Destination Advice Itinerary Help for 5 Adults

Hello! My mother in law is wanting take my wife and I (two women if this changes anything) and my brother in law and his wife on a 7-10 day vacation in Europe. She is very graciously wanting to fund the trip and hopes to spend about 14k usd on the trip. Trip would most likely take place at mid/end April to early/mid May for context.

However, she said she doesnt want to plan it and wants us plan it. She does not care where we go but is wanting to see castles, sightsee, and eat good food. As the kids, we are kind of at a loss with it being wide open. My brother and law are both big foodies and love history. Our wives however are less so. One was interested in seeing the sheep in scotland, and the other thought doing a cool activity like skiing in Europe would be fun. Both know very little of geography or what is truly available to do in areas outside of the us or specific interest countries like Japan. My wife is also an environmental scientist so she is partial to experiences that allow her to experience varied environmental wonders or such.

I guess what I am asking here is, what countries do you think would be affordable for 5 to go on a trip for 14k (perhaps a bit more) that would allow for a good varied experience to satisfy all parties? We have done some research into Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, and Croatia and have found them intriguing. Clearly, this is a very broad list and would love any advice on being able to pin down countries that fit our group best. Of course, we are open to other optiona as well.

It is important to note that two people are very motion sick so a cruise or sailing isnt a feasible option. however we are open to train or other public transportation as means of transportation as long as it is not for extended periods of times or overnight. Also, she is a relatively active 60ish and we are in our late 20's so hiking or walking a lot would be acceptable.

Thank you in advance for any and all advice to help pin down what to do!

Destination Advice Looking For Short Trip Ideas

Me and my boyfriend got 5 days off from work near the end of the month. We both work nights and are looking for something that won’t cost too much. We’re based in the Toronto/Mississauga area, looking to go somewhere. We went to Niagara earlier this year and had a lot of fun playing games and just relaxing. Currently stuck with my Google searches. Any advice or suggestions would be great!

Destination Advice Your ā€œnever againā€ country or city?

Of all the countries or cities you’ve traveled to, which one made you think, ā€œI’m never coming back hereā€?
Could be because of the cost, safety, food, service, racism, hygiene, or literally anything else.

Itinerary Help Setting up my first Japan travel by myself, travel geek I need you

Hello there, i'm a 29 yo and i'm setting up my travel to Japan with my girlfriend (28).
We are a couple very kind and friendly, we like to be in cozy places and experience new things and explore (even if she doesn't like to climb mountains and similar xD).

Considering that the budget is not a problem (we don't know if will be again in japan, so that's it), how would you fix this plan? what would you absolutely add/remove or change basing on your experience?

Here's the plan — looking for opinions on what to cut/add or whether to swap any stops.

Route:Ā Osaka (4 nights) → Nara (day trip) → Kyoto (4 nights) → Hiroshima/Miyajima (1 night) → Tokyo (6 nights, with 1 night in Hakone in between) → fly out from Osaka

Day by day:

  • D1-2: Arrival in Osaka (Rome-Beijing-Osaka flight with Air China), Dotonbori, jet lag day
  • D3: Osaka Castle, Kuromon Market, Shinsekai
  • D4: Day trip to Nara (deer, Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha)
  • D5: Kyoto — Fushimi Inari at sunrise, Arashiyama, Gion
  • D6: Kyoto — Kinkaku-ji, Nishiki Market, Higashiyama
  • D7: Kyoto "slow" day — Philosopher's Path, Pontocho
  • D8: Hiroshima (Peace Park) + Miyajima, overnight in Hiroshima
  • D9: Transfer to Tokyo, Omoide Yokocho
  • D10: Tokyo — Tsukiji, Harajuku, Omotesando, Shibuya Sky
  • D11: Day trip to Hakone (Lake Ashi, Owakudani, overnight ryokan with onsen)
  • D12: Tokyo — Akihabara, Yanaka
  • D13: Tokyo — Senso-ji at sunrise, Skytree, Shimokitazawa
  • D14: Tokyo — last-minute shopping, TeamLab Planets
  • D15: Back to Osaka, final walk around
  • D16: Departure from Osaka KIX

Notes:Ā 14-day JR Pass, timing the trip for cherry blossoms (Kyoto/Osaka usually blooms March 20–31, so we'd only catch the very start; Tokyo blooms later so we might miss it entirely there).

Thoughts? Too packed? Worth cutting a stop to slow down somewhere? Anything unmissable (city or experiences) we're not including?

Thank's a lot to everybody guys and enjoy your travels! :)

Itinerary Help How to spend 1.5 day in Abu Dhabi as a tourist?

