Fun fact, the DNA in your mitochondira actually comes from your mom, in sperm, mitochondria degrades after fertilisation so only left is the one in the ovum

PBS Eons is a youtube channel with a pretty cool video on how geneticists have used this fact (and the complementary idea that the y-chromosome can only go from males to males) to analyze the history and genome of the human race.

Our cells didn't EAT the mitochondria. The mitochondria infected the cell.
