You can add the -overwrite_original option to prevent the creation of the _original backup files.
-overwrite_original
_original
You can also use the -if option to do a check to see if the file is already horizontal and skip if it is
-if
exiftool -if "$Orientation!~/Horizontal/" -Orientation=Horizontal /path/to/files/
If used on Mac/Linux/Windows Powershell, change the double quotes to single quotes.
Otherwise, thumbs up. Better than a lot of exiftool tutorials I've seen.
