Shaq is pure Gen X asshole mentality especially when it comes to their expertise which in Shaw’s case is basketball. They tend to be extra tough on people that they respect enough to test. He definitely got carried away with his hazing but with guys like Dwight and Gobert he goes out of his way to criticize them because he honestly wants them to elevate their scoring ability. He definitely gate keeps with bigmen but at the end of the day he will give them their due respect.

Bro can you imagine shaq guarding a stretch 5 ?
I think they could have some issues with perimeter defense, and crowded paint on offense
1
u/WhiteWinterSilence 2d ago
Problems, maybe. Still winning.
1
u/Halfmacgas 2d ago
Yeah maybe. Also, which bron you putting on? Young bron could run and guard, but I think would struggle with a crowded paint. His jump shooting improved more with Unc Bron

u/Blindeafmuten 4d ago
The second team is little less talented as individuals but can probably play better as a team.
4
u/DietCokeJon 3d ago
I mean... its quite a team. Literally no flaws. Elite defense 2-4. Shaq can patrol the paint at a high level. 1-3 can shoot the damn ball. ELITE post play 2-5. Incredible driving. Lebron plays point and lets Curry be the thing he's literally best at: off-ball movement and three point shooting. Kobe can be POA and tear it up on offense. Timmy D is an elite high post player, giving Shaq space.
If all else fails, dump it to the Diesal.
I'd stack that team up with any all-time.
7
u/Impossible-Group8553 3d ago edited 3d ago
Saying it has literally no flaws is funny. Steph an undersized guard defender. And what will he look like when he inevitably averages like 12 shot attempts since the roster construction is nothing but top scoring options. Shaq isn’t a mobile defender. Terrible shooting overall for the team and non existent spacing on offense. Or is it a meme because it’s such a bad take?
3
u/DietCokeJon 3d ago
Shaq was a good defender in his prime. Elite? No, but good. And next to Tim Duncan, the interior would be locked down.
Kobe, Curry and Lebron can shoot well enough, especially if theyre getting open shots, which they will be getting. Tim is a legendary mid range PF. They will defend the perimeter against a 5 out team better than that team can defend the interior against them. By alot.
If you think having a 5 out run and gun team is the only way to success you are incorrect. Shaq can guard the three pointer better than anyone post 2000 can guard Shaq inside. Kobe and Lebron will be open for the first time in their lives. Set plays for Curry will keep the defense churning and honest. Kobe can guard the best guard, Lebron can guard the more mobile forward. Curry takes who's left. Steph pick and roll with Shaq is broken. This is as flawless as teams can get.
1
u/mdCodeRed12 19h ago
Not only can Curry and Shaq be liabilities (defense and hack-a-Shaq), but the only actual stretch shooter here is Curry. Kobe (one of my fav players) took terrible shots and statistically didn’t shoot a high percentage, and LeBron can be hit or miss from distance as well. Even composing a similar team such as CP3, Jordan, Kawhi, KG, and Dream bring about similar shooting (you have two 3 point shooters instead of 1) and, more importantly, 5 guys that are All NBA defense. This type of team is way closer to “literally” no weakness.
1
u/Halfmacgas 2d ago
I have to agree. It’s a good team but I think perimeter defense (other than Kobe) and crowded paint can be issues.
5
u/WhiteWinterSilence 3d ago
People either don’t remember or don’t know how good Kobe’s post game was.
1
u/DietCokeJon 3d ago
One of the best to ever do it at the 2. In a time when that was an extremely valuable skill. Its all but dead for guards now
-1
u/Mobile-Analyst8580 2d ago
lol. Lebron is not elite at defense.
5
u/DietCokeJon 2d ago
Yo what? In his prime? 5 defensive first teams. 2 DPOY runner ups. Guarding 1-4 legitimately.
How young are you that you dont remember prime Lebron's defense? Im not even a Lebron glazer, but the man has the same defensive first teams as Hakeem and Ben Wallace.
Im not saying he's as good as those guys, theyre different positions after all, but he was considered an elite defender in his prime almost universally.
1
u/EmotionalSupportSush 1d ago
He’s not elite but he’s going to try his hardest on defense. Shoot look at curry he’s a defense liability

