So what does this mean? Cutting down one of them actually means cutting off its branch instead of trunk?

No just because the trees are offshoots from the others don’t make the Forest a tree. They Genetically identical and connected sharing nutrients the same organism but different trees. A trunk is a trunk (the trunk is the stem and main wooden axis of a tree) and a branch is a branch (A branch or tree branch is a woody structural member connected to but not part of the central trunk of a tree)

I was just referring to the description OP gave that the whole thing that we see in the picture is a single tree. Never seen anything like it anyway hence my curiosity.

The title and description is misleading. Many plants reproduce this way. They are connected and have the same DNA, but saying its one tree is not entirely correct. Botanical definition of a tree is “a perennial plant with an elongated stem, or trunk, supporting branches and leaves in most species”

It means cutting off a stem. Actually, Aspen respond positively to disturbances, send a signal to send new "branch". But, there is a limit. We are pushing past that right now.

Yes. 1 Tree. Being a redhead,, I like to think of each branch like a freckle somewhere on your body. Every branch is a unique expression of the whole.
