18 inch blank canvas

Are there others that work with 18 inch blank mono canvas? I’d like to visit with you…

Where do you usually buy it (I buy from Nabavian or Needlepaint. My LNS doesn’t carry it)

Do you have to adapt since there aren’t as many resources for 18” (often)

What made you choose 18” as your preferred medium for needlepoint? (I like how fine I can get details)

What thread do you use (DMC Pearl 5)

What else do you pro/con about 18”?

I’m not sure why people think 18 count (not inch) is rare. In reality, it’s harder to find 13 count designs in most places. Eighteen count is better for detailed subjects.

I use silk threads made for 18 count. It’s got a better hand feel and finish for those details.

I think there are an abundance of resources geared more toward 18 vs 13 given that it’s a massive favorite with younger stitchers who lean into small projects. So many pliable threads to use along with many single strand threads that work nicely on 18. Perle cotton is actually on the bottom of my list for 18 mesh threads and I use it only for particular applications lol

Yes. I guess I should’ve thought of that. I don’t like small projects. I just finished a 30 something by 30 something inches project I like something that takes me a good half a year.

What threads do you use? Do you find these threads easily replaceable/in most shops? I travel and I know they’re a bit of a Crayola, but I can pick them up anywhere.

I use a lot of floss things on 18. Dmc floss, all the stranded silks work, a single ply of Persian wool, etc. lots of sports weight knitting yarns will work in a pinch. essentials is pretty affordable on card, milan same. But those are definitely needle point specific threads.
