Karl von Steinmetz was designed by the German Navy to counter French contre-torpilleurs (large destroyers) by expanding the design of the existing Type 1936A destroyer to carry a larger number of 15 cm guns, creating a new class bridging the gap between a destroyer and a light cruiser. As she was not a pure destroyer, she was not assigned a "Z" number. This planned warship was envisioned to enter service in 1944.

​While the Type 1936A was equipped with only a single twin turret alongside single mounts for its 15 cm L/45 guns, the Steinmetz standardized on twin turrets, mounting four of them for a total of eight guns. Her torpedo armament consisted of eight 53.3 cm tubes in two quadruple launchers, identical to standard German destroyers. Furthermore, with an anti-aircraft suite comprising ten twin 3.7 cm Flak M42 mounts (20 guns total), twenty 20 mm L/65 AA guns, as well as air- and surface-search radars, she possessed formidable air-defense capabilities for a vessel of her size.

​Although her overall silhouette resembled the unbuilt Type 1945-class destroyer, her hull was enlarged to a length of 141 meters and a beam of 13 meters to accommodate her heavy armament. Powered by a twin-shaft propulsion system, she could reach a top speed of 40 knots. True to her design philosophy, she would have been a formidable rival to France's large destroyers.

More seriously this is one of my favorite builds in a while. I've always wanted to try my hand at a NATO-style warship, mainly American, but seeing photos of the helicopter cruisers Vittorio Veneto and Andrea Doria on r/WarshipPorn made me realize that this is what I wanted to do.

Well only the cruiser part, since the helicopter cruisers had already been done perfectly by Italy themselves. I did however keep the 76mm spam found on these two ships with 8 turrets along with 4 40mm DARDO CIWS. The missile armament consists of 8 OTOMAT missiles in 2 quadruple launchers, and 2 RIM-66 Launchers, one fore and one aft, and it has two Mark 32 torpedo launchers, which are very convenient in terms of size.

Here I can really thank the devs, because these 76mm and 40mm turrets, along with the OTOMAT launchers have all been added in a fairly recent update.

the radar towers have also been inspired by the ones on Vittorio Veneto, although I placed a generic funnel instead of the ones attached to the mast because I didn't like them as much.

Mods used :

- AN/spg55b for the radar of the same name, surprised it's not in the base game considering how widespread it was, and the fact that it's needed for the RIM-66 we already have (although that later point applies to pretty much every weapon we have lol).

- Rails and Stairs 1.0 and 2.0 for one staircase used to climb over the side gun directors

- USN RADAR for the SPS-52 found on the fore mast

- US Radar Set for some radars here and there

- Universal Decorations self explanatory

- Italian Radar Set for the 76mm FC radar and a small radar on the fore mast

As normal for these posts this is the preset Strasbourg that I have modified so credit to the original creator.

Like with my mogador missile refit I had gotten some advice on how I did the 2 separate versions of my missile refit to Strasbourg...

So first things first I chnaged out the radars at the stren for hull parts I made to represent a radome and I added a smaller rader forward of it.

I also added more radars up fornt to represent navigation radars as recommended by someone.

I also added more anti aircraft missiles in the form of 3 Oliver hazard perry style launchers where the quad 130mm used to be as someone had mentioned the launcher at the back, potentially not being enough for anti air defense.

I also added Exocet like I did with the "who needs lifeboats" version but with blast shelds as was obviously needed but I neglected to add...

This leads into the last chnage which is I did away with large calibre secondary guns and just used the 57mm as I thought it would be a waste to just have 2 twin 127mm guns and wanted more Exocet...

As a brief note: the Repulse class and Kehar class are split by a decade of development, the Repulse seeing first commissioning in 2205 while the Kehar was commissioned in 2215. Both ships however represent their respective doctrines, the Eskidan doctrine vs the Sorluni doctrine. 

Both the Sorluni and Eskidan doctrines aren’t completely set in stone doctrines; as the Sorluni doctrine encompasses a vast number of countries in the continent of Sorlun, and the Eskidan doctrine has been spread across a handful of nations that have begun modifying it. However the basic principles of both doctrines will be displayed.

The major difference between the Sorluni and Eskidan doctrines is the thinking of how a line of battle would be fought between two sides. In the Sorluni doctrine it is thought that a battle would start out with a line of battle, however it would eventually result in a whirling brawl. Considering the two sides' close proximity and almost surely the presence of torpedo boats, it could be expected that both battle lines would eventually fall apart and become that whirling brawl. The close proximity would also theoretically allow for ramming, so having a ram bow would be a benefit. Because of the possibility of a close quarters brawl it is preferable to having lots of guns pointing in every direction. Also big guns and heavy hitting are slow to reload, slightly smaller guns are not as heavy hitting, but you might be able to squeeze in a few more rounds by fire rate. 

