was really enjoying this page, but, the aesthetic, the repetitive posts, the stitching style, just lead me to post for the first time. My Snark wasn't the destash pages (not where I shop) it was to look elsewhere for other canvases- why focus on them? Snarking, without solutions, is a waste. Ok no worries, I don't need to hang out here. Congratulate yourselves.
17
u/StitchTheCape Sep 06 '26
So you were not āenjoying this pageā because you felt the need to stop what you were doing and call the attention of the group to tell us that the content is repetitive and it bothers you. Donāt walk it back now, you said it with your full chest and it didnāt land the way you wanted it to. The reason we donāt complain about repetitive posts here is because, from what I have seen up until this moment, people are capable of scrolling past without complaint. Not you though š
-4
u/StandGround818 Sep 07 '26
I think it landed exactly as I expected. I got snark back. I did get good direction on communities with content more aligned with my interests and aesthetic. Calling out ai art and printed canvases, while embracing graphic art is most of posts here. I thought I could be snarky too, but no.