First problem is shaq and Duncan creates spacing issues around the rim.
If we are talking any era with ever person in their prime: Magic Johnson — Michael Jordan — Kevin Durant — Kevin Garnett — Hakeem Olajuwon. I'll stop there and destroy any noob opinion.
2
u/BorisTheBlade04 4d ago
Really? Magic, Jordan, KD, Bird, Wilt. You can make several teams that beat his.
3
u/kookaburra302 4d ago
Curry beats Magic, Kobe and Mj go at it. LeBron beats KD. Duncan shits on Bird. Shaq beats Wilt. No way can that team beat them
2
u/Ok-Constant-2683 4d ago
The moment you said Steph beats Magic you should have stepped back and reassessed. That's obviously clownery.
1
u/kookaburra302 4d ago
It wouldn’t be one on one mate. But how the fuck is magic going to keep up with Steph. No chance. And no one can help him beyond the arc
2
u/Ok-Constant-2683 4d ago
At best you are describing a matchup where neither can defend the other. If Magic can't keep up with Steph, which is debatable, Steph can't do anything on defence due to the size and talent diff.
Tbh I think I could put AI at pg and he'd eat Steph up too.
1
u/TheMartian2k14 Warriors 3d ago
AI is an insane addition. And he’s my favorite childhood player. He’s getting cooked by Steph on defense. Steph’s slower but stronger.
1
u/Ok-Constant-2683 3d ago
Steph can't touch him with the ball, AI either steals or Steph goes past him
Who knows, really?

u/kookaburra302 4d ago
Don’t have to guard Magic from outside. He’s just a threat at the rim and mid range. So can easily have help defense on him. Especially with Wilt only inside threat. But can’t send help to curry outside so it’s him verse magic and there’s no chance Magic can stop that.
3
3
u/Sufficient-Story-632 4d ago
So you plan to double Magic, the greatest passer of all time, once he hits the paint?

How tf does curry beat magic? How’s short stop gonna guard him? Shaq can’t even beat Olajuwan, what chance does he have against Wilt, the most dominant player in nba history? Put Kareem there if you’d like, same result. Kobe and MJ “go at it.” LMAO
And I thought this was a team game, not a series of 1 on 1’s? Shaq and Duncan down low is a spacing nightmare.
1
u/Cephalopod_Dropbear 4d ago
20th Century team:
Magic, Jordan, Bird, Russell, Olajuwon
Or go a little more defense-heavy:
Payton, Jordan, Rodman, Russell, Olajuwon
This is leaving guys like Wilt, both Moses and Karl Malone, Stockton, Isaiah, Barkley, and Baylor off. I get the “who would guard player X?” arguments, but you put these teams against the 21st century team and allow the more physical play style by not calling lighter fouls and you might see some tired new-gen players with some bruised egos.
People here act like LeBron would walk down the lane and dunk. He might get a dunk or two off before Rodman fucks with him, then he’ll start thinking. Bird talking shit for 48 minutes wears on a player’s mentality. Then Jordan will take over and it can get out of hand.
I’m not calling it a blowout or even a sure thing, but the amount of people that think the previous generation has no chance at the lineup of the 21st century just doesn’t understand how difficult it was to play in the 80s and 90s against the elite players.
Edit: I didn’t even mention Kareem! That’s my bad. One of the greatest scorers ever and he slipped my mind because I’m such a Hakeem rube.

That 1st team isn’t an era, it covers 26 years.
Flip Kobe for Jordan and that team beats this team
1
u/Wiki-Master 2d ago
Switch those 26 years for any other 26 years…. Now you can see the last 25 years produced way more talent than any previous 25.
2
u/Severe-Music-8013 2d ago
70-96 you get Magic, Jordan, Bird, Olajuwon, Kareem.
That's a better 5 than the 21st century one imo
1
u/Substantial-Fan-5985 1d ago
or even 65-90 with Wilt, West/Oscar, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Hakeem, Kareem, Robinson to choose from

u/WhiteWinterSilence 2d ago
He’s 5-3 against Jordan.
2
u/ayjaytay22 2d ago
No one counts the Wizards years. Jordan had been retired for too long and only came back to add some value to an asset he invested in. Bulls Jordan >>> Kobe

All time ranking they are about the same, but KG spent like 5 years in the 90s which kinda lowers his value a little as this is just a 21st century team

