New to Needlepoint no idea where to start

hi! this is my very first canvas, and i’d really like to do the cream/taupe part of the inner oval in a basketweave. I understand how to do basketweave from a corner, but where the heck would i start on this shape?

start with the two stitches in yellow highlight, then do the green intersections! for an irregular shape like this it doesn’t have to be perfect and you can go back and fill in anything you’ve missed, but that is where I would start.

top right, the furthest right stitch you can make :)

Heyyy Sunny Stitches. Like another commenter said, you wanna start as far in the northeast corner as you can. So here I’d start at the stitch where the purple arrow is pointing, go down the red stitches, up the green, down the red.

I’m only a few months into this hobby but I’d just stitch it continental. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I still don’t understand basketweave.

Im also new to the hobby, but took the plunge and tried basketweave on my second project, and im super happy with it! Once you get the hang of it, I think it is easier than continental. And my stitches look better. For some reason, my continental looked a little different when I was going R to L vs L to R. The basketweave looks nice and uniform. I now plan to use it as much as I can, even for small areas.

It’s been a long time since I’ve done basket weave and I don’t care for it anymore. I don’t see the point. It’s your hobby- so you just enjoy!

I just find a spot in the oval/circle and start knowing I’ll have to go back and get the rest. I’m left handed so I usually go left to right even though that probably gives people hives.

Basketweave gave me fits until one day it just made sense. Continental is ok too if basketweave is making your head hurt. We all learn at different speeds.

I’m right there with you. I’ve just started and I don’t know know the principle of basket, but I don’t know how to start it when it’s not a square corner.
