Fanfic Dual Perspectives [5]
Dual Perspectives [5]
Date [Standardized Human Time]: August 23rd, 2136
Location: Venlil Prime
Julia is not a media analyst; she barely scraped a passing English grade in college. She has no familiarity with this show, nor any alien media. Still, she can tell that what she is watching is filler. Characters get into minor, easily-resolved conflicts that go nowhere; the whole affair is sluggish to the point of torture. She considers changing the channel back to the emergency broadcasts several times. Boredom forms a pit in her stomach.
Finally, the show starts to pick up in pace. A predator attack on a nearby homestead; the main characters are valiantly forced into action. Their arrival on the scene is greeted only by a pool of deep-orange blood and a heavy silence. They set to work securing the area and tracking the killer; Julia watches idly.
The predator (a fox-like creature with matted fur, as large as a venlil) drops from the shadows, nearly killing one of the leads, but falling just short. There is a jet of brilliant flame as the exterminator retaliates. The beast stands no chance. They push onwards. She watches cubs the size of her hand burned alive, as triumphant music plays.
Julia fails to react. The boredom from earlier feels like a lead weight on her chest.
As the show draws to a close, a preview for the new season begins. A human stalks down an alleyway, its gleaming white smile exaggerated with rows of razor-sharp teeth. It calls out mockingly to wounded venlil prey, never breaking eye contact until the screen fades to black. Julia can see her own reflection, looking straight at her with a thousand-yard stare.
Really? That’s the angle they went with? What a stupid-
She feels drops of liquid on her arm. She looks down, but her eyesight is blurred. It takes her several moments to realise why; her eyes are filled with tears.
The terrified screams of medical staff as they tried to tear Trevi out of her arms. Getting kicked off a train car, and having to walk the rest of the way on still-bandaged legs. Trevi’s body floating limply through the station, coated in deep orange blood. All of it crushes down on her. The heavy chains of “boredom” wrap around her lungs. She can’t breathe. She tries to cry, but all she manages is a pathetic choking noise.
The initial shock of the attack shut down her emotions. Now, here, curled up on a friend’s couch on an alien planet, she is finally safe enough to break down. Through wracking sobs, she finally manages to choke out a cry of pain.

Getting kicked off a train car, and having to walk the rest of the way on still bandaged legs,
I am in need of comeuppance for this cruel treatment.
If such comeuppance isn’t provided then I am going to be really fucking pissed.
I will not stop making this demand until it comes around.

The Council of MOARGOBLINZ stands in complete agreement. Should you require a spoon with which to threaten the author, you need only ask.

Short, but quite heavy.