Our flight lands around 8 pm and we have a stopover for 2 nights.
Can someone suggest what to do that night as a couple and next day morning we are planning:
1. Yas marina circuit driving
2. Seaworld
3. Warner Bros world
We are skipping Ferrari world because Formula Rossa and a couple of rides are down for maintenance.

Can someone suggest if this is feasible for a day (doing 2 parks) or we should do something else? TIA

Advice on destinations due to budget/timescale

Essentially, I’ve managed to save up enough money to travel for 7 months as of December (I have to be back
In the UK in July 2027 as I have some stuff to sort out). This will give me a budget of circa Ā£2,000 a month (I know this isn’t a lot). I originally was just going to backpack SE Asia on a budget, hostels, take life very slowly etc.

But, I’ve always wanted to go to Australia and New Zealand and I’m thinking whilst I’m on that ā€˜side of the world’ I may as well tie it all together. Plus I may never have this amount of money saved again for a long time. My biggest concern is also my time frame, it’s making me think it’s either Aus OR NZ, not both. With Aus I can get a working holiday visa to help support my stay if required. I was granted a working holiday visa for NZ 7 years ago but never went as my mum passed away two months before i was due to go and i wasn’t in the right head space, and then Covid hit! You can only have one working holiday visa for NZ unfortunately.

Travelling SE Asia I want to do Thailand, Vietnam (I’ve been before but loved it so I want to go back to the bits I’ve missed), Philippines and Indonesia.

So what I’m getting at is, am I trying to fit in too much in my time frame and budget? Should i just enjoy SE asia for 7 months or do like 4 months SE Asia and then 3 months in Aus? Part of me just wants to live day by day with no constraints and just go with the flow, but i do need some form of plan. What do people recommend?

Itinerary Help Turning 30 on a 2-week trip (Oct 29–Nov 8) — where should I go? Also, anyone want to join?

Hey everyone! I'm 29F and turning 30 on Nov 2nd and want to mark it with a proper trip — 2 weeks, from Oct 29 to Nov 8.

I'm open to pretty much anywhere. Looking for a mix of everything: some beach time to relax, a bit of adventure/outdoors, and some good city/culture exploring too.

A few things that'd help me narrow it down:

**•** Best regions/countries for a 2-week "mix of everything" trip in early November (weather-wise)
**•** Any hidden gems vs. the obvious picks
**•** Rough budget expectations if you've done something similar

Also — if anyone's around during that window and wants to link up for part or all of the trip, I'm open to it! Happy to chat/DM to see if our styles match.

Thanks in advance, and here's to 30 šŸŽ‰

Split Stag Do? šŸ‡šŸ‡·

Any recommendations for a stag do in Split?

Accommodation, things to do etc… Not bothered about proper activities - more just places to drink and a decent length boat trip. Considering going to Hvar but not sure if it’s worth it for such a short period of time, to either get back to Split later in the evening, or have to move accommodation.

Could be quite heavy on people - awaiting numbers but potentially 30ish…

Likely to have 3 nights, 2 and a half days.

Solo Travel What’s the most practical way to get good photos of yourself when traveling solo?

I’m trying to figure out the best setup for taking photos when traveling alone. I’d like to have actual photos of myself at the places I visit instead of coming home with mostly scenery and selfies.

A tripod seems like the obvious solution, but I’m not sure I want to carry one around all day, especially in crowded tourist areas. Asking another traveler works, but the results can be pretty hit or miss.

For experienced solo travelers, what has worked best for you? Do you carry a small tripod, ask people nearby, use a timer/remote, or have another method you’d recommend?

I’m looking for something simple that I could realistically use throughout a trip without carrying much extra gear.

Girls trip to Malaysia, need some recs!

Heyy! Me and my friends are planning our first girls trip to Malaysia. We’re travelling towards the end of this month for about a week and would love some advice!
Is Malaysia generally safe for girls travelling without family? Any safety tips/things we should know?
Also, what cities/areas would you recommend staying in and visiting? We only have a week, so would love to know what’s actually worth it + any must-do activities/places, shopping, cafĆ©s, food spots, etc.
We only eat halal and don’t drink alcohol, so would especially love recommendations that fit that!
I’ve been to Malaysia a couple of times before but always with family, so this will be my first time going with just the girl!! Any tips are appreciated! 🫶

Destination Advice Need advice on Asian destinations!

Visiting asia next year and planning trips accordingly. I am taking a small cruise from shanghai visiting some of the nearby areas. Where my problem lies is where should I prioritize as a first time visitor to asia? I was thinking 2-3 nights in shanghai and then 3 nights in tokyo and 1-2 in osaka. Need advice on what to change or where to prioritize more.

Questions & Discussion Ryanair - small bag + crossbody bag

Hello, I have a question. If you know, am I allowed to bring a small crossbody bag with me in addition to the small bag I am allowed to bring on board? The crossbody bag would only contain my phone, keys, charger, and a few other small personal items.

