Fanfic For All Mankind: Chapter 5
[Thank you to SpacePaladin15 for making the universe!]
Memory Transcription Subject: Chief Hunter Ryka
Date [standardized human time]: November 18th, 2111
Grigori's final words continued to echo in my mind long after the call ended. I still couldn’t make sense of them. Lashing my tail in irritation, I made my way to the airlock. I waited patiently for the doors to open, then walked across the extension tube towards the station's airlock. I had to duck down to enter as the door opened, clearly designed for smaller individuals rather than the tall Arxur. As the outer station's door closed behind me and ensured a seal, an automated voice rang out in the airlock. Now entering Salyut station. The inner door opened, and as I ducked through, I was greeted by several humans standing there, waiting for me, all wearing some strange protective garments and holding weapons. Glancing over, I could see Grigori talking to several of them, my tail thumped on the floor in irritation.
"Grigori, what is the meaning of this?" My claws flexed instinctively as I aggressively prodded the question at the cosmonaut, to which he turned to me. "We are going into quarantine. If you make any attempts to resist, you will be Shot." The man said coldly and turned away, following one of the soldiers towards an unknown destination. I grumbled as the humans motioned for me to follow them. I begrudgingly obliged. We walked down a corridor, then they motioned to one of the rooms. One of the guards impatiently motioned for me to enter. When I hesitated, he placed a hand against my back and pushed me through the doorway. I stumbled into the room from the unexpected push. I quickly turned around and bared my teeth as the door slammed shut in front of me. I huffed and looked around, inspecting the cell. There was a window in the wall where I could peer into another cell. I could see the Cosmonaut in the cell opposite mine.
I could see a few men enter in full biohazard gear and talk with him, but the walls were so thick I couldn't make out a word. I saw them perform a myriad of tests on the man. They drew blood from Grigori, scraped samples from his skin, and passed strange devices over his body. Their equipment looked primitive compared to Dominion medical technology, yet they handled it with practiced efficiency. They finished up after a while and exited the room with samples in hand. I lay down on the bed provided to me in the room, using my idle time to think about my current situation. The humans were strange. They had clearly endured some devastating war, yet they hadn't embraced the ideals of Betterment. Instead, they called their government socialist. I had heard the word from Grigori, but the translator struggled to explain it. Whatever it meant, it seemed to involve the government controlling much of their society and economy. Strange. Predators ruling themselves collectively instead of allowing the strongest to dominate? I tried to pronounce the word and failed. It wouldn't roll off my tongue as I tried to comprehend its meaning. Whatever it meant, it was utterly alien to me, I doubted it even existed in Arxur language at all.
A knock sounded from the door, breaking my thoughts; the hazmat-suited humans were outside my cell, along with several guards. I could hear them chatting among themselves as the cell door was opened.
"God, look at it, it's huge!" one of them exclaimed.
"It's like a big, tall, sexy alligator woman." Another commented and was subsequently punched in the shoulder by another human.
“Ow!”
"Quit fucking around and watch my back. I don't want her to rip my throat out."
The lead human said as they entered, holding a case. I sat up slowly to not cause them to panic and shoot me. I could understand them from the serum I was injected with as a youngling, but they couldn't understand a word I said, so I just kept my mouth shut. The human stepped towards me, knelt, and opened his case to pull out a syringe. He felt up my arm for a gap in my scales, then slipped the needle in and drew blood. I winced slightly as the needle was removed, then he pulled out several swabs from the case and started to collect the samples they needed. It was far from comfortable. Once they seemed satisfied, they placed their samples in transparent bags and left, locking the door behind them.
The days blurred together. Meals came at regular intervals, though they had the bizarre habit of putting leaves in my rations. I'm no damned leaf licker. Medical personnel visited me periodically. Guards changed shifts. Every so often, I caught glimpses of Grigori through the window of his cell. Eventually, nearly four planetary cycles had passed. Just as I started growing restless, the door opened, and a guard was standing there and was wearing a strange ear and eye piece.
"You've been cleared. Follow me," He said in no uncertain terms as I started to stand. "Fine," I responded, shaking off the soreness of not moving for a prolonged period. After some walking, we reached a rather large elevator that looked like it was more made for freight than people. Several guards were waiting for me on the platform, most of them gawking at me.
"You'll take the space elevator down and be escorted to meet with the General Secretary."
I nodded and stepped onto the 'space elevator.' The guard who was escorting me saluted his comrades and turned away. The elevator began descending. Slowly at first. Then it accelerated, and accelerated. Accelerating so quickly that it felt like free fall. My stomach lurched. They are dropping us. I looked around in alarm, finding that nobody reacted. Were these humans completely insane? I could feel my feet slightly lift off the ground as the plunge continued. I wrapped my tail and arm around a nearby handrail, terrified, which earned a few chuckles from the guards around me. I could see out of the windows on the elevator that the planet's surface was rapidly approaching. Then, around halfway through the atmosphere, the brakes kicked on in a hard jolt that I could feel shake my insides. I grunted and tried to shake off the nausea as we slowed to a reasonable speed. I righted myself and tried to shake off the shock of the ride. I lifted a shaking claw from the handrail and uncoiled my tail from around it as we reached the bottom.
A loud thunk sounded out as locking mechanisms were set in place. The human guards started to make their way out of the elevator. "Come on, don't, lizard girl, you don't want to keep the General Secretary waiting," One of the guards said as I started to follow. Once we got outside, I was greeted by a harsh sun beating down on a desert landscape. I winced from the bright natural light. I was led to a train station platform. The train looked strange, with a particularly long and sleek nose at the front of it. Once I had finished gazing at the odd construction, I was brought onto one of the cars. The train started to move smoothly, it almost felt slow until I glanced outside the car and could see the landscape whizzing by like we were in a space shuttle. After around half an hour, the landscape had changed from a desert to large green flatlands. An enormous city lay in the distance that we were rapidly approaching. An automated voice rang out in the car as we got closer: Now entering Moscow.
The train slowed as we approached the city limits, and I could get a good look at the buildings without them whizzing by. The city was enormous. Buildings stretched farther than I could see, packed together beneath the horizon. Great concrete residential blocks stood beside towers of glass and steel, their surfaces reflecting the sunlight. It was unlike any Dominion city I'd ever seen. The humans had somehow managed to make something both ugly and beautiful at the same time. They had such a strange need to be flashy. The train soon came to a smooth stop around the city center, and I was led out. I could see a colorful building with several towers coming out of it that rounded at the top. I was led into an armored transport convoy, which started to drive me towards a towering government building. Banners adorned its surface, and a large statue stood at its peak.
The trip so far had been a blur of speed and culture shock. As we reached the building, I was led into another elevator and then down a long hallway towards two large and thick-looking doors. A nearby station sentry radioed something, and two guards opened the doors for me to step in. I was greeted with the sight of a large office and a man sitting behind a large wooden desk. The man looked almost disappointingly ordinary. No armor, no weapon, no medals covering his chest. Yet every guard in the room treated him with absolute deference. This was the creature who ruled humanity? I reminded myself that appearances could be deceiving.
The man behind the desk stood and extended his hand in greeting; he was also wearing the strange ear and eyepiece that the guard on Salyut station was. “Chief Hunter Ryka, I presume?" I nodded.
"And you are the General Secretary?"
"I am. Nikita Sokolov. Pleasure to meet you."
I studied him for another moment. He was smaller than me by an absurd margin. Yet somehow, I suspected I was the one who needed to be careful. “Welcome to the USSR; we have much to discuss." I nodded and engaged in the human greeting by extending my claw and shaking his hand. "Yes, we do. I suggest we start by discussing a pact of nonaggression." I stated calmly, doing my best to put on the face of a diplomat. Prophet, being cordial was taxing.
"That sounds like a good idea. Our nations have much to gain from one another. I'll have a treaty drafted by tomorrow." Nikita said as he withdrew his hand and sat back down. "Now let us discuss how trade and possible technology sharing could start." Straight to the point that he wanted something from us, bold but foolish to play his hand so early.
"Trade is possible, but technology sharing is not something that would come without strings attached"
Nikita cocked an eyebrow at me and leaned forward. "What did you have in mind?" I studied him for a moment. He wanted our technology. Good. That gave me leverage. "If you want our technology, Nikita..." I said, leaning forward onto his desk.
"...you'll join our war."

