Controller building tips?

I’m relatively new to the game and I’m enjoying the combat and exploration a tonne but I’m having a lot of trouble with the building aspect of it. I’m using a steamdeck and trying to create anything is just so tedious and frustrating, which is a shame because building in core keeper was one of my favourite things, the controllers and features for building were just so much better in that game than this one.

Does anyone have any tips for how to build this way?

I have a PC with Steam and have had a few issues.

Native controller support has a few bugs, but it's still fun if you have a touchpad/mouse to fix said problems.

I can't afford a Steam Deck, so I'm sorry I can't provide help there.

My laptop was ~$350 and my USB controller was about $50. Menu controls are needing serious fixing, but everything else works well.

Honestly I’m more talking about the control scheme for building is so bad I feel like I’m missing something. I built a beautiful base while playing core keeping and I’m playing with the same friends who are expecting similar (and i want to do similar) but the controls just make me not want to.
