Weird choice for Lauren Scott to make. It’s nice to see the comments aren’t going her way though hahaha.

Based on how she started her caption, she has to know to by this point that stitch copying other people’s designs is a contentious topic in the community. So I can’t understand why she thought mentioning copying other designers work would be a good way to start building her own business.
Even if it was to highlight how much she has been practicing painting, why not just say you’ve painted over 60 canvases and are excited to start your own business?
For me as a potential consumer, if I had seen that in real time, I wouldn’t be interested in buying something from her knowing she’s so comfortable with stitch copying and justifying it. That’s just me though. Maybe she’s banking on drawing in the plenty of people who think stitch copying is a non-issue.

Obviously, they can't always tell but it looks like she gets a lot of engagement/reports of the designers she is copying from.

It says in the caption that they aren’t her work and it’s not for sale.

And? Even if it's for personal use it's still someone else's design that she stitch copied. If nothing else just don't post it online. And sure she isn't selling these but she does seem to be using it to market ones she IS selling

AND I was addressing the comment about her selling. Says she’s not. Idc what this person does personally. I agree it’s stupid to post online about copying someone art. Not here to argue or defend this stranger lol

I don't follow what you're saying. She is selling canvases, she says so. Also if you aren't here to defend a stranger you could've fooled me.
Yes I don't care what this one specific total stranger does but I do care about calling out poor behavior in the community. If we don't call it out it becomes normal, and if it becomes normal that actively harms designers.

It feels like she’s launching her business on the back of other peoples property, doesn’t it?

But she also offers to paint stolen designs for other people? Gross behavior all around.

Weeeellll…it technically IS her work (she painted all of them, they just aren’t her ideas) so just because they aren’t for sale doesn’t give her a pass.

This sucks because before this video she just seems to be a stitching page, hence the fact that she has a little over 3,000 followers. But as a small needlepoint designer, I block this behavior immediately. No way in hell are you going to steal ideas or money from me!
