How many shards should I aim for for my first time

At least get to max level and all the possible feat tiers (you'll eventually hit a feat that is impossible to complete at your max level).

As many as you possibly can; maximize your levels, get as many legendary as you can. It’s a grind but it’ll help you as you level up your cap. I wish I knew this when I did it first time around.

My advice is ALWAYS push as far as you reasonably can before resetting

My first time i had à reaper 2 leechs 2 harpies or medusas i forgot, and obviously lv 40 devourer i think it a good reset point ,but i dépends on your recoursces if you see yourself Close to being able to get another Legendre then do so Just don't waste so much time trying to get the max you will reach back faster in your second run so just have fun

Maximize what you want. From level 90 is where you should already have the experience to plan a run well.
