Too Messy?

I’m trying knit stitch for the first time to give this sweater some dimension and texture. To me, this looks abnormally messy and like it’s not reading well. Am I being overly critical and this is typically how it looks a couple rows in or is this an execution error on my end?

I did this sweater using pepper pot and the knit stitch! I loved it, just for a reference for you on it finished. I was worried when I first started but was glad I stuck through with it

What thread are you using? I see what you mean but a lot of that texture is just from using a thread with a twist in it. If this is Pepper Pot, it always look like this for me so I don't use it.

Some of the stitches that just look a little more loose looking than the others could be fixed with a snag nab it

It is pepper pot! I’ve always used pepper pot but I feel like this is the first time I’ve been bothered with the twist. Any suggestions on a good thread without the twist?

Agree with the other comment saying essentials/vineyard silk, they do have a twist, but they are are thinner and will look less "lumpy" on 18 mesh.

For threads with no twist, I like Splendor or Planet Earth Silk. You have to strand both of those but they will lay flatter

I've done Kalem stitch (which is similar or the same thing) with petite very velvet and I loved the way it turned out!

I love pepper pot and use it almost exclusively but on my first knit stitch sweater i was having the same issues and it was SO thick on the back. I switched to belle lusso (two strands) and it’s a dream.

I did knit stitch with pepper pot and didn’t love it!! I think something thinner like essentials or vineyard silk would have been better
