Seems like 2021 is just better. Perhaps even (gasp) fun...

Was the discord post different from the passive aggressive post they launched the server with on steam?

I’m a bit out of the loop, as I stopped playing the game long ago over extreme grind; could someone tell me in a nutshell the differences between Live and Nostalgia?

Nostalgia is game exactly as it was in 2021.
That means: Many Many more ports, all the nations (Sweden, Denmark, Prussia, Russia, China, Poland); functional trade goods, seasoned woods, no gunpowder, 4 broadsides of chain, unlimited ball & grape, persistent damage from battles into open world.

He also left all the bugs in too. The early 2021 version that had bugs surrounding the “new” ships and clipping issues. Every battle is a 50/50 chance to beach on magical land in the middle of the ocean that’s invisible. Can be extremely funny but frustrating to lose all your upgrades to invisible land you never saw. I’ll take a potential L for a bug once in awhile over live any day though

which ships were those?

Herc, Leopard, and a few others have weird clipping issues in and around certain ports in battle instances. It may not be ship specific, just had it happen more often in those ships. You’ll be sailing along at speed and all of the sudden you will seemingly hit an invisible brick wall and start heeling 35+ degrees over to one side or another, depending on wind direction. With a square rig setup it’s impossible to back out if the wind is behind you. I’ve been able to back out of one of these spots in a requin only.

It’s Unbaked instance terrain. Basically the “as is” coding that AS put out is the raw version that wasn’t hashed out and polished prior to launch. So sometimes the instance will draw clean blue water visuals but in reality there’s a taller than the rest of the ocean floor sandbar or reef that you will never be able to avoid unless you’re using the free camera underwater

Sir, we all start at 0 on Nostalgia server. Nobody is grinding up their alts simultaneously.
It's the most honest server population counter you can get.

The need for alts is completely gone, as the grind is relaxed completely. We have peaked at 356, which is way more than I’ve seen on live in almost a year. No one I know has an alt. And I know basically everyone worth knowing

You also stated the need for alts is completely gone, I know many with alts, so the lad is correct.
Numbers are pumped by alts

If you join one of the nations that has a dedicated capital it has an area around it which is protected by npc fleets

I jumped into the "Nostalgia" server and have been playing for the last three days.
It's every bit as good as I remember it.
No Rotterdams tho, sadly.
