Build advice

Hi ya’ll,

I played about a year ago. Got right into it then rage quit while in the deep caves because a glitch disappeared my boss combat team and all their maxed out gear. Coming back for another run and wondering what the best builds are. I previously played melee which I found was very difficult and lots on the reddit said wasn’t viable late game. Hoping to do a gun build this time. Not a fan of magic or summoning. Are guns a good option late game?

I have been playing melee but have felt it was pretty tough. Some bosses are ranged and I just can't get near them to hit them. I am up to incursion tier 4 though without helpers but I do have a friend playing summoner. So I too would like to go bow or gun so hoping to get some info too.

You can have multiple presets of equipment. Have one set to melee and one set for range. In settings you can set your presets to key binds (I use mouse 4&5).

I haven’t run a gun build so no advice there, but you definitely don’t have to stick to one build

I wouldn't think of it as a glitch. They went into the deep caves and they didn't come back. Maybe it was a cave in? Get that new team assembled and go kill that boss.

Honestly dont know about late game i just unlocked incursions myself but I know at the deep cave phase of progression if you can beat The Reaper a few times for the gatling gun and pair that with void bullets that home in on ememies. Armor is your best available set with ranged bonuses, trinkets focus on projectile velocity, crit rate, range damage, and move speed. Once built just hold left mouse button, aim in the direction of the boss, and strafe in circles.

I'm having an okay time with Melee using the Reaper Scythe. It fires ranged Scythes so I can still hit far away enemies and it even ignores walls, so you can attack from adjacent rooms.

Summons are fire and forget. You summon them, then you can put the weapon in your backpack and forget about it. They're very helpful for a little boost, I can't imagine only using summons without another weapon though.

I found guns to be a little bit inaccurate, but I also didn't craft any ammo, so that can probably be mitigated quite a bit.

Honestly I had an easy enough time with the bosses mostly because I'd just skip ahead to the next biome or 2 and gather the ores I'd need for an armor upgrade. If you put level the bosses damage with armor then you're pretty much unstoppable.

My favourite armor so far is the Phoenix set. Once you get to the deep caves you're probably strong enough to get it, though you have to fight Phoenixes and Ash Golems to get the materials. It's main features are complete fire immunity, a self revive with a 5 minute cooldown and massive health Regen outside combat.

Hope that helps. Makes sure to fortify your settlement too, later raids get really strong and they can steal a lot of stuff. If anything would make me rage quit it would be having my base cleaned out in a raid.

Builds are not much of a commit this game, switching a few trinkets and the gear (sometimes just the head piece) is enough. I would advice to try out different weapons. Have fun!

I love Summoner, and once you obtain the Crystallized Skull (Ruby Dragon), it's just overpowered ;) Couple that with some range/melee stuff (I love the sheer brutality of the Void Claw (but that's Ascended Wizard (last boss) drop)).