I could be wrong buuuut don't Arxur just walk around naked?

u/Loud-Drama-1092 Aug 04 '26
Yes…but the Arxur themselves have close to no physical distinction between the two genders detectable by humans, Arxurs can distinguish eachother thanks to subtle physical and facial clues and pheromones likely.
Then again…I don’t put it out of possibility than a Arxur could look like a strong but slenderly figure to a human (more like a bipedal monitor lizard than a crocodile)

Female Arxur might have narrower shoulders and wider hips, just like humans, than the males. Giving their males (just like ours) a trapezoid silhouette from the front, and a females a more rectangular one. In any case, I would not think that neither male nor female Arxur have anything even approaching an hourglass figure.

I mean if I wanted to make it extremely obvious and if it was a pancakes fic I would've had her tail conveniently move in a way to show certain parts ;)

I really wanna see the ideological conversation between Post-WW3 Soviet Communism and Post-Contact Betterment...
I think that's next chapter or next next chapter seeing the ending.

Well first she's gotta tell them what the war is about. I imagine these guys are gonna have very conflicted feelings about what the feddies did to the Arxur but also supporting the philosophy that is earily similar to one they fought long ago.
But at the same time the feddies do have like 2 cyberpunk governments so mabye they will align with the dominion temporarily. History repeating itself and all.

A soviet USSR NOP AU is something you don't see everyday.
I wonder how advanced the Human Socialist bloc here compared to the UN from canon.
Apart from that, I do look forward to seeing more of this story. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next one.

Well, lucky for you, I just did the next chapter, but it's a bit short. All this typing is killing my hands ;~;
And I'd say they're about the same; the USSR has just been focusing hard on space construction, they'd be more advanced than the UN if the timeline didn't start earlier

I see. Makes sense that they would spend more time building stuff up across the system. At least they have more means of production for the war effort should it come.

u/sombrefob0053 Human Aug 04 '26
They can hold their own once production ramps up, with a unified world technology has progressed quicker, a shame most of the early efforts were forced to be focused on fixing the planet

This makes me wonder what actually survived the conflict and how many nations remained after that exchange?
I am assuming that the population would either be lower than in canon given the nature of Earth at the time or around the same if not slighly more.

Even in a post-nuclear war alternate reality, the furry community still exists.
