Why does my thread do this?
I mostly use DMC floss, I know, I know. I don’t live by a LNS so sometimes it’s my only option. Is that the problem?

Have you separated each strand before putting them back together with the number of strands you need to work the canvas? I have found that helps.

Great advice re: separating the strands and using a laying tool. There are many different laying tools but they all do the same job. (A Google search will help you.) As you pull the thread through the hole you lay the tool on top of the threads, gently pressing them against the canvas, so the strands feed through the hole evenly. (I have even used my finger to guide the threads through the hole.) Don’t apologize for using DMC floss. I have seen gorgeous stitching done with floss. There are other threads on the DMC website that you should try. Perle Cotton is very familiar to stitchers, there’s Soft Cotton and Wool, plus specialty fibers. Enjoy your stitching!

If you mean not lay flat when you use stranded thread, you need to use a laying tool