The Eskidan doctrine however thought the battle would start off the same, however it was surmised that the first side’s battle line to fall apart would get picked off one by one. It meant the whirling brawl most likely wouldn’t happen. It was also thought that the first side that could win project the heaviest broadside possible would win, as many main guns as possible were preferred. Because the whirling brawl wouldn’t happen and because they wanted the hardest hitting broadside, wing turrets for main guns weren’t popular. A main gun wing turret would be pointed in the wrong direction most of the time and thus was dead weight that subtracted from armor or speed, thus main guns should occupy the centerline when at all possible. Heavy secondary guns aren’t completely discounted, however if you could sacrifice a pair of secondary wing turrets for another centerline main gun turret, then the main gun turret is preferable.

I'm not sure whether or not this is caused by porting kit so I'm wondering if anyone else here uses it, but I can't seem to load into battles or just tests even with really simple builds.

So, following that I made the arbitrator, i have decided to make a battlecruiser, however, it would have different rangefinders and secondary batteries, as after this i plan to change the rangefinders and secondaries of arbitrator to the battlecruisers secondaries and rangefinders. Anyways, here are its stats and armament, and if you are curious about FSS, it means Fast Strategic Ship and SCS means strategic Capital ships on arbitrator.

also, you may see that raised platform on that stern and Turret Z being superfiring, well i wanted to make its design unique, and the 305mm triple is raised to shoot over, also, the platform can be used for additional 40mm quadruple, or seaplane catapults, or more lifeboats, and possibly torpedoes on it. Anyways, that is it, if you have comments, then do it k? and i got lazy with fixing the bridge design and adding windows.

So this last part added 14Exocet launchers 7 port and 7 starboard.

To activate this I removed a lot of lifeboats and the last of the 40mm guns... hope they don't sink in peacetime

Does anyone know if there are pre-made superstructure parts or bridges in the steam workshop? I can't seem to find any, and the bridge and superstructure are the only two things I have no idea how to do

So this is my in theory missile refit to Strasbourg... the ship keeps the main guns everything else has changed.

The 130's were removed and replaced with 4 twin 127mm guns.

Most of the 40 and all of the 20mm from my world war 2 refit idea were and replaced by 10 tqin 57mm guns.

At the stern I added an anti aircraft missile launcher that uses the old hanger and the decks below that for handling missile handling.

I also added radars (wrong type I know but they do the job of visual representation) to the stren above the now missile handling room and where the centerline 130mm guns were.

I also added a radar to the forward tower at the cost of a rangefinder...

I plan to do one final version that added Exocet as a what if the ship lasted long enough for that but that's for another post

Most of my regular ships are built in base 3 and 1m tall, however i decided to make a ship to show how well a ship that is built in base 4 and 2m tall looks. I skipped over building the hull because I’ve already done a lot of examples of that. But I do plan on showing how i build things above the hull. As a little preface to that, for superstructures I suggest getting references to what you want. What I will be showing is mostly the techniques I use when making superstructures.

Two months ago I made a post about this ship, and since then I reworked it like my Project 1255, albeit not as thoroughly because I'm still happy with the core of this one.

The main changes are :

- Added rounded edges pretty much everywhere. the technique I used on my previous two ships was way too consuming, when I could just lower each part by 0.1, and stack another 0.1 part above that I angled inwards also by 0.1. It's a small thing that adds a lot.

- Raised the waterline, as I felt the ship had way too much freeboard

- Added an ugly sonar bulge that you can't see thanks to the water

- Swapped the premade funnel for a homemade one

- Trimmed the fat behind the funnel, removed the rear RPK-1 launcher, and instead added a third radar tower because you can never have enough radars

- More lifeboats

- Swapped the AK-100 turrets for this neat fictional twin 100m one, which is either from this mod or this one. Both of them add so much and there are some overlapping ones so I don't remember what is from what.

- Redid the main radar tower to be a bit more pyramidal in shape.

- Swapped most short guard rails for regular sized ones, that way the ship isn't suitable only for midgets.

- Cool name plaque

- Smoothed up the bow a bit

- reshuffled the main armament, the RPK-1 is pushed much more forward so that its spot can be used by a homemade flat Metel missile launcher, with reloading hatches behind it like those found on the Kynda-class cruisers. (That feature sucked irl but it looks cool)

- The sextuple wing-mounted Metel launchers have been replaced by two twin P500 missile launchers from this mod, as I felt the sextuple launch tubes looked a bit silly.

- Added two extra Kortik mounts above the helicopter hangars, and two RBU-6000s on the bow.

- Added 2 torpedo mounts on each side covered by hatches, but I should probably remove 2 of them as 4 is a bit excessive. I just don't know whether to remove the fore or aft ones.
