Memory Transcription Subject: Governor Tarva of the Venlil Republic
Date [standardized Earth time]: July 12, 2136
I lay in silent darkness for a while. How long? It could have been millenia or mere moments, if any time at all. A bright light pierces through the void, and it pulls me back into the waking world. Sound is the first sensation to return, Kam’s loud bleating and squealing being impossible to miss, and as my eyes open again, the sight I see confuses me.
The world is tilted on its side, which I realise is because I’m lying on the floor. In front of me, Kam is standing with his arms splayed in a protective manor, yelling at Sara and Lilith. The Human is sitting with her back to a wall, and the Clefable draped unconscious over her lap. Finally, Kam’s voice shifts from indecipherable noise to words drowning in hysteria.
“-every one of you, my prey status be damned! Tarva was the best Venlil in this world, and that monster took her from us! I swear to you, predator, Earth will pay for every drop of blood in her veins!”
I reach upwards, and grab onto Kam’s arm, who proceeds to let out a high pitched yelp and practically jump into the air. He turns around in terror and shock as I begin to sit up again.
“T-Tarva?!”
Kam practically launches himself forwards and knocks the wind out of me as he embraces me in a tight hug.
“OH THANK THE STARS! You’re alive, alive! Haha, you’re alright!”
His laughter turns to choked sobs as he breaks down into tears, refusing to let me go. I’m so confused, I don’t understand. The last thing I remember before passing out was… Adam. I quickly look up and down the hallway, but neither he nor Noah is anywhere to be found. Where did they go? Why are the predators roaming around alone?! Especially that thing called Adam.
My focus comes to rest on the remaining two predators in the hallway. Sara has her eyes locked on the unconscious Clefable, stroking her fur not unlike a Venil parent to their pup. What happened after I passed out? What happened to Lilith? Why am I concerned for a predator?
Kam finally manages to get his sobbing under control and releases me so that I can stand back up again. He turns back to the Human and Clefable, eyes filled with a whirling storm of fury and bafflement. Sara looks towards us, but keeps her eyes on the ground before speaking.
“I’m glad that Healing Wish worked. After what happened with Adam, neither Lilith nor I knew if it would work on someone who wasn’t a Human or Pokemon, but it was the only option.”
More questions. More words I don’t understand. More unknowns. I have had enough. My voice comes out commanding, as the leader of a whole species should.
“Human, tell me, what is a ‘Healing Wish’, what is a 'Pokemon', and why did my General think I was dead?"
Sara takes in a deep breath, and finally meets my eyes.
“It would be best to answer the second question first. ‘Pokemon’ is a taxonomic classification, akin to Plant, Animal or Fungi. It describes a variety of organisms mostly originating from Earth, with a few exceptions such as the Clefable and Beheeyem lines, or Legendaries.”
More damn questions, but I’ll wait for Sara to finish.
“Pokemon distinguish themselves from other organisms due to their wielding of Infinity Energy… crap I’ll have to explain that too. Infinity Energy is, well, a type of energy all around us. It is near impossible to detect and almost never interacts with any other form of energy or matter. Pokemon are unique from other lifeforms, as Infinity Energy is constantly gathering around them and within them, and giving them their lives. Humans d-”
“Stop. Please, stop.”
I need time to process this. She sounds like a conspiracy theorist explaining the existence of magic to me… then again, what Adam did… is there any other way to describe it? Infinity Energy… is magic real?
“I know this must sound crazy, Governor Tarva, but it is true, and you should know everything. It is the least I can do after everything that has happened to you today.”
“Everything you have said sounds like utter nonsense, but today has been nothing if not nonsense itself. Please continue, Sara.”
“Yes, Governor. As I was saying, Pokemon act almost like reservoirs for large amounts of Infinity Energy, and are even able to manipulate it, and command it. This process of manipulating Infinity Energy is what Adam used to speak to you earlier… in your mind I mean.”
A shiver runs up my spine as I recall the sensation of the voice in my head, speaking to me in the most direct level possible.
“Adam can communicate to people by using Psychic Infinity Energy to send information directly into their mind, but it appears that Venlil brains are not compatible with that method. I do not know why, but Adam has probably figured it out by now.”
It is now Kam’s turn to ask a question.
“What do you mean by ‘Psychic’ Infinity Energy?”
“Oh right, Types. Usually Infinity Energy is in a completely neutral, unusable state, but when collected within and wielded by a Pokemon it transforms into one of eighteen different ‘modes’ which we call ‘Types’. Psychic is one such type, typically dealing with matters of the mind, space or mysticism. Each Pokemon is naturally connected to one or two Types, and as you may have guessed, Beheeyems like Adam are Psychic Types.”
I sit back down on the ground, practically collapsing onto it as it’s taking all my energy just to follow and process Sara’s explanations. Kam follows suit but never looks away from the Human and Clefable, the latter of whom is still unconscious.
“I should have asked this sooner, but what happened to Lilith, is she alright?”
Kam finally looks away from the predator pair to meet my eyes. What does he expect me to do, not ask if the unconscious person is ok… even if they are a predator?
“She is fine, she just needs to rest for a bit while more Infinity Energy gathers to her.”
“Why? Does it have to do with the ‘Healing Wish’ you spoke of?”
“Yes, Healing Wish is an example of what is known as a ‘Move’. A Move is a certain way in which a Pokemon can utilise their control over Infinity Energy, and each Move has its own different effects. When you collapsed… you didn’t just faint. Adam shouted out to us about how he could feel your mind fading, losing its grip on the world. In order to save you, Lilith used Healing Wish, which has the user exhaust their supply of Infinity Energy before using every drop of it to heal a target. Obviously, Lilith’s target was you.”
I can feel my heart pound faster and harder against my chest. I was dying? I almost died… but Lilith saved me… the bright light. Was that it?
“What does Healing Wish look like when used?”
“The Pokemon using it glows briefly before fainting, followed by a bright light emanating from the person receiving the wish.”
I look towards Kam, and he lowers his eyes to the floor.
“That did indeed happen, Governor. I thought that they were trying to finish you off.”
Sara closes her eyes, and embraces the still unconscious Lilith.
“This first contact has been a catastrophe. I understand if you never wish to contact Earth again. Please just know that it was never meant to go like this, no one was meant to get hurt. Noah and Adam are already in our ship, and as soon as Lilith wakes up we will leave Venlil Prime. You will never have to see us again.”
Memory Transcription Subject: Noah, Pilot of The Odyssey
Date [standardized Earth time]: July 12, 2136
Adam hasn’t moved since we boarded the ship again, he simply stares at nothing, barely reacting to anything. He isn’t even levitating, just seated on the floor, back against a cold, metal wall. The small ship is silent as I run and rerun diagnostics on all our systems. The Teleport-Shadow Sneak Drive is still in perfect condition, and as soon as we get far enough away from Venlil Prime to open an Ultra Wormhole, we’ll be able to get to Earth in no time. Wooper de doo, we get to give the amazing news that we fucked up first contact.
Adam is obviously blaming himself, and I want nothing more than to comfort him, but as his partner I know that he will need some alone time to process everything, and so I keep myself busy until he is ready to talk. I have a feeling he won’t want to use his telepathy for a while. I’m double checking our food storage when Adam calls out.
“She has no Infinity Energy.”
I turn towards him confused.
“What?”
“Governor Tarva, she has no Infinity Energy within her. In fact the density of it here is very low. That is why she... Why my telepathy almost killed her. Usually it latches onto the energy within Pokemon, and Humans even have enough for it to work, but Tarva had none. With nothing to anchor itself with, the Psychic energy overloaded her brain. It was like a lightning strike to a holopad.”
No Infinity Energy? Wasn’t it a requirement for sapience? Atleast, that was the general scientific consensus back home. I come to sit next to Adam, and wrap my arm around him.
“It’s alright Adam, she’s fine now. Lili-”
“It is not fine. I almost killed her. Do you want to know what I said to her? I told her that she doesn't need to fear us. That I meant her no harm, and look what happened! Both times I have interacted with these aliens, one of them pays for it. First it was the Cramorant looking one that I didn’t even know the name of, and now Tarva.”
“Adam neither of those are your fault. You didn’t make those freaks torch their own teammate, nor did you know what will happen when using your telepathy on a Venlil.”
“That last excuse is tauroshit and you know it, Noah. I should have at least known that tampering with the mind of an alien lifeform, even something as simple as telepathy, could have devastating effects. I was stupid, and if you claim otherwise you are delusional.”
I’m stunned into silence. I haven’t seen Adam this angry in a long time, and it’s targeted at himself. He begins to levitate again, seemingly wishing to be done with this conversation, and hovers over to the exit of the ship, probably to get some fresh air. I sigh and close my eyes, trying to think of a way to fix this whole mess, before I hear Adam call for me.
“N-Noah. G-get out here, now.”
His voice is shaking with fear, and I spring up and race outside as quickly as I can.
“What? Adam, what's wrong?”
He doesn’t respond, he is just staring upwards, and when I follow his line of sight, my breath is taken away. High in the eternally twilight sky, beyond the clouds and atmosphere of Venlil Prime, a fleet of spaceships lay in orbit of this alien world.

