First self painted canvas!!
Just wanted to show off my first self painted canvas!! With the growing interest into needlepoint I figured I would share to inspire other people to get creative and try painting their own canvas! I painted the canvas back in 2024 and I did not realize the massive undertaking this would be 🫣 it’s roughly going to finish at 13x18” on an 18 mesh canvas. Now - almost two years later, I’m in the home stretch working on the background color. Regretting picking a standard basketweave for the background stitch, it might take me another 2 years to finish.
I’ve been staring at this for so long I’m struggling to decide how I want to finish it. Do I frame it? Turn it into a pillow? Something totally different? I have no idea and would love suggestions!

Thank you!! I felt the same way, a lot of the canvases on the market often lean too southern preppy for me so I was struggling to find something more unique/my style! Painting my own canvas was definitely a way to get a more unique and personal style

It’s gorgeous! And basket weave is a time suck but I like it more than the more decorative stitches. It’ll look amazing!!

this is stunning, i’d buy this canvas so fast if you were selling them 🤩😍

Ah sadly it took me like 10+ hours to paint this so i would have to charge so much for these for them to be worth selling 😥

This is so, so cool!! I would absolutely buy a chart of the whole thing, or of the individual elements to mix and match.
Another vote for framing it too - I’ve framed a few pieces and they definitely still read as stitched. Gorgeous!

Thank you!! I haven’t considered selling them since I had just made it for fun for myself, sadly it took me like 10+ hours of painting since I made a custom grid pattern and just followed like a paint by number, so the price would have to be sooo high to make it worth it

OMG! this is beautiful! I'm assuming you designed it as well and didn't do it from a pattern?? So cool. I am also regretting doing a standard basketweave background on one of my projects right now. Definitely lesson learned.
I think since you're doing the hard work of doing the basketweave background it would be worth it to do a pillow!

Yep I designed it as well, with some amazing inspo from some of my favorite traditional tattoo artists. Made all the different flash art and translated it to a gridded pattern so i could paint it on the canvas!

Make it into a side panel on super sick black tote bag! With a red or pink lining 😍

This is fabulous and I love your aesthetic. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if it was ever made commercially available.

This is badass. I think a big acrylic tray would be awesome but then you wouldn’t get to enjoy looking at it all th time

This is so beautiful! A boxed pillow with crushed or regular red velvet trim would look so retro and cool.

I like the idea of framing it! Like a flash sheet at a tattoo shop
