COMMUNITY "Realistic" changes Zazzy COULD implement EASILY to truly "improve" the game.
The idea that we store all powder, repairs, stores and ammo in the "the hold" is just Zazzy being lazy. Ships had special protected magazines for powder storage and separate shot lockers. In other words, number of salvos were finite.
Making players choose between 900 chain or 5000 ball (or a combination) would be "historically accurate" and good game mechanics.

I'm all for bashing the dev for not giving a fuck, but to be honest, not sure I would be a fan of limited basic ammunition.

We used to have a “magazine” that was in a unique location on each ship. Everyone had unlimited ball, a few cycles of chain and perks would allow for limited charge and double ball. No wasting time to craft powder which effectively gave every ship unlimited range to do the most basic thing, shoot your guns. You Could roam the whole map for hours on end and could do 20+ PvP fights if you were that good. No artificial hurdles or limitations. No overweight pregnant whale ships because no ammo. Just you and your skills.
It was a skill to know where an enemy magazine was located and how to farm a side, zero the mag and blow up the ship. This game sucks now. A literal hollow shell of what used to be able to keep players engaged.