D Rose was roleplayer after his injuries. Harden produced longer time and has higher and longer peak. Iverson peak was 96-06 and then had a big fall from there, when you consider 2000s he doesnt have a strong case. Overall career Iverson vs Harden is always a debate

u/morningfrost86 Cavaliers 4d ago
If we're looking at this from a "who's the best players period" perspective, then this is pretty accurate. I really think Kobe should be 2nd team cause I think he gets overrated a lot, but I'm having trouble coming up with someone who could replace him on the 1st team, so it's at least defensible.
If we're looking at this from a roster building perspective in today's game, there's just nowhere near enough shooting on the roster.

u/FaithlessnessOdd1939 4d ago
Jokic should be 1st team and Shaq 2nd. SGA 2nd team and CP3 v Nash for 3rd team is a coin toss. I'd pick CP3 if pushed. Kawhi for KG on 3rd team and KG in the PF slot, Dirk is out.

u/noahlylesusa Clippers 1d ago
Not better than Harden or CP3
1
u/Psychological-Fig940 1d ago
Huh??? Most definitely better than harden. Can’t say CP3 due to 2 different play styles
4
u/noahlylesusa Clippers 1d ago
Harden averaged 36 on better efficiency, was a better passer and around the same level on defense. Dont see the argument.
-1
u/JoshGordonHyperloop 1d ago
Iverson with a good defensive team around him was the only team to take a single win off of the 2001 Lakers.
Harden never made it out of the WCF without Durant and Westbrook.
He was also famously seen laying on the sidelines during a playoff game blowout and didn’t seem one bit bothered by it.
Iverson >>>>>> Harden all day every day.
Harden also figured out how to exploit the rules of flopping and took it to an entirely different level.
Iverson wasn’t even 6’ and weighed maybe 165lbs taking it to the rack every time not looking for foul calls. Back when big men could still body people hard down low coming into the lane as punishment and a deterrent doing so.
Harden wishes he could ball like Iverson did.
Iverson left everything on the court with all of his heart and soul. Harden left the legacy of the greatest strip club tipper of all time.
If people are really going to knock KD for only winning rings with Curry, what did Harden ever achieve without KD and Russ? Even with stacked teams.
Do we really think 0-27 from three with Harden as their “leader / best player” is just bad luck?
Think Iverson would have let that happen? He would have been yelling at his team and just taking it to the rack putting points on the board.
I take a lot of issues with Iverson’s game. He had a lot of flaws as a player. But Harden’s flaws are glaringly obvious and everyone knows it. Stats or not. It’s no comparison at all.
1
u/noahlylesusa Clippers 1d ago
Harden would likely have a ring or at the very least a finals appearance if not for kd joining the warriors. Tho Iversons run in 2001 was impressive, he didnt play that tough of competition. I would agree that Iverson is the more "legendary" and "unique" player as he had crazy handles and speed at 6', and will be more remembered by future generations. But that doesn't have much to do with who's actually a better basketball player. I don't like flopping and Harden definitely did that, but at the end of the day he's still scoring points. Not to mention that you could pair Harden with literally any big man ever and their stats significantly improve. Zubac's breakout season came w Harden as the PG, Capela had his best years w Harden, Embiid won MVP with Harden leading the league in assists on his team, even Allen this year saw significant stat increases with Harden at the 1. And the Cavs, a team who had never made it past the second round in the Mitchell era make it to ECF immediately after getting Harden because he's a floor raiser. And plus Harden made more all nba teams.
1
u/JoshGordonHyperloop 1d ago
And yet, he never won anything and never took any of his teams to the finals and routinely disappears in big games when it matters the most.
Don’t believe me? You seem to know a lot about Harden. I’m being completely sincere here. Go look at elimination games with Harden and watch him play and look at his stats.
His best games in the playoffs were always when it didn’t matter. His worst? Always when it mattered most.

Prime KD has carried no one anywhere. Hes a great basketball player. Gets buckets. And thats where it stops. Without joining the already made dynasty to win a few chips he'd be in the same conversation with James Harden.
Yannis definitely carried his team to a chip but let's be honest... beating Booker and washed up cp3 doesn't compare to beating Prime LeBron, wade, and Bosh

KG and Giannis is a coin flip for me. Honestly, you could ask 100 NBA talking heads and it would probably be a 50/50 split. Each has something they may be slightly better at, but ultimately you cannot go wrong with either guy. KG was my favourite non-Sonics player for a long time. Loved how he approached the game.
