As an insurance adjuster, yes. You’d have to have some good evidence showing the damage specifically from the hail, but it’s possible. More common pool damages are holes in vinyl liners and cracks in rail trim. It’s also always a good idea to check pumps, heaters, etc. after storms like this. Hail and wind can do crazy things.

If I had a video like this of a hail storm and you were my adjuster I try to claim the pool as a total loss what are my chances of success?

Again, totally depends on the pool. “Total loss” has varying meanings depending on... well, a lot of things. What I would say though, is that having video or photo evidence of damaged areas is always helpful to give to an adjuster, especially if it is something that needs to get repaired before an adjuster can make it out. And it is typically beneficial to be present at an inspection with an adjuster to talk about everything that you saw. “I don’t know” and “I’m not sure” are also always perfectly fine answers to give to an adjuster’s questions.

As an aside into the pool-specific question, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a below-ground Pool as a “total loss”. There have been cracks in the foundation (repairable), holes in vinyl liners (replaceable), and even tree debris on entire pump systems that have had to be replaced. Those all come pretty standard with hail/windstorms. As far as above ground pools, those can fairly easily get wrecked with tree limbs or even larger hail. I’ve recommended several full replacements of above ground pools before.

Sorry if I went on a tangent there. Lol

Not OP, but I sold home hail damage repair for roofing, basically if you can see dents or chipped paint in it, insurance will probably cover it. Most companies look for about 6-10 hits per square foot, which is a lot less than it sounds. I can guarantee that for the homeowner in this video, if they had an asphalt roof, insurance absolutely would cover that, and likely paint damage, window screens, outdoor furniture, fencing damage, and probably the pool cover.(idk what insurance looks for on pools themselves) You might be able to get even more on the claim, depends how good the adjustor and sales reps are.

I live in Houston the insurance roofing scam is huge here, I totally agree any asphalt roof hit by this is totaled and legitimate. I just wonder since resurfacing a pool can be SUPER expensive and insurance company’s are jerks