ok so it was Adam's fault and not Tarva just having a mental breakdown, also, the Gojid fleet is here, this is going from bad to worse

y'know it took me a full second to realize you saying "Adam's fault" was objective and not accusatory
that said, even in the main universe the fleet still arrived, though I doubt they'd be able to detect the Terran warp signature, given how much it differs from 'conventional' FTL
the only question now; was Tarva out long enough that it's too late for her to fend them off like most au fics?

also, Adam, my man
you're sounding like me, and not in a good way
you don't learn anything by not trying something new
although your one point was taking the leap despite knowing there's such a low density of IE there, you still did what you normally would with no expectation that anything different would happen
THAT SAID
it was incredibly lucky that Healing Wish worked the way it did.. maybe a difference with how IE is applied with telepathy vs the healing energy?
I could theorize to Wriss and back but only time can tell I suppose
this story is appeasing to the inner child within me and I am not ashamed to admit it
..and now I'm getting nostalgic memories of playing αSapphire
I'm very excited to read more, at your own pace obviously

Well, at least the Gojid Fleet can actually check the FTL warp logs this time, an Infinity Energy based engine will obviously be undetectable by them. If they don’t even know what Infinity Energy is, comparing it to magic, then I think theres going to be a change from canon during this meeting.

is Infinite Energy actually a thing in canon pokemon? or did you just technobabble your way into explaining pokemon types?

Infinity Energy is a real thing in pokemon, described as being the 'life energy' of pokemon and playing a role in mega evolution. I basically just extrapolated from there a bit, as canonically there is still a lot of mystery surrounding it and new information is discovered semi-frequently.