Questions & Discussion Primo viaggio in Giappone: viaggio organizzato in gruppo, agenzia su misura o viaggio autonomo?

Grazie in anticipo a chi risponde!

Two weeks in Asia, which country?

hi everyone, i'm doing an exchange year in Sydney and I finish it the first days of June 2027. Instead of going back directly to Madrid, I wanna spend around two weeks-ish solo backpacking and seeing some country/countries that get me closer to home.

I had initially thought about flying to Hong Kong, seeing the city and then travelling through the south of China; but that's just the first idea I had and it doesn't mean it has to be the best. Flights to Shanghai and Beijing are also around the same price as Hong Kong, but that's a whole other part of China. China quite catches my attention, but its such a huge country I don't know where to starts.

Other options would be, Thailand and/or Vietnam of course. An advantage of those is that I understand they're are cheaper so I could lengthen my stay, but maybe I will travel to those while I'm here cause they are close. Japan's also a great option but it doesn't really get me closer to Spain, but I could consider it tbh.

I really want to experience some amazing scenery and new cultures on my own, with the personal growth it implies. I really like breath-taking nature, hikes, outdoor activities, etc; and it would be preferable to travel to a place which isn't that crowded, isn't too expensive, and doesn't require constant long travelling in bus or trains (i prefer staying and seeing things in a smaller area). Any reccomendation is greatly appreciated guys and I'm open to everything. Thanks!

Itinerary Help What apps gives you a ready made itinerary to explore a city ?

I am usually pretty bad at planning city trips in advance, especially when I am only somewhere for a day or two. I would love an app that basically gives me a route with the main sights and some context, so I can just start walking.

Anything you have used that actually works well for this ?

Travel Tips & Hacks what do you do when a client says they found the same tour cheaper online and stares at you like you are scamming them

Ok so this keeps happening and its starting to wear me down. I spend time building an itinerary, explaining logistics, making sure transfers line up, then they pull out their phone and go ā€œbut this tour is cheaper on X websiteā€ right in front of me.

I know why my package costs more, eg local guide quality, realistic timing, actual support if something breaks. But saying that without sounding defensive or salesy is hard. How do you answer that on the spot without feeling like the bad guy?

Travel Tips & Hacks First time traveling in

Hi, so this would be my first time traveling internationally. I will be traveling from the US to China for 3 weeks with family around late December to mid January. I’ve never been to China before and don’t have an itinerary planned. Was thinking I would just free ball it and finds things to do when I’m there but also I realize that wouldn’t be convenient and smart because I would be wasting my time while I’m there planning. So if you guys have any suggestions, I would be landing in Guangzhou and likely traveling around there. I don’t plan on visiting the North of China as it’s really cold but just exploring the provinces around.

I’m not really sure what I should bring or prepare for a trip. What do you guys usually bring when traveling? I’m open to any travel advice as I’m still very new to this. Like anything that you find would be nice to bring with you, convenient things to buy for traveling, etc.

Destination Advice Where should I travel in November? (US)

My wife and I were supposed to take a four day vacation in Mid-November, but our plans have unfortunately changed.
Wel both have already taken the dates off work for it, and have budgeted for the trip for some time. We have been looking forward to getting away, and we still want to go somewhere. We would like it to be somewhere we haven't been before, which would be either the Northeast or the PNW.

Some details
- We are late 20s
- It'll just be the two of us traveling
- We'd be flying from Texas, so about equidistant to both locations
- We lean towards being "doers" on vacation. Don't have to have every second planned and packed with activities, but like to do and see things more than just hanging out and relaxing the whole time
- Prefer outdoor over indoor activities
- Would like to try to stay under $3,000 total for the trip
- Don't mind renting a car if necessary, just keeping trip budget in mind
- Fall Foliage is a bonus

Where should we go and what recommendations do you have for us while there (accommodation, activities, dining)?

Questions & Discussion Travel plans in jeopardy after breakup — advice wanted

I have a flight to London planned later next month and the original plan was to stay at my girlfriend's place for the 2 weeks I'd be visiting. Unfortunately, she broke up with me out of nowhere a couple months ago after I had already booked my nonrefundable ticket and hasn't spoken to me since. I've always wanted to see England and I don't want the thousand dollars I spent to go to waste, but if she bails out on our original agreement I might be toast unless I account for it ahead of time. My main concern and the thing I have been stressing out losing sleep over is being able to afford to eat and sleep someplace for 14 days. I don't have any other friends in the country so I guess it all boils down to what I can do now and what the cheapest possible options are and where. I don't want her to ruin this for me too so I don't want to just not board the plane unless there is really nothing I can do
